Good Morning Gentle Readers, Twenty eight years ago this morning we played this song instead of Here Comes The Bride. By the time drummer Danny Seraphine came in with the big downbeat, Mrs TWC found herself at the altar. Her... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Guest Blogger and sommelier, Laura Diaz, takes us to sunny La Rioja this morning. Like, Laura, TWC has always been a fan of Rioja wines. One of my personal Top-Ten-Finest-Wines-Ever, was a Torres Gran Coronas. The... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, The Boy and I spent the better part of Saturday at the boat drags. Unfortunately, the wind didn't cooperate and toward the end of the day some of the races were canceled. Wandering on back to... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, As many of you know, Cinco de Mayo marks the victory of a rag-tag bunch of Mexicans over the most formidable army in the world. The Frogs hadn't lost a battle in a half century. However,... Continue reading

Let's hope for mocked up stunt double Chevelles, Mike. :-) I'm late to the Reacher series myself, Mrs TWC has read them all. Twelve, I think. I'm on number two, reading them in order. The books are entertaining, somewhat light reading, but the plots are good and pretty well thought out. Sort of a Travis McGee series for the 21st Century.
I bet you're right, SA. I've never seen Blue Bell in a store out here, though. Love to find some. Cheers!

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Honestly, I expected less from Jack Reacher The Movie, but I was wrong, Tom Cruise was outstanding. The writers managed to pull together a coherent plot flow from beginning to end, no mean feat in modern... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, I don't eat much ice cream, so I'm late to the party only to discover that the most awesome cherry vanilla ice cream on earth, has morphed into some Godforsaken imitation dairy desert. I told Mrs... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, 750 guys, armed with a few handguns, some home-made grenades, rifles, and handful of automatic weapons stunned the Nazi troops, forcing the Germans to retreat beyond the ghetto wall. Unfortunately, 60,000 unarmed people are no match... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Is this an awesome wine? No. But it is decent enough for Tuesday nights and it only costs six bucks. It drinks better than the price would indicate and is as good as the six dollar... Continue reading

Revisiting premature IRA/401(k) distributions. Don't take the money without careful consideration. I just completed a tax return for a middle class working couple with one kid. In 2012 they took a distribution from a 401(k) plan. The effective, combined marginal... Continue reading

I've gotten more and more fond of Iris as I've gotten to be more and more cantankerous.

Good Morning Gentle Readers, Lodi, which historically has been home to the jug wine end of the wine business, is scorching hot all summer long. It ain't the desert, but close you eyes and it could be mistaken for Lungcancer,... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, My friend Felice tells me that..... Traditionally speaking it's Mogen David or Manischewitz wine for Pesach, or nothing at all. Passover is always about traditions - good or bad. I don't always agree with Alice, but... Continue reading

On the money SA, it is being American. The Snells go back to the early 1800's and all were hard headed Dutchmen. My wife's family is newer. She's third generation off-the-boat Irish and off-the-reservation Indian. My kids have enough Indian blood to tap into the gambling revenue. :-)

Toppa the Mornin' to ya Gentle Readers, You do know why it's called a Paddy Wagon, right? Years before TWC's vagrant yoot, when he was but a wee lad, we had family friends that were turkey ranchers. The Patriarch spoke... Continue reading

Good Morning Gentle Readers, From the LA Times..... It's got to be said that while wine folks are wonderful people, in general (and frequently in specific), they often seem to lack a sense of humor about themselves. But way back... Continue reading
