Fayth - When I applied, I only had to do sketches. However, the term "swatch" is generally used in reference to fabric. They are most likely asking for you to cut a neat square of fabric (I'd go with a 2" x 2" size) that you think matches with your sketch.
For example, if you sketched an evening gown, you could cut a neat 2"x2" square of silk or organza and mount that next to your sketch.
