These actions are a form of terrorism, designed to intimidate political opponents and destroy our government. I have no doubt that what we see is just the tip of the iceberg of hate.
Can democracy function in this atmosphere? Surely such behavior is un-American. We cannot condone this behavior. Please stop the crazy, hate-filled rhetoric that foments a fanatical fringe into frenzy.
Are you talking about the Tea party or the current administration?
Ease up on incivility
Despicable rhetoric on the airways and in the halls of Congress has polarized and threatened to paralyze government. Purveyors of hate have created a national climate of intolerance, which has fostered racist insults, criminal assault and terroristic threats against congressmen; as well as crimi...
My elementary school is now a church, my middle school is now a vocational school. The high school I attended looks nothing like it did when I was there. Life goes on. Buildings wear out and are replaced. Grow up and get used to it.
The best way forward
I have just two observations regarding the student from Westport High School who was quoted as saying “he had nothing to go back to,” concerning the school closings in the Kansas City School District. I am one of nine siblings who attended a total of four Catholic high schools growing up in St....
The problem I have with these "march out the sick people" routines Barry does is that you just never know. I have news for you all Obamacare lovers: People with "Cadillac" health insurance coverage die every day. Nobody makes it out alive. You get that, right?
I have received health care for 45 years. Sometimes I had coverage, sometimes I didn't. The quality of my care was never determined by the quality of my coverage, but one thing is for certain; at some point, if I don't get hit by a bus, I am going to get sick & die, and no amount of insurance coverage or Dr.'s care is going to prevent it.
Hard to sympathize
I expect a torrent of these "victim" articles as the left-wing media tries to help ram Obamacare down the throats of an angry American electorate, but a recent example is not an effective one (3/16, A1, "The coverage gap; Insurance companies say the rules are needed. A Kansas City man’s fear of ...
Lee Judge is the most consistently unfunny, unimaginative cartoonist in the business. Feel free to color all of his cartoons solid black
Don’t colorize Judge
I have always enjoyed Lee Judge’s political cartoons. But whoever is adding the color is ruining them. The colors are dark and dirty, and they cover up the detail. Please let us enjoy the black and white version. Cynthia Spear Kansas City Editor’s note: Lee Judge colors his own cartoons.
Yeah James lets raise the price on bulk rate mail and put an entire industry out of business. Is that what you had in mind, James? Thanks for your support, genius.
Postal Service must change old ways
Why is it that the junk mail gets a special discount when it is what creates so much work for the post office? Semis don’t get a special price on diesel. Gas guzzlers don’t get a special deal on gas. The Postal Service should give mail carriers Saturdays off. Raise the price on bulk and other d...
Just an fyi to make these Reagan figures seem ridiculous: The deficit in February was $220 billion. That's about $8.5 billion per day. Now, what were you saying about Reagan?
Government pluses
Those were nice words from R.W. Yeager, quoting former President Ronald Reagan, an "actual" president: "Government is not the solution. It’s the problem." (2/26, Letters) I hate to have you face reality, R.W., but Barack Obama is your president, just like Reagan was mine, even though it appeare...
Well from what I have read this guy was not walking down the sidewalk when he was run over by the system. He was out running in traffic daring cars to hit him.
Public anguish in U.S. boiling over
I certainly do not condone the actions of the man who crashed his plane into the Austin, Texas Internal Revenue Service building, and I truly sorry for those injured and killed in this completely unfortunate incident (2/19, A2, "IRS is target of attack; Police say the irate man posted a rant on ...
Have you been in a coma for the first 8 years of this decade, Joe? Bush was trashed more than any president in the history of this country, usually for what he said. But at least they were his words, not some polished stage act speech. Obama didnt get my vote, he won't get my respect, and he gets absolutely no sympathy. I will enjoy nothing more than watching him take his sorry ass back to Chicago in 3 years.
President deserves Americans’ support
I have noticed that there have been a lot of letters bashing President Barack Obama in The Star lately. One was that he needs to listen and not talk (2/2, Letters). I just want to point out the hypocrisy of the right. Where was all this anger when the previous administration was getting us into...
Thank you Sharon from O-La-La land
Health care reform
Doug Gibb (2/3, Letters) said that he did not want to pay for illegal immigrants or people who can afford insurance but refuse to buy it. We are paying for both of these now. When they go to the emergency room, the cost is greater, and we pay the bill with our health insurance. Until we have ev...
Actually, care must be taken when turning off the ignition not to lock the steering wheel. Nothing is ever as easy as it appears.
Toyota’s car troubles
With all the to-do about the Toyota accelerator problem, someone should promulgate an emergency response in case of a stuck accelerator pedal. My suggestion is to turn off the ignition or shift to neutral. Stephen A. Sasenick Overland Park
If this is true then your God is an A-hole. No thanks!
Haitian tragedy
I’m so sad for the Haitians and what they have gone through these past weeks. My comfort in this and every disaster is that the Lord’s hand is not only present in them but directing them. He does all things for his own glory. The Bible is full of references to God’s sovereignty or his absolute ...
Well Jer is an idiot, but it has nothing to do with Fox News. Jer thinks that because Best Buy Can deliver his home theater system to him the day after he orders it online, that we should be able to get food and aid to an impoverished country that lacks even basic infrastructure the next day too. Yes. Jer is an idiot
Speaking of D'bags
Here is a story - probably relatives of Jer - from believe it or not - Fox News

Get Haiti aid right
You’re trying to tell me that we can carry out massive and successful military invasions and operations in countries halfway around the globe, but we’re fumbling over a week’s time to get help to people with outstretched arms a two-hour flight away from Miami? These people need us, and they need...
This one is easy. Anne is a dumbass. And no we dont need a draft. For gods sake will you bleeding hearts give it a rest about what the military wants/needs/deserves? You never hear anyone in the military bitching, do you? Well, except for what a douchebag their Commander in Chief is...
For fairness, bring back the draft
I was thrilled that Anne Johannesen (12/18, Letters) agrees that serving in the military is “a high-risk job,” but she thinks that “with pay scale and terms clearly laid out prior to signing up” that “taxpayers don’t owe military families a free existence.” She must think they’re all just freelo...
Vivian's letter belongs in the comics section. Go back to sleep, Viv.
U.S. needs peace council
Along with many other people, I was terribly disappointed when President Obama announced a surge in Afghanistan, sending 30,000 more troops. I have kept wondering what went wrong. To whom was he talking? Who were his advisers? The problem I think is that he was meeting in the “war room.” Accordi...
Amazing that someone from Iowa is concerned about Kansans looking like hayseeds. Wow
Give Gill a chance
I’m living in Iowa now, but hearing about the “Fire Turner Gill” Web site added to the perception I encounter from people outside the state who think of Kansas residents as hayseeds. I read the Jason Whitlock column about watching Buffalo University and football in the Mid-American Conference (...
I would comment on this letter and the few before it, but I have to go to the City Union Mission and find my boss so he can sign my paycheck
Blood, sweat and tears
After observing the ongoing debate over health care between Democrats and Republicans, I have finally come to a conclusion as to who is really running this country. I hear news reporters talk about the president appeasing the Congress, which causes me much distress because I thought our elected ...
Well Gary, add moron to your resume. Keep it up and you can run for President
GOP’s Joe
The Republican Party plus Sen. Joe Lieberman have established themselves as the “death panel” for the thousands of Americans who will die as a result of not having access to health insurance. If they are capable of shame, which is doubtful, they should certainly feel it now. Gary Cate Leawood
Anyone who pays 30% interest on a credit card is a fool. But why the hell not? Let's pass some more laws so that the people who play by the rules, pay their bills and establish good credit have to pick up the slack and pay for the dumba$$'s who have been forced into this terrible predicament. I feel so bad for them. Now who the hell do I make this check out to?
For the people?
I thought Congress was supposed to address the credit card interest problem a couple of years back. It seems they did address it but only to the benefit of the credit card companies. Currently credit card companies can legally charge 29.99 percent interest. To me this is a crime against the nati...
The earth - Ain't going anywhere. We, on the other hand, are going to get shaken off this planet like a bad case of fleas on a dog. However, it won't be because we are gasping for air. More likely it will be because our do nothing President and Congress let some rogue nation get its hands on nuclear weapons. Ooops, too late....
Global warming dispute continues
As Rachel Cleetus and Jimmy Adegoke “see it” (12/16, Opinion, “Price of going green justified”) the world’s significant and credible scientific experts have concluded that humans are killing the planet, and if something isn’t done immediately we are all doomed. It is interesting that The Star se...
And all of these new laws, penalties, sobriety checkpoints, and saturation patrols have reduced drunken driving how much? Anyone? Anyone?
Could it be none?
Tougher DWI laws may trample citizens’ rights
Based on The Star story (12/10, A-1 “Tougher Laws For DWI Sought”), it appears to me that Missouri is going to do its best to abuse the civil rights of its citizens in spite of our Bill of Rights. The first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights, guarantee certain fr...
Are there actually any private insurers who cover abortion? It's hard enough to find affordable coverage for actually having the baby, let alone having an abortion.
And GG, I thought your idiotic D-bag in Chief was supposed to end the Iraq war?
Women need better health care coverage
Although the U.S. House of Representatives passed a historic health reform bill in early November, its members adopted an amendment that if enacted would effectively ban private abortion coverage for millions of American women. The Stupak Ban will take away private health care coverage for compr...
Whispering and the other butt kissers who drop to their knees to worship Obama's staff of rightousness also would dismiss the $80 a month pay cut that my Navy son is now enduring. Yeah, I'm sure that was Bush's fault, since he was so anti military. Obama is a P.O.S.!
Obama falls short
So the president is tired of “fat cat bankers” giving themselves big bonuses while Main Street suffers. I guess he conveniently forgot his administration has hired dozens of new czars and staff with salaries more than $100,000 each. It canceled all Social Security recipients’ cost of living incr...
I'm done sugarcoating this fraud of a President. This legislation will do nothing but cost Americans' jobs. Not everyone can be a community activist Nikki. Someone has to do the real work so you can drive your Prious to the whole food store. Meanwhile, your buddy happily announces that the net loss of jobs wasn't as much as they thought it would be. Unbelievable. I would be embarrassed right now if I had voted for this guy
Obama leadership vital
The whole world watches as global leaders meet in Copenhagen to negotiate an international treaty to fight climate change. President Barack Obama needs to be a strong and committed leader at these negotiations to move them forward. He has said that climate change is a top priority for his admini...
Will we one day take back Washington and give the status quo the sendoff (firing squad)they deserve?
Yes We Will!
‘Yes we can’ rhetoric
Can we as American people destroy our republic from within? "Yes we can." Can we stand idly by and allow our Congress and president to push through a health care bill that will spell the doom of many U.S. citizens? "Yes we can." Will we allow our government to continue the so-called stimulus pac...
Apparently there aren't enough nuts in KC, so the Star is now importing. How about if your do nothing but look good President keep his GD communist mitts off what we have left. God I can't wait for 2012 so this D-bag will be gone - and take his blind sheep with him.
