Ohmygosh, Kristy. :) Thanks so much for leaving such an awesome comment/your story! totally made my day. Im so glad you found where your heart is and are pursuing it now - sometimes its so hard to make the jump into something new, right? I feel ya. Im going into the last year of my design program and only in the last few months have I made portfolio-worthy things that I can be proud of. The thing is, were always in The Gap: I know in a few years these things will feel like beginner things, again, but you just have to do it - do the best you can do, put it out there, and know that youre going to grow and progress. :) Ive been listening for months to a the Sean Wes podcast - hes a letterer, but gives lots of great business-in-general advice: he has this theory that perfectionism can be stifling, so as a perfectionist you have to kind of just let go at 90% or what you would consider perfect and be cool with that, its really helpful for me to think that way, otherwise I get stuck on one thing forever! Thanks, again, for the kind words. Im moving this blog soon to a new address/home that will be more in line with where Im going/connected to a design portfolio - Im super-excited to take that leap finally. :) Best of luck with your studies!

I used to make a lot of mixed-media collage-like stuff. It was related to the scrapbooking thing. (collage made with vintage photos/ephemera/fabric/doilies/embroidery) A few years ago I was commissioned to make a few paper lines (which I one day might look back on, here, since it was kind of a... Oh! lol...I thought it was yours... :) I agree with you, though, cleaning the craft room and donating some old stuff was the best thing I ever did last year! Lass is more, right?

I was thinking about it, and then I stumbled randomly across this video: (on the gap in good taste versus good execution) (THE GAP by Ira Glass from frohlocke on Vimeo.) "But it's like there's a Gap. The first couple years that you're making stuff, what you're making isn't so... Continue reading

Don & Ryan Clark make up this awesome illustrative design studio (their story is really cool) - they have an extensive list of awesome clients like MTV, Dreamworks, and every record company you can imagine! I was in awe when my Motion Graphics teacher showed this in class last week: (HBO's True Detective - Main Title Sequence from Patrick Clair on Vimeo) So good. The song, the timing, the imagery. Aaah. Not to even mention how awesome this makes the show look (haven't seen it... Continue reading

I bought myself an ipad mini for my birthday - so inbetween homework and a bit of freelance working I've finally been able to explore apps and games and stuff. I'm currently nursing an addiction to Plants vs. Zombies, Badland, and a few Adventure Time games...he he. I'm finally on... Continue reading

Last week I stepped out of my clean-drawings-painstakingly box and experimented with a two-inch paint brush, some big paper, guache, and the first typography assignment of the year: Can you guess the song? I know, I know: technically lettering is not typography (scroll down to #9). Either way, I'm so... Continue reading
