Editor's note: For our last week at Style Lush, I've asked the writers to share both a favorite post by another writer, from over the last three years, and a favorite post of their own. You'll see these posts linked to at the top of their new post for the week. Enjoy a stroll down Lush memory lane! By Megan I'm horribly sorry to be saying goodbye to Style Lush. It's been a daily source of inspiration for me, and choosing favorites is hard to do. I really loved Rebecca's post Style Memories From My Mom. From my own archives,... Continue reading

by Megan I promise that this will be the last time that I speak of accessories for our easel. One side of our easel has a white board, and if you have any experience with white board markers, you know that they leave much to be desired. They're messy, they leave an odd marker dust behind when they've been erased, and they're far from washable. So, when I saw Crayola Washable Whiteboard markers at Target, I knew that we needed to replace the markers we had on hand. In their favor, they do seem to wash from clothes and hands... by Megan My parents bought my daughter an easel for Christmas. It was easily the biggest hit of all the gifts given or received this year, and she happily drew on the chalkboard all evening. My mom added this easel accessory set from Melissa and Doug, and I would highly recommend it. It included everything that we needed for our easel, including a roll of paper, paint, brushes, chalk, an eraser, a white board marker, and paint cups, which are my favorite part of the set. In fact, I would recommend purchasing the paint cups on their own, and you... Continue reading

by Megan Every so often I hear people talk about Shade clothing as a great place to buy basics, but I've never bought anything there myself. I tend to shy away from online only stores, since I don't at least have a baseline for the sizing and quality, but Shade offers free shipping and returns, so I really don't have much to lose. I've spent a little time browsing the website, and I'm not blown away by the cuteness, but I have put one thing into my cart, because heaven knows I need another striped shirt in my life. Stripe... by Megan I come from a long line of loungewear ladies. In fact, my mother is so notorious for her matching sweat suits that they're known simply as "Kathys" in our house. Recently I stepped into the Gap Body side of the store, where I've never really paid any attention. I have been making a mistake. In the winter I want to come home and put on my snuggly, comfortable clothes. I don't know what that says about my personal sense of style, but pants with buttons have no place in my life at home. I've recently begun to embrace... Continue reading

by Megan Every once in a while I find a hole in my wardrobe. There's one piece that feels missing. When I'm getting dressed in the morning, I keep thinking about how that one item would be so useful for so many outfits. Recently that was a pair of gold flats and when I found a pair on sale at Old Navy for $9, it seemed serendipitous. I have worn those shoes to death and it was because I knew that I had many uses for them before buying them. Currently the hole in my wardrobe is in the shape... Continue reading

by Megan We've had a holiday party every year since we got married, except for the years where my kids were tiny infants, and this year is no different. However, this year things we're hosting our party off site so we can view a boat parade. I'm excited about the change and our access to this waterfront house this year. At our party we do a gift exchange, which is nothing new, but is usually a fun part of the party. It's a nice way for us to get everyone in the same space, even people who don't know each... by Megan Most days I spend plenty of time at home or in my car, meaning that I'm never far from my phone charger. But I've noticed when I travel that I can easily drain the battery on my phone before the day is through. Maybe the issue is more about my excessive iPhone usage than about the phone's battery, but no matter! There's a solution for that. Enter the Uncommon Goods portable iPhone Charger. Simply charge it before you leave and plug it into your iPhone (or iPad or iPod) for an additional three hours of use time when... Continue reading

by Megan Every year my mother-in-law knits slippers for everyone in the family, and every year they're one of my most coveted gifts. They're comfortable, and warm, and kind of ridiculous looking, and I love them. People always want their own pair, but my mother-in-law can only knit so fast. So, imagine my surprise when I found these chrochet slippers on Etsy. Buttercream Crochet Slippers $19 I think this buttercream color is perfect for winter, but she has several other fun colors. She even has these loafer-like slippers, which are available in a his and hers matching set. Lest you... Continue reading

By Megan In yet another winning collaboration with Target, you can now find LaMer watches for a fraction of the price. The watches retail for over $100 at places like Nordstrom or Saks Fifth Avenue, but can now be found in a variety of styles at Target for under $50. I can think of a few women on my Christmas list who would love to receive these. My personal favorite is the La Mer Wrap Watch in gold, which is available both online and in stores for $39.99. I also love the brown and I kind of want to buy... Continue reading

By Megan When my last pair of yoga pants from Old Navy got horribly stretched out and faded, I didn't replace them. I'm trying to avoid yoga pants as an outfit, unless I'm actually working out. Except, that in my current life, I spend a lot of time at home, and at home I like to be comfortable. As it stands now, once we're in for the day, I usually swap my jeans for pajama pants. This is fine, because my kids don't generally care what I look like, but I would like to be able to go for a... Continue reading

by Megan I'm all about embracing the trends that make sense for me. Leopard print shoes? Fine. Skinny jeans? Okay. Stripes? I'm all over that. But I can't seem to get behind patterned jeans and I'm seeing them everywhere. They scream 1991 to me, and I just don't think they're particularly cute. However, this is from the girl who refused to believe that skinny jeans were a trend to watch, and now all of my other jeans seem so big and bulky, so I'm certainly no authority. Charlotte Russe Hot Kiss Ditsy Floral Skinny Jean I'm almost certain I had... Continue reading

by Megan I need to confess something here: I don't particularly enjoy carving pumpkins. It's messy, sticky and smelly, and falls firmly into the camp of things I do in order to create fun memories for my children. However, since I've resigned myself to carving pumpkins every year, so help me, I might as well have a little fun with the process. I've rocked the triangle eyes and nose for years, I think it's time that we change things up a bit. I went on the hunt for things that my kids would love and came across a ton of... Continue reading

By Megan I'm the team mom for my son's soccer team this season, and a friend clued me in to a useful tool: Shutterfly Share Sites. You simply create your free site for your team, and from there you have a ton of options. You can upload your team's game schedule, roster and snack schedule, and even set the site to send reminders as needed. There's a place for journal entries and a message board for members. Once people have been invited to join the site, they can upload their own photos for the group, which all of the members... Continue reading

By Megan Last week we surprised the kids with an overnight trip to the Disneyland Hotel. As annual passholders, we're frequent visitors to Disneyland, but it was fun to treat this as a mini-vacation, rather than just something to do after school. I'm typically thoroughly impressed with Disney, and this was no exception. Some of the high points: Check In When we arrived Goofy was in the lobby to greet us, which immediately set the tone. The seating in the lobby is Disney themed, and there are Disney movies playing to keep the kids busy while you wait to check... Continue reading

by Megan Yesterday, fueled by a truckload of parental guilt for forgetting to send money with my son on his assigned book fair day, I spent far more than I planned to in the one hour this week designated for parents to shop the book fair. I kept mentally making excuses, like "One can never have too many books," and "You're fueling their love of reading!" All of these things are true, of course, and it's not like I was overspending on cupcakes (although I've been known to do that, too,) so I'm going to let myself off the hook.... Continue reading

by Megan Immediately on the heels of the iPhone 5 announcement, my inbox was flooded with new cases for sale. I won't be upgrading to the new phone, and I have no business spending $40 on a pretty new phone case. None of that stops me from wanting one. After all, I do spend an awful lot of time with my phone, why shouldn't I care what it looks like? I liked reading this, because it kept me engaged, but I didn't really love the book. I just hated Amy so much, and was so unhappy at the end. It just seems so UNFAIR that there's no way to prove what she's done. Wouldn't Desi's mother have some way of proving that Amy wasn't there all that time? And when there's a murder, even in self-defense, isn't there an autopsy? Nick and Amy are just stuck together? Forever?

by Megan I'm already giddy thinking about October, and not only because it might stop being hot for a few minutes. No, come October I get three straight months of holiday decor. I also get three straight months of baking festive treats in the name of holiday spirit, but that's another subject entirely. The one home decor position that my husband and I share is that new holiday decor items are never frivolous. So, with that in mind, I'm hoping to add to our collection this year. I love these mercury glass pumpkins from Pottery Barn. Costco had a similar... Continue reading

We are kindred TV spirits. I love Awkward, and have watched The Secret Life since its very first season. Mostly shame free.

by Megan Now that my oldest child is in kindergarten, and my daughter has discovered the joys of coloring all day every day, I'm looking for some ways to display all of their masterpieces. They have a ton of wall space in their rooms and I would like to take advantage of some of that space. My number one choice are these Art Clip Racks from Pottery Barn Kids. The only thing I don't like is the $39 price tage for something that I could, if I were so inclined, probably make on my own. I also love the idea... Continue reading

by Megan I'm always happy when I see upcoming trends that will fit right into my current wardrobe. Flat, casual shoes that I can wear with jeans? I am so on board. Patterned jeans? I'm sorry, I just can't take you seriously. by Megan The comments on my dress post last week confirmed my original plan to go with green accessories with my dress. I immediately fell in love with the Tessellate necklace in green from J. Crew. Unfortunately, it's a bit beyond my budget. There are some pretty convincing knock offs on Ebay for a fraction of the price, but I'm not sure how I feel about that practice yet. I should probably get over that, since many of my Target finds are simply copies of other pricier brands. For earrings I really want the Kendra Scott Elle in green. I... Continue reading

By Megan Last week I received an email from Old Navy about their new styles, and in that email there was a picture of an absolutely adorable dress. I clicked through to the website and the dress was nowhere to be found. A few days later I checked again, and found the dress only avialble for pre-order. Yesterday, I was in Old Navy and there was my dress. I tried it on, and I loved it. I tweeted a picture and my Twitter friends confirmed that it was actually cute and not a figment of my dressing room imagination. I... Continue reading
