Another Phillie hit the disabled list today, as the club placed Vance Worley on the 15-day. CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury reported Worley's elbow soreness yesterday, and the team sent out the following release this morning: Right-hander Vance Worley has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 12, with right elbow inflammation, Senior Vice President and General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today. To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, left-hander Joe Savery has been recalled from triple-A... Continue reading

Placido Polanco’s two-run double in last night’s eighth gave the Phillies a 6-4 lead and, hopefully, demonstrated some personal progress at the plate. Since hitting the DL in July last year, Polanco has just seven extra-base hits in 238 plate appearances. That means a slugging percentage of .311 over the same span. Wilson Valdez slugged .341 last season, so ... needless to say, Polanco hasn’t been in the habit of driving the baseball since the back problems flared up just... Continue reading

With 19 games in the books, it's time to take a look at the most valuable Phillies of the early going. We begin with a few of the usual suspects: 1. Cole Hamels - Of the Phils' nine wins, Hamels is responsible for three. He has been incredibly sharp over his first 26 1-3 innings, allowing 24 hits and posting an NL-leading K/BB ratio of 10/1 (30/3). With Cliff Lee's current circumstance in mind, Hamels' performance going forward will only... Continue reading

This morning, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com tweeted that the Phils were close to a one-year, $1 million contract with Dontrelle Willis. The 29-year-old lefty is coming off a 1-6 season with Reds in which he posted a 5.00 ERA and a 1.520 WHIP in 75 2-3 innings. If it's any consolation, he went 5-2 with a 2.63 ERA during his time at Triple-A Louisville last season. If nothing else, Willis will add to the Phils' already stellar stable of hitting... The USA played David to Cuba’s Goliath in the Pan Am Games on Monday, knocking off the 10-time defending champs by a score of 12-10. The victory, in which Phils farmhand Tuffy Gosewisch played a role, sends the Stars and Stripes to the tournament’s title game tonight. Gosewisch, who started behind the plate for the US team, smoked a two-run single in the second inning to give the United States a 3-0 lead. He would come around to score later... Continue reading
