Cool project, if you can't get this to work, take 2 plastic (clear) empty soda bottles, fill one half up, tape the other one with some ducktape on the half filled one (only cover the top of the bottle, otherwise you miss a lot of tornado but make sure the tape is secure, you don't want to get soaking wet) Done!
Now turn it upside down and while you put it down, give it a good swirl... Enjoy watching the tornado/wirlpool ^_^
