Look at the career numbers. Cliff Lees dont even compare. Lee had one great year (the year before last), a good year last year and a good second half this year. He had a streak of 5 or 6 very shaky games for the Phils, although he was outstanding in the playoffs. But Halladays success goes back much deeper.

The deal isn't done yet, but according to several reports, it's close. The Phillies would be getting Roy Halladay (and would be sending Cliff Lee and likely prospects to the Mariners.). It's hard to believe it's actually going to happen. It will be the first true ace in Philly since Curt Schillin...
So, are you a headline writer??!!
Thats a good one!
Phillies make Rule 5 selections
The Phillies made a selection in the major league portion and one in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 Draft. The club took RHP Kenneth Herndon in the major league portion. Hernon, 24, was taken 17th overall from the Angels. He spent last season in Double-A, going 5-6 with 11 saves and a 3....
I do think they should re-sign him. HOWEVER, they should not overspend. Hes very good, but hes not a star. On a lot of staffs, he would be the second or third best pitcher.
We all saw he can have breakdowns and significant stretches where he is only average. Therefore, if he has an excellent stretch, that makes him only good to very good throughout the couse of a season. He had one excellent year when he won the Cy Young. Its not like hes Roy Halliday has been recently or John Smoltz was or Greg Maddux was or Pedro used to be or Clemens, etc. Its easy to get caught up and think hes of that magnitude, but he isnt.
Does that answer your question?
So different than last year
Nothing about this moment feels like a season ago. Last Fall, everyone in the Phillies' clubhouse was ecstatic. A parade was being planned. And sports writers and their editors were mapping out special sections. But tonight, writers waited in a somber Phillies clubhouse as players shared hugs an...
Thats funny. I actuall think that every time I drive through there. Its nuts!

Thanks again!

Im not defending the Yankees, but just so you know, Victorino said several times that Burnett told him it wasnt intentional....that he apologized to him and asked Chocch how he wasn. I wrote about it in this blog.
Phillies starting lineup for Game 6 at Yankee Stadium
Here is tonight's Phillies lineup: 1. Rollins 2. Victorino 3. Utley 4. Howard 5. Werth 6. Ibanez (DH) 7. Feliz 8. Francisco 9. Ruiz
I only those because I wrote that blog BEFORE the Phillies won...wrote that blog during the game. Ill see what I can come up with!!
When others have been in this position.....
According to ESPN, which has the most incredible resorces to research stuff (they have guys who do that and do that only), of the 23 teams who have trailed 3-1 in the World Series with Game 5 at home and Games 6-7 on the road, are 3-20 all time. The 1979 Pirates, the 1968 Tigers and the 1958 Yan...
Hi Joe,
Thanks for the kind words. They are much appreciated. Wish I could have been there for that exchange. Sure it was interesting. Id be very surprised if the Phillies re-signed Myers. I think theyve had it with him, but I could be wrong.
A Game 7 would be crazy from a pitching standpoint. How could he put Cole out there? And is it fair to throw Happ into the fire? That guy has been thrown around so much this year that I cant help feel bad for him.
Well, enjoy tomorrows game.
Take care and thanks again!
WHAT ELSE HAPPENED IN GAME 5 ON MONDAY
Shane Victorino wants everyone to know he’s OK. He doesn’t expect the swelling or discomfort in his right index finger, stemming from getting hit by an A.J. Burnett pitch in the first inning, to linger. “I wanted to know how my finger was,” Victorino said of why he got X-Rays in the second innin...
Well, thats fabulous. Thank you so much. In a day and age when people are so quick to criticize, a kind word means more than you know!
Thanks again and enjoy the rest of the postseason!

Because Im only one person and cant be everywhere at every moment. I am writing 3-4 stories a day and that conversation must have taken place when I was not in the clubhouse.
And very early this morning, I was asleep. Didnt get home from the game until 3:15 a.m. Despite the fact that I have worked 36 days in a row, I cant be up 24/7. I do actually have to sleep, shower and eat.

Youre getting the games confused. The game in question is tomorrow, not today.
I don't agree on decision with Lee
I certainly don't know how Charlie Manuel votes, but I do know he took the very conservative route with ace pitcher Cliff Lee. And it's not one I agree with. Listen, I know I'm not the manager, and I haven't been in baseball nearly as long as he has, but I'm still entitled to an opinion, and I'm...
Thanks Jack! That's great to hear, especially in a day-and-age when so many people are so bitter.
Wouldn't be here if it weren't for my dad! He taught me everything I know, although I'm sure at times when I was five and asking ridiculous questions, he wanted to cringe. But he was always patient, and for that, I thank him.
Again, I really appreciate your kind words. Enjoy the series.

Some pre-Game talk in the Bronx
Much like he’s done with the rotation, manager Charlie Manuel isn’t giving anything away when it comes to his lineup. With the right-handed A.J. Burnett starting Game 2 tomorrow, Manuel will almost definitely use one of his lefties (Matt Stairs or Greg Dobbs) to DH. But he wouldn’t say who. “I d...
Ya know, my biggest hesitation of leaving him out of the rotation was I didn't know where to put him either. That, coupled with Charlie's loyalty and how much money Cole is making, makes me think there's no chance of Charlie not putting him in there.
Having said that, I still don't think he belongs in the rotation at this point. I'm sorry if that hurts his ego, but that's the way things go sometimes. And if we don't make the best use of his money, sobeit. It's late in the season.
Still waiting
With nasty weather in tonight's forecast for the Bronx, it's hard to believe they're going to get this game in. If that's the case, it gives the Angels a chance to re-align their pitching. Lackey would likely get the ball in Game 6 on Sunday, making things even tougher on the Yankees. The Philli...
I haven't seen or heard anything, but I'll definitely keeps my eyes and ears open at the workout tomorrow!
Thanks!
Another celebration at home
Thankfully, I'm not going to have to jump on a 6 a.m. flight to L.A. I literally would have been staying up all night. Here I am at 2 a.m. still at the Park. I won't get home before 3:30 by the time I'm done writing this, pack up, walk far to my car and drive to the LV. I'd walk in the door, pac...
That was a special moment for me! Glad you didn't mind reading about it.
Kobe totally turned on us didn't he? Well, that's OK. We don't need a guy he cheats on his wife and lies about it cheering for Philadelphia. We need solid, honest people!

Well....that's different. That's why I said I saw it on Twitter so people wouldn't take it as definitely true!
Thanks a bunch!

Seriously..."secret weapon"
Since we're in an open-air pressbox, we can't hear the TBS broadcast. But based on what I'm reading on Twitter, it seems as though Chip Caray called Ryan Howard the Phillies' "secret weapon." That is nuts. He has a Rookie of the Year and MVP award. He was third in the league in HRs and tied for ...
Glad I gave you guys some stuff to enjoy. I often hesitate to get personal, but maybe I'll start doing it a little more.
Will be blogging later from LA!
Thanks!
What an ending!
As we all were sitting in the press box spouting off a few four letter words because we had to rewrite our stories in a matter of minutes as deadline approached, another reporter looked at me and said, "This is fun." And you know what? He's right. It is, even for us. You don't have to be a Phill...
Well...I just threw a load of wash in, so we'll see. Good news is I didn't see any stains on them this morning!
Hope I can get a couple cool things!

'm sure my dad could comment on that! He's 65, a huge Phillies fan and has a severe heart condition (defibrillator and all). He even managed to make it till the ninth inning of Monday's game before he fell asleep.
I'll be blogging for sure before the night is over. I'm in LA...first time here. Looking forward it!

Hey, we all do it!! No biggee!!
Some ramblings
***Gotta love the 2:37 start times on Wednesday and Thursday for deadline purposes, but it's terrible for fans. Unless you take the day off work, most people won't even see a single pitch. Seems like the Phillies keep getting stuck with awful start times. How can MLB and the television networks ...
Charlie said yesterday he's now considering going with 11 pitches. So one of your guys has to come out...and Dobbs will definitely be in there.
Charlie admitted putting this postseason roster is the toughest of the last three he's done!!

Not trying to be rude here at all...but it's wishful thinking that they won't take Lidge. He's under too big of a contract for them not to take him. And I think Eyre would go over Escalona, who has barely pitched and has little big league experience. I have a tough time believing they'd leave Pedro out. I think he'll be the fourth starter and Happ will go to the bullpen...could be wrong though.
Wednesday's notebook
With the playoffs looming, there is lots for the Phillies coaching staff to think about. Not only do they have to compose their 25-man postseason roster, but they have to decide if resting some key players is more important than chasing the best record in the NL and in turn, getting home field a...
No...because the Rockies are 2 1/2 up on the Braves for the Wild Card.
A quick breakdown....
In case you're a little confused by the clinching possibilities (magic number of 3), I'll break it down for you. The earliest the Phillies can clinch is Tuesday. There are two scenarios that could make that happen. Option one: the Phillies have to win Monday and Tuesday and the Braves have to lo...
