FYI: when using canned beans it is recommended to rinse them first, cuts down on sodium (bah) but also the complex sugars that our intestines can't take and produce the notorious gas cloud effect. (I suppose it takes away from the consistency of the soup, but you could toss in some thickener like corn starch or flour to make up for it.)
