a consolation for the lingering winter weather is that i've been able to wear my cozy new hat for the past week... i used this easy pattern with this super-soft yarn. it ended up being a great fit with just a little slouch. i really like how the seed stitch... Continue reading

i finished a knitting project and there's still snow on the ground! (remember the photo in this post of when i had just begun). this cable pattern was fun and easy to knit with a super-soft wool/nylon blend that's been rolling around here for a while. i really like the... Continue reading

thanks! i'm glad you like the hot dog guy and noticed the "modesty branch", it made me laugh, too. :-)

oh, thanks! i'm thinking of trying this for all the garments i make for myself... we'll see if i can stick to it. :-)
actually, i didn't use a template to press the pocket, but that's definitely a good way to do it. before pressing the edges under, i stitched just inside the seam allowance, so i could use the stitching line as a folding guide... this thick and stretchy fabric was a little tricky to press, plus its somewhat synthetic, so i couldn't have the iron very hot... anyway, lots of pinning and it came out pretty good. :-)

i'd been holding on to this thrifted knit fabric for a while, not knowing quite what to make with it. i finally decided that simple would be best... starting with a vintage kwik sew pattern (the one i used to make this top), i added a couple inches in length,... Continue reading

thanks so much, Allison! I actually have a few sewing machines, but i made this blouse using only my Viking Husqvarna Emerald 118... it's a great basic machine, i think. my serger is a Brother 1034D and i use a vintage Pfaff 130 for heavy duty sewing. whew! :-)

i'm so happy with how this new blouse turned out. i used the same vintage 1964 pattern as my sailboat top, but made the long sleeve version this time. i think this pretty fabric (thrifted) with it's dainty bows is a fun match for the boxy, boyish fit of this... Continue reading
