Good Morning Gentle Readers, Ours was a smallish wedding at a chapel somewhere in Anaheim. It lasted too long, in part because the Most Reverend Joseph L Montoya just kept right on. And on. And on. Worse: the staff left... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Ma will be 88 years old this August. She has given up dancing on Saturday nights and the circulation in her legs could be better, but she still gets around pretty well. This is us, in... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Leaning up against the coffee maker this morning was a business size envelope with a note on the outside. For Mom. In keeping with Anna Jarvis' original vision of what Mother's Day should be, inside was... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Although May can be windy and cold here in So Cal, rain is seldom on the calendar. Last night's rain wasn't enough to cure the drought, but it washed the dust off, freshened the air, and... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, The House Blond called me around six to tell me the district finals were running way, way ahead of schedule. Since we're like a Dwight Yoakum tune (a thousand miles from nowhere) I hopped in the... Continue reading

Buenos Días Amables Lectores, When we was vagrant yoots, El Jeronimo de Crow refused to allow anyone to eat taco food in his car. That was a smart move on his part but it meant that when we snaffled up... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Not the surfers. The drink called Endless Summer, which really takes two people to finish off. I don't know what's in it, but I suspect rum, papaya juice, pineapple juice, guava juice, lime juice, curacao, triple... Continue reading

Glen, Thanks. I've been to Maui twice and I thought the food in Waikiki was a bit better and less expensive than Maui or the Big Island. Not that we didn't have good food on Maui and not that every place we ate on Oahu was awesome, but generally I think there's more competition and therefore better prices, service, and food quality on Oahu. We went up to North Shore. Thought we had found a great place to snorkel until we realized that the dunes hid the shore break from us until we were right on the beach. You are right, though, awesome spot.

On my way home from the House Blond's track meet at Mt San Antonio College last night, I could see billowing smoke and the eerie glow of this fire for a dozen miles. The fire is burning at the south... Continue reading

Thanks, SA. I'm not a big fan of the government (as you know) but somebody has to keep the Navy ships in good working order. That's a far better way to spend tax money than a whole lot of other crap they waste money on. A good friend of mine went through the same program after he got out of the Army back in the day. He worked at the Long Beach Naval Shipyards until they closed down. It was a good job with a good retirement plan. I don't think he had any regrets.

Good Morning Gentle Readers, TWC has been workin' on his tan. Gotta be ready for the tropics when The Boy and I touch down in Honolulu next week. Sometime back, Jacob applied for a paid, four-year apprenticeship program at the... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Today No Star fills in as guest blogger de jour. Last night I fired up the backyard grill with a mixture of briquettes and hardwood charcoal to rotisserie a 3.5 lb. boneless Ribeye Roast. I used... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Dave Barry has it right..... The modern business meeting, however, might be better compared with a funeral, in the sense that you have a gathering of people who are wearing uncomfortable clothing and would rather be... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, The XXXIV doesn't refer to a vintage. Like the enumeration of Superbowl games, the XXXIV represents the number of years that Rosenblum has been making wine. In this case, it is thirty four years and my... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, I am typically against screw cap closures, but the Covey Run is a decent Cabernet at a really good price and I can overlook the screw cap. At $3.99 in Southern California money the wine is... Continue reading
