So during Spring term, we got a chance to tag along with other students for a trip to New York. It was not free but we ended up paying only 50 bucks for round trip so Parima and I decided to go. It was only a 3-day trip and the weather was freezing cold but we managed to see several places: Forever 21, Broadway, Met Museum, etc. Ok, let me start with this. This is Central Park. Yes, that beautiful green space that all the New Yorkers love so much. This is how it looks in Winter. You may not... Continue reading

Day 3 Monday Kaew was supposed to be at school in the morning so Meng and I took off by ourselves. Meng wanted to visit the hospital where King Bhumipol was born. St Auburns was what the place was called. It was not a far walk from Harvard Square. Again today was nice and sunny. Day 4 Tuesday Nothing special today. I went to the Prudential Center for some light shopping. We finished up our day with sushi! Lots of them! We did not exactly finish the day with sushi. You see, when we got home it was around 10... I had a dinner with the Indian clique tonight. It was great. I don't remember telling you guys that recently, I have been hanging out with the Indian gang of the LLM a lot. We found that we have a lot in common and they all have a great sense of humour. Continue reading

Once again for spring break I am in Boston to see Kaew. We made a giant mistake of not communication and we found out later in February that our spring break is not going to be in the same week. It was quite weird that I would be staying at her house while she is at school and we wouldn't be able to go to New York City and DC as planned. I knew that it will still be a lot of fun. Very likely, I would be exploring Boston with Meng who is flying from Chicago to see Kaew... Continue reading

New York This is what Ithaca was like when I left it. I arrived at New York early in the morning. I planned to do some sightseeings here before leaving for LA. My schedule was not set in stone. I had a lot of free day that I would figure what to do with them when I got to LA. I got to New York around 12. The city did not change except for the fact that it was about 20 degrees colder than the last time I was here 4 months ago. There were a lot of people during... Continue reading

I was done with most of my exam yesterday. I have one more on Monday but I've done most of the studying for it over the past month so I'm not worried. To celebrate a little victory, I went downstairs this morning to get a cup of coffee. I found... THIS! It is a Winter Festival down here in Ithaca Commons. Ice Sculpture everywhere! They must have done it over night last night because I didn't notice them on my way home yesterday evening. What a nice little surprise. It is pretty chilly now so I'm hoping this sculpture will... A daily find. I was browsing around the grocery store near my house and I realised that I was out of Knorr's bouillon for making soup. I ate a lot of soup so it is something essential to keep at home. Ok. Now. "Better than Bouillon" is a new kind of soup seasoning. Instead of the usual cube shape, this is in paste. The consistency is close to honey and it taste great! No preservative or MSG, therefore, it has to be kept in the fridge. I find it quite useful for making ไข่นึ่ง. Continue reading

Paolo Coelho said "when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it". This is like the power of thoughts kinda thing. Sounds like a bunch of crap, right? The old me would say yes but there were some incidents recently that make me question it. First, the television conspiracy. This baby landed right in front of my room, the night just before my birthday (which was, in Thailand, my birthday)! A great surprise since I have had this thought for a while that a television set would be a nice addition to my morning routine:... Continue reading

1. Healthy Breakfast Just like Day 1, Day 2 started with some healthy breakfast: omelette, sauteed plum tomatoes in dill sauce, and rocket salad. We woke up very late today because Kaew and I were talking until 4 in the morning last night. We finally woke up at 11:30 and figured it was too late to have a packed schedule today. Kaew suggested we went walking around Harvard and meet up with her friends for dinner around North End which is the "Little Italy" of Boston. 2. Harvard Kaew told me about this statue they have at Harvard University. It... Continue reading

Interestingly, me and the Thai crew, we were walking around the Commons last night. We did saw a couple of trucks with some loud-speakers and tents but we thought they were packing up. I figured it was another concert or another fair that I missed around here. However, I had a chat with the building custodian today. I ran into him in the elevator while I was going down to get my mail. He told me there was an Apple Harvest Festival going on at the Commons, in front of my building. Turned out this Apple Festival was the second... Continue reading

1. The Ride Boston was an interesting city. It was like New York in terms of archtecture but so much cleaner. It was a fall break and I took a ride with a girl from Archeology faculty. She was visiting her boyfriend in Boston. It was a harsh 7 hours ride which cost me 20 dollars. Looking out the window, the terrain is breath-taking but after 2 hours of the same view, I stopped paying attention. 2. The Town of Kobleskill, NY Ithaca was the smallest town I've ever been in. I thought that was bad. But then, we stopped... Continue reading

Who would have thought that they sell a henna kit at Cornell Store? Henna is a dry powder derived from a kind of tree. It is reddish brown in colour and can be used as hair-dye or, as what we're getting into here, body decoration. It is actually particulary popular in India, and Arabic countries. It can be used to make a fake tattoo, so to speak. -- This is quite interesting to me since tattoo is 'haram' in Islam. It is forbidden. But henna, which is almost like a temporary tattoo is allowed and encouraged. There must be some... Continue reading

After 2 months of being in Ithaca, I just realised that I have never posted a single picture of this downtown area where I am. So today, I'm taking you on a tour with me, a little peak of my daily life. Starting in the morning, this is the hallway of the building, leading to the dining area. Some mornings, if the weather is nice, merchants will gather around the downtown area and sell stuff to the townies. ... Some sell food (hotdogs, kebab, burgers, etc). ... Some sell fresh produce. ... Some perform magic! The black guy in suit... Continue reading
