On my way home from the House Blond's track meet at Mt San Antonio College last night, I could see billowing smoke and the eerie glow of this fire for a dozen miles. The fire is burning at the south... Continue reading

Thanks, SA. I'm not a big fan of the government (as you know) but somebody has to keep the Navy ships in good working order. That's a far better way to spend tax money than a whole lot of other crap they waste money on. A good friend of mine went through the same program after he got out of the Army back in the day. He worked at the Long Beach Naval Shipyards until they closed down. It was a good job with a good retirement plan. I don't think he had any regrets.

Good Morning Gentle Readers, TWC has been workin' on his tan. Gotta be ready for the tropics when The Boy and I touch down in Honolulu next week. Sometime back, Jacob applied for a paid, four-year apprenticeship program at the... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Today No Star fills in as guest blogger de jour. Last night I fired up the backyard grill with a mixture of briquettes and hardwood charcoal to rotisserie a 3.5 lb. boneless Ribeye Roast. I used... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Dave Barry has it right..... The modern business meeting, however, might be better compared with a funeral, in the sense that you have a gathering of people who are wearing uncomfortable clothing and would rather be... Continue reading

Toppa the Mornin' to ya Gentle Readers, You do know why it's called a Paddy Wagon, right? Years before TWC's vagrant yoot, when he was but a wee lad, we had family friends that were turkey ranchers. The Patriarch spoke... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, We're only a couple of weeks from the Spring Equinox and the short days of winter are on the wane. Dawn broke this morning just before six and fifteen minutes later Old Mr Sol had made... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, The XXXIV doesn't refer to a vintage. Like the enumeration of Superbowl games, the XXXIV represents the number of years that Rosenblum has been making wine. In this case, it is thirty four years and my... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, We got a little rain overnight and there's another storm coming. It's all welcome, but would have been more welcome a week ago. Some of the winter vegetation hasn't survived the last three weeks of warm... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, I am typically against screw cap closures, but the Covey Run is a decent Cabernet at a really good price and I can overlook the screw cap. At $3.99 in Southern California money the wine is... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, A guy I know was eating breakfast with his 10-year-old Grandson and asked him, What day is today? Without skipping a beat he said, It's Presidents Day! He's smart, so I asked him, What does Presidents... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, The grapes were sourced from a specific, high altitude estate vineyard in the Uco Valley on the slopes of Mt Tupungato in Mendoza, Argentina. Unfortunately, the 2011 Acordeón Malbec drinks like an export-only Oz Shiraz. It's... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, The holidays have brought us some chilly weather this year, including several days of cold, dry, howling Santa Ana winds. TWC doesn't mind, though, because it's just not Christmas without a fire. Not that kind of... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, I’m never happy to see Christmas pass; it makes all the decorations and holiday gear suddenly seem sad and out of date. It shouldn’t be so, as we are celebrating The Season, and that lasts beyond... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, The tune has been covered by scores of artists and nobody has ever come close to Nat King Cole's exquisite 1953 recording of this quintessentially American Christmas classic. On this recording, Nat Cole is accompanied by... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, TWC doesn't know if LA was a better place in 1953, but it was certainly classier and less crowded. Note the smogless, azure blue sky. It is said that the sweet fragrance of citrus blossoms perfumed... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Although the Google calendar app didn't quite get it right, the Jewish Festival of Lights began last night at sundown. Here's sending Hanukkah blessings to all my Jewish friends. Back in the days of my vagrant... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, TWC isn't big on prepared food to begin with, but there are a few prepared foods that aren't bad. Trader Joes Coconut Shrimp isn't one of them. We found them inedible as did Beans. It's kinda... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, 85 street level degrees doesn't feel much like Christmas, but it gave me a chance for some tan maintenance. It is the Friday after Thanksgiving and that's when we open for Christmas with a raucous, upbeat,... Continue reading
