Bloody bad luck is all I can think, Loani!!! Some PNG Bad Fairy must have spat in my cradle at birth, but my father denies all knowledge! Many thanks for sprinkling some Good Fairy magic on me.xxxxx

Reclaiming the turf, Sue. Getting the conversations going. Thank you for sharing my journey.

Thank you for this loving support Lisa. I knew that you would understand why I decided to write so intimately and publicly. What was the name of that seventies book by a womens liberation collective? ' Our Bodies, Our Selves'.

Okay. I'm confessing. The 'friend' with grade one spreading-but-contained-uterine cancer is actually me/myself and I. I don't know why I was trying to protect your delicate sensibilities. You're an adult. You also probably have a mother/sister/cousin/aunt/friend who might benefit from my Cautionary Tale. I've no medical training whatsoever. You need... Continue reading

This used to be my playground. It was the smell of the bush, that aromatic gum tree and wet bush smell, that hit me with the force of memory. It is the unmistakeable smell of Oatley Park on the George's River. It is probably the unmistakeable smell of many Australian... Continue reading

Badly designed lounge rooms and badly designed lounge furniture can be very real relationship deal breakers! And I speak not only of humans. British Philosopher Alain de Botton writes comprehensively about the architecture of happiness, and I am a total convert to his analyses of how the spaces we inhabit... Continue reading

Very good uggestion Kerrie. I shall be sure to pass it on. Thank you.

I don't really want to get all sexist here, but this topic has me intrigued. My friend has a new gynaecologist and that oncologist is a woman, the first 'woman' specialist she has ever encountered, and already she can see 'la difference'. It is stark and startling. The good doctor... Continue reading

A sense of place takes a while to acquire. Before, winter meant small fluffy dogs coming in from the cold and smelling of wood smoke. In this new locale I am learning to recognise new patterns: the boogie boards stacked in a neat row behind the pink and blue bicycles... Continue reading

My first coastal Magpie. It seemed like an omen after these many long, fraught months. A beach loving, Ti-tree perching Magpie telling me that the Grand Sea Change had finally been achieved and that I had morphed into a coastie. Continue reading

When it all boils down to it, life is really all about finding the next feed. In our new beach-side setting meal times are all over the place. Today - Thursday, in fact, meals are sparse and few because we are living with Michael Mosely's Fast Diet. Today is a... Continue reading

Such a romantic image this concept of the 'beach hut' is. Who knew that images of beach huts and bunting were so popular, but suddenly I am seeing them everywhere. Of course I bought it! It's now mine, all mine! I bought it from The Berry Tea Shop. Try their... Continue reading

This is one of a pair of Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos feeding in our garden one morning this week. We felt blessed, even if I was too twitterpated to get the better camera, or to fiddle with focus etc. I have discovered that I adore the view from within my new... Continue reading

This is actually near the head of the Shoalhaven River, but I am sure you get my drift. We bought fish and chips last week and sat by the river gazing out at the seagulls and the boats, and simply enjoyed our new style of office and its lack of... Continue reading

The BijouxCeramicButton extravaganza is back on deck after a very long hiatus. We live within a few hundred metres of the beach now so coastal images are now floating my boat, especially since my friend Robyn made me a small lap quilt featuring beach huts as a motif then bought... Continue reading

In his book on travelling, the philosopher Alain de Botton references an artist who maintains that anyone can learn to draw in order to record travel impressions. Our Big Sea Change has opened up a whole new world of impressions. Today we took the MouseWolves on a picnic to Lake... Continue reading

Beach forays being added to the list as I type, Bernie. Beach limping more like it. In the midst of renovating where you haemorrhage money and you keep losing that inner sight of the final product it can sometimes get a bit too exhausting. We had such a comfortable home! If only we could have removed that to here! I will endeavour to re-channel that strength.

My long bloggy silence may have led you to believe that I had dissolved silently away. Instead, I moved house and turned 60, amongst other traumatic events. Have I emerged stronger? Who could tell? At least there is still the solace of cake in an upturned world. This is my... Continue reading

I was dragged emotionally kicking and screaming to the Central Tablelands 21 years ago. I felt I had no choice. I loved my small family. My father cursed Ian Armstrong, the State Government Minister who forced the disrelocation on thousands of people. And as seems common behaviour by governments run... Continue reading

Here is the Vet, very high up a ladder leaning against the second storey of our new nest and looking for a starling's nest in the old guttering. No Magpie's Nest there. Just more work and expense for all concerned. We are at the stage of getting three quotes for... Continue reading

The ocean sounds so wonderfully loud at night. Getting used to a new soundscape is intriguing, novel and a little bit discombobulating all at the same time. Our Great Southern Migration Sea Change is still going full steam ahead, but we will be very glad to find 'normal' again, or... Continue reading

Picture us, me with my Gin and Tonic, and Him with his schooner of beer, and the MouseWolves refusing to take a proffered crisp, as we all gaze out at the head of the river where it used to push through to the sea. Renovating the beach house has us... Continue reading

Thank you Loani. Big changes. Big emotions. Thank goodness for online friendships that survive any number of geographical relocations! xx

I happily put this single bed of our daughter's up for gifting to Facebook friends. The Vet could not let me do this without alerting said daughter to the potential travesty. She thought his sensitivity was endearing, as did I. Was I rashly giving away memories? Was I trashing what... Continue reading
