People with that kind of disability are not generally good at the activities suggested. What is it the author want exactly: for them to try out and be turned down or for everyone on a team to work around that person's disability? They are not "sprinkled" through school at all, in fact, they generally have their own class-for the same reason. I feel bad if their feelings were hurt, and they probably should have done it a little different. I don't think a big deal should be made of this.
