Good Morning Gentle Readers, I intended to work up a little historical narrative about the amalgam of Mezzo-American, Scots-Irish, and Catholic traditions that when taken together form the nucleus of what we modern Americans call Halloween. Instead, I will defer... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Here at the Casa, we're done with all that pumpkin carving and trick or treating with the kids. It was loads of fun, but they are off on their own now, hanging with friends and happy... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, TWC nearly drowned while bobbing for apples in old galvanized wash tubs. I wasn't worth a tinker's damn at it, neither. Looking back, I think it's because my mouth was too small to get a good... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, My mother hung on to this promotional newspaper all these years, before sending it on a few years ago. The newspaper with a headline announcing my arrival was a clever marketing tool, brimming with ads and... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, This is the Walker River, a few miles east of Sonora Pass on Highway 120. The river eventually empties into Walker Lake in Nevada. Like Mono Lake, Walker Lake has no outlet except evaporation or absorption.... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Wishing my Jewish friends all the very best of their new year celebration, Rosh Hashanah, which began at sunset last night. There were untold numbers of heroes of the Big War, most of whom are unknown... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Had breakfast with Mrs TWC at Mimi's before whisking her off to Orange County's John Wayne Airport. LAX could take some lessons here, starting with John Wayne's dedicated offramp lane from the 55 that drops in... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, It will be a hectic Sweet Sixteenth for my Renaissance Girl. We're in the throes of a heat wave and the triple digit temps have bumped her two hours of cross country practice from after school... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Noticed the smoke about 10:30 this morning. The fire looks to be between Black Star Canyon and Main Divide Road. I imagine the afternoon sea breeze will push it over the ridge toward South Corona. No... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, It was foggy and 60 degrees when I wandered out to the hills with the dogs for my morning constitutional. That's one reason why I was able to find Jimsom Weed in bloom. Generally it blooms... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, TWC is a fan of Black Box wines, which are generally better than one would expect in a cheap, box wine. However, I'm not getting anything from the Pinot Noir except a vague reminiscence of a... Continue reading

Well Done.
Glen, I had no idea you ever had pancreatitus, but from what I have heard, it is unbearable. I'm pretty sure pancreatitus is several notches worse on the pain and misery scale. They never offered me morphine, though I would have gladly taken it.
Toni, thanks so much. Happy to call you a good friend.
Thanks, Linda.
Thank you, Bill, I do appreciate your friendship and kind words.

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Navigating the snoring bodies on my office floor made it a little tricky getting to my desk this morning. But, I made it. Twice. Without kicking any of the early birthday celebrants in the head, or... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Sometime during the last twenty-four hours the new owner piled small boulders around a couple of No Trespassing signs blocking the roads leading to the lake. I can respect that, and we did. The guy's naivete... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, The yella squish died. The zookini is lookin' pathetic. The canteloupe is stunted but flowering. The Roma tomato is precisely the same height it was six weeks ago with the same three lonely, pint sized, green... Continue reading
