Andy needs to leave his mom at home at get a real coach. It's unhealthy for a grown man to have his mom so intimately involved in his life. Just look at the way he acts on the court-- like a spoiled kid who'll never grow up.
The Hangover, Part III?
From the buzzed hair, to the bland white clothes, to the way he kept his head down like a man on the lam, there seemed to be something missing about Andy Murray as he walked through his match in Montreal yesterday. He looked reduced, chastened and humbled, still, perhaps, not recovered from hi...

'On another note, the ESPN commentators need to go back and listen to themselves to see how repetitive and uninspired they sound with their commentating. It's rubbing off on Cahill too. Are they so clueless?'
+1"
Yeah. It's a shame the ESPN boys couldn't get up for the dream matchup of Fish v. Gulbis at the Mecca of tennis in Los Angeles.
Two Returns, One Surprise
There are certain things in tennis that we should probably just go ahead and stop wondering about. For example: Will Rafael Nadal’s leg-pounding style end his career early? Since he turned 25, he’s won the French Open and reached the Wimbledon final. Or: Is Novak Djokovic really a different ...

Why does any player who comes across as distant or business-like is seen as "evil"? It's not like Soderling is smashing racquets or trash talking opponents. It's like Davydenko's "problem" of being too "unsexy" for fans to like. Who cares? I know the media has to create characters to make things interesting for their bland copy, but let fans decide who is and isn't likeable.

Well said.
Act of Sod
In 2004, I walked out to a distant side court at Roland Garros to watch Robin Soderling, a heavy-hitting 19-year-old from Sweden, play his opening-round match against the aging Hyung-Taik Lee of Korea. What I remember most from that afternoon was sitting in the first row, at the far end of the ...

That's good news and bad news. Bad because I can't see how we'd get Amare without giving up Beasley.
Raptors 111, Heat 103
Observations from Wednesday's 111-103 loss to the Raptors at Air Canada Centre: The injury absence of Michael Beasley in the second half showed just how fragile this production is. There is a reason why there has been a season-long dance with .500. How much more can Erik Spoelstra ask of Dwya...
"The thing about it, and I understand the interest and the panic from you guys out there, three or four years from now, nobody will even remember this, that he was going through a growth period now," quoth the Spo.
Translation: Beasley is so talented that not even my retarded coaching, stupid buzz words, and my preference for a much less talented Power Forward can prevent Beasley from being a star.
Chalmers and Beasley and contrasting views
So, let's see, Michael Beasley doesn't play during crunch time in Monday's one-point loss to the Cavaliers, and the following day, coach Erik Spoelstra offers, "You know how we do things here: It's about winning. It's about winning, period. And everything else falls under that." Yet Mario Chalme...
Does anyone know what the Heat's record is in games decided by 3 or less? I'm just curious.
ASK IRA: Is Chalmers' fate third-string?
Q: Chalmers is overpaid. He isn't an NBA-caliber player. -- David. A: The one thing Mario isn't is overpaid, with his minimal contract. But Monday was very, very telling, with Chalmers held out of the second half. For once, the Heat made a stand with his playing time. But why not play Arroyo in...
I do think Wade should have tried to take lebron off the dribble rather than call over Haslem for the pick and pop. But I agree with Josh that this loss is definitely not on Wade--missed free throws and all.
Cavaliers 92, Heat 91
Observations from Monday's 92-91 loss to the Cavaliers at AmericanAirlines Arena: The second quarter was as riveting one-on-one as you can get during five-on-five, with LeBron James scoring 20 in the period and Dwyane Wade 17. James' 20 points tied Eddie House and Jamal Crawford for the most ...
So I ask: have you EVER seen NBA coaching as bad as tonight?
Posted by: josh | January 25, 2010 at 10:22 PM
I don't know... I've watched for a really long time now. I mean George Karl back in the day had his moments of stupidity, I've never really liked him. But Spo shot the team in the foot with those Beasley-Haslem-Anthony frontcourts, and the lack of any secondary scoring option near the end to adjust to the triple teams. And this has happened like 3-4 times now against the same teams with pretty much the same players. yeah I think this probably takes it.

That said, Hewitt is Australian TOAST right now against Federal Express. Could go 4 sets.
Posted by: Slledge | January 25, 2010 at 03:38 PM

Idiot. I only asked you about your predictions so you could open your mouth and show that you don't know the first thing about tennis. Mission accomplished. Fed stomped Hewitt late last night. Any real fan of tennis who has been following the AO would know that, poser. What you were watching today was a replay.
And wtf does "it could go 4 sets" mean? If Fed is dominating why wouldn't he win in 3 sets. Moron.
ASK IRA: Can LeBron by pried from Cleveland?
Q: I watched the Cavaliers-Lakers game last week. I just can't see LeBron leaving Cleveland. He looks like he enjoys playing there. Really. Your thoughts? -- Clark. A: But he also seems to be in an awfully good mood whenever he comes down here, with a smile creasing his face when he's asked abou...

To be fair, Dilfer was a glorified ballboy. If you replaced him with just about anyone Baltimore would have still won the Superbowl. D Wade on the other hand almost singlehandedly carried his team to a title.
Heat 115, Kings 84
Observations from Saturday's 115-84 victory over the Kings at AmericanAirlines Arena: Odd, isn't it, that Dwyane Wade (pictured below) could be named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for a week when his team lost by 39? But it still was a 3-1 week. But don't overstate the Heat's resilienc...
"So Beasley foils Antawn Jamison on consecutive post-ups, is 3 for 4, but is yanked with 3:48 to play in the opening period in favor of Udonis Haslem. Does the rotation always have to be followed so strictly?"

Lmao. Ira is slowly starting to think like the bloggers here. =)
Heat 112, Wizards 88
Observations from Friday's 112-88 victory over the Wizards at Verizon Center: No, there is absolutely no figuring this team out. Then again, the Wizards are pretty bad. Rafer Alston and Dwyane Wade played off one another as well as in any of the nine games since Alston was added. The two comb...
Larry Brown had the Bobcats all over Spo's crummy offensive sets.
Bobcats 104, Heat 65
Observations from Wednesday's 104-65 loss to the Bobcats at Times Warner Cable Arena: An awful, embarrassing, humiliating start, as the Heat fell behind 22-6, with the Bobcats making nine of their first 11 shots. There are just too many times when this team does not look ready to play. Way too...

in the article it says that Wall has a 43 and a half inch verticle... if thats true, he's got about five inches on Wade at least

Nate Robinson also has a better vertical than Wade.
ASK IRA: Could Dorell have a long-term Heat future?
Q: All this talk of trading Wright seems wrong to me. The team has invested so much to develop him, and just when he is starting to show signs of some development, it is going to dump him for salary-cap reasons? -- Shaun. A: Actually, it is for tax reasons. But consider that even if the Heat doe...
Im bringin Porch Monkey back.
Another tease, or something more substantial?

ASK IRA: Can Arison force Riley to coach?
Q: If Riley swings for the fences and lands an "A-lister" this offseason, will he still keep Spoelstra as coach? I think Riley would love to coach another great team. The star player may not want to play for a rookie coach. The team might be more attractive to the incoming star with Riley as coac...

"We're all disappointed, angry," coach Erik Spoelstra said, "but we also have to keep perspective and get back to the connection and purity we had just 72 hours ago, after the Phoenix game."
LMFAO. What's with the pseudo-spiritual, new age language Spo is constantly using. I expect to hear that garbage from a stoner at a Phish concert, not from an NBA coach.
Stand back: Nothing to say here folks
In the wake of Monday's 29-point loss in Utah, security asked the media to wait at an outside hallway at EnergySolutions Arena, instead of the interview area directly adjacent to the Heat locker room. One of the attendants said the request was made by a member of the team's staff. Considering ho...

Jazz 118, Heat 89
Observations from Monday's 118-89 loss to the Jazz at EnergySolutions Arena: Another early surrender. That Friday victory over in Phoenix seems so long ago. The defense was atrocious. And at times, the offense was clueless. Dwyane Wade went to the locker room with 1:26 to play in the first qu...
"A: Actually, I think the Heat believes it can convince Udonis to stay, because of the hometown factor. I don't think the team is in any position to let him go this season, with its spot in the playoff race remaining so tenuous."
-------------------------------
Oh God, if the Heat re signs Captain Mouthpiece I hope they trade Beasley. I can't stand seeing the kid not get minutes because of Spo's love affair.
Clippers 94, Heat 84
Observations from Sunday's 94-84 loss to the Clippers at Staples Center: There simply was no fire from the outset. And then not enough at the finish. This takes some of the luster off the victory in Phoenix. Dwyane Wade shot 1 for 6 in the first quarter, which ended with the Heat down 30-20....
