Oh yeah. That Iomega thingy doesn't even require stereo magnifying glasses to see the best parts. Speaking of TV, how good is Entourage? Now that the Olys are over I'm back to my MadMen addiction - It's like a mashup of Twin Peaks and The Office.

Hey now! Thanks for the vine Zilla-man. A video of the commute - sort of like an inverted or reversed steering wheel cam? It would probably be better than badly lit jowls and hat hair. MGBrit, I don't see myself doing much to adjust anything having anything to do with capacitance, unless it involves some sort of incapacitance (you know, bad lighting, wind noise, slurred speech or something else that's difficult to repair in the mix.)

Zilla-man, It would probably be a poor fit right now, as there is still lots of integration work to do with EqualLogic and Dell. As for spending on acquisitions .. the winner and grand champion in that category has to be EMC. Can you possibly deny it?

This is an opportunity for a great oops moment. We really really really meant to shoot down our decrepit old nuclear fuel leaking sat, but instead we hit this gleaming new Chinese public access tv sat instead. We will be refunding cable subscribers in China to make up for the errant warhead which went off path shortly after striking a piece of orbiting flotsam on its approach to our decommissioned plutonium pile.

Hey Zilla-man - congrats on the new job and I hope it works out well for you. Please keep writing here as much as you can. The new job will suck for all of us if you have to curtail this stuff. I like Foskett's approach because its like skiing (and of course life should be determined by falling analogies) - you need to look far enough ahead in order to not let the minor bumps underfoot throw you off balance. Of course another approach is to just do everything more or less at full tilt and let the wake tell you where you've been if you ever take the time to turn around. BTW, I saw the Foo Fighters last weekend in Oakland. Wow is all I have to say. They'll be in Europe in June. London is sold out already, so I recommend you coordinate your new job travels with their tour dates in Oslo or something.

The used equipment market is fairly large and there is always interesting stuff in there. Its no big surprise to see EMC equipment sold in the used market, just as its no surprise to see used BMWs and Fibre Channel switches too. There are lots of used books for sale too if you go looking for them. Amazon does a pretty goof job of referencing used books, even used storage books by leading authors such as Marc Farley and Tom Clark.

Someday, I'd like to sit down and throw back a couple with you and discuss all this stuff. Of course, I'd be making it up because I heard about it almost the same way you did. Enjoy Berlin or wherever you are.

You bring up some whacked history with Convergenet. I was a product manager there for a few months. Argued on a daily basis with engineering management about software features. I remember the meeting very clearly when item #1 (out of about 40) on the list of SW requirements was supporting all FC topologies: loop, fabric and pt to pt. In the subheading under fabric was the line item to support fabric login. The guy doing the SW architecture asks: "what's fabric login?". It went seriously downhill from there for me - especially when he ended the stalemate with a "we'll let you know". A couple months later I left when, after expressing grave concerns to the main VC there about the viability of the machine, he asked me "what are you doing here?" About 6 months later the sale went through. That VC was the equivalent of a warthog when it came to getting his money out of an investment. There was no way the ConvergeNet thing was ever going to work although lots of people involved were soaked in the kool aid. EqualLogic is a totally different situation, a totally different company. I think Dell is different too this time. For starters they've been selling boatloads of EMC products already and I don't think that's going to stop anytime soon despite what the EqualLogic acquisition would seem to imply. Now if we can just keep Netapp out of the deal.......

Zilla-man, I know you have caviar taste when it comes to video, but does a small screen HD video player make sense? An airplane is such a lousy environment. Does anybody make a small LCD screen that can do HD justice?

Related to the vlog, I think EMC's acquisitions have been very smart. There are certainly elements of risk involved with big corporate acquisitions, but the markets for security and server virtualization are still in the early stages and EMC has taken cornerstone positions in both.

So Snig, I know its a little weird asking you this on Zilla-man's blog, but this is where the thread is: Will you take ad money from EqualLogic too? Also, the name "flare" probably was not the best choice - kind of like the Chevy No va in latin america.

Hey Zilla-man, When I read your exchange with Robin Harris yesterday and couldn't access your new site to cross-check and verify your side of the story, I thought that maybe you had become a howling, cave dweller. So, I found your site this morning and now assume that you have an address and shop for groceries more or less like the rest of us. I recommend adding a last post to your vox site, pointing readers to your new one. BTW, I sympathize with your blog struggles as I've had lots of problems with the blogging software I've been using. I'm looking at switching over to Movable Type but like what I see from Wordpress. Also, I couldn't see the vlog you posted. How big is the file? Maybe I just got imaptient downloading the pig in the pipe and bailed too soon.
