A warm rock on a sunny, breezy day with Rafa.

Rafa's in no way a "saint". I resent the notion and I can totally picture Rafa giving a wave of his hand, raising an eyebrow and letting out a PFFFFTTT! As for bringing up Berd, I felt that I was somewhat going a little off trial there (doesn't hurt to mention here that Berd said he voted for Rafa for the sportsmanship award and that his opinion of Rafa hasn't changed.) But I wanted to voice my opinion about the matter because there are some people around the interweb who are of the thought that the "incident" directly affected proceedings and I disagree. INDIRECTLY, hellz yeah! Pissed off Rafa is a tennis murderlizing machine. But I don't exactly see where the ump was intimidated by Rafa. After all, he DID make a call that ultimately went against him, no? I will reiterate that Rafa didn't exactly go on a 5 minute rant that lasted during changeovers and during his opponents serve. It's not the same as the USO incident in the Fed/Sod match where Fed gave the ump "the look" and the ump basically asked Fed if he wanted the point (making one of the worst calls I've seen all year). Heh, if anything, I think that the umps have been somewhat of a hardass towards Rafa this year. Don't get me started on the terrible call at Wimbly that led Rafa to say, "Pascal, what are you insane?!" (my fav quote, it may even trump JohnnyMac's "you cannot be serious!") In any case, choosing the "elite super superstars" of a sport and parading around them is what EVERY sports organization thrives on. They prop you up on sec and they tear you down the next. Whatever gets the fans talking, whatever boosts the number of views on an article. The fact is, they are the crowd pullers and the money-makers. Ava summed it up eloquently, I can't say it any better, really.

Dang that's bad news. I really miss that girl. No one's got as much grrrroooowwl power as she does. *sigh* Oh, well. I hope everything goes well with her. I like your idea of her being 2011 RG champ, d'you think she could talk Rafa into winning the mixed dubs even with her? ;)

HOLY. SHIT. WHAT A MATCH! A STANDING OVATION FOR RAFAEL NADAL AND ANDY MURRAY! What a nerve-wracking and breath-taking display of tennis. Take a bow you two. Bravo! Hands down, THIS is match of the tournament. I am hoarse right now, and dizzy, and inspired. The two of you need to be proud of yourselves. Awesome. Oh, a shout-out from a buddy of mine. She want to say, "MashAllah, what a match. THAT is heart."

Absolutely. People need to realize the amount of tension in that match. In fact, after having watched it back (ahem, for purely analytical perspective, of course) the truth of the matter is this: the rant never got personal, and it never got disrespectful. It wasn't even a lengthy fuss. Rafa is naturally dramatic. The man's got a lot of swagger. Add to that the fact that he was speaking in his native language, which is in of itself a VERY passionate and dramatic language (you can say "it's a sunny day outside" and sound passionate)...So, please. In the end, Big Berd got the point. What stopped him from breaking? Oh, yeah. Rafa's superb play. Berd has nobody but himself to blame. Actually, isn't this the same guy that got called out by Marat for taking MTOs and then strategically manipulating the match? At the end of the day it was ONE incident in the blue moon, that never sunk low or got personal or nasty. It was a disagreement. They made peace in the end. End of.

I'm so with you CNote. Kick. Ass. Pissed off Rafa is a HOTT Rafa. Whew! Was he all Latino and hotblooded dramar out there. *fans self* But it's not only the pissed off Rafa that's impressive, many players get pissed. It's how he controls and channels that energy into something positive. I mean, it takes a hell of a lot of mental fortitude to do something like that. Mucho impressive. On another note, it was sweet to see Rafa make peace with Carlos after the match, giving him a warm handshake and smiling at him. He was also gracious in his post-match interview. But me still thinks that Carlos made a boo-boo. Ah, the fiery flame of competitiveness and passion...Even after a looong season of tennis and after winning so much. Boy does he have a big appetite. Vamos dimples. Go get 'em. P.S. Congrats to BigBerd. Despite the loss, he played some great tennis during most of this tourney. I feel he had a chance of hanging in there in that first set with Rafa (and possibly snagging it??) Rafa was playing his own service games superbly (with the exception of the shaky first service game). But I think Rafa wanted to break so badly that he was almost handling Berd's serve with TOO much care. I mean, come on! The guy only had a 38% (or summat) of first serves in! Usually Rafa would be all up on his second serve! Well, the whole "incident" with the umpire lit a fire under Rafa's famoose ass and...well, we all saw it. I felt that the inner coil of tension that was inside of him was finally sprung loose. Dude needs to vent a little more often. But really BigBerd, in hindsight, when all is said and done, was it worth it? ;) P.P.S. Did anyone else notice Rafa's kid sis kissing her mom on the cheek as if to reassure her. It made me feel all soft inside. Of course Mama Nadal doesn't wanna see her baby like that.

Another contribution to Rafole love. This pic was taken at the net BEFORE the match started (by the lovely Ella Ling): http://rafael-nadal.smugmug.com/Photos-On-Court/Tournaments-2010/US-Open/368D3874/1007085658_tFzzb-M.jpg

*sigh* I'm not following Davis Cup @ the mo (maxed out when it comes to tennis and comatose time is up :( ) But I'm sad for Nalby. I totally have a soft spot for him and Pico. The thought of Monfils having a serious performance is almost too hard to imagine. You mean no unnecessary dives or going for crazy trick shots? No running around 500 meters behind the baseline and absolutely refusing to move up? No interacting with the crowd and getting them riled up? That's it. I can't see it.

Hey! I meant to thank you for the heads up on the Regis & Kelly vid. I watched it (more than once) and it was too cute. Rafa's smile is just.....*shivers with glee* Regis was so over the moon and acting like such a fan-girl. After following Rafa for so long (that sounds creepy) I'm so used to his "twins" personality: The on-court gladiator VS. the Smiley prince charming. But I can totally understand Regis' fascination when it comes to the contrast of both personalities. Totally man-crushing.

You can totally say you're proud of him! As a fan, it's like, our right. After all, we struggle along with him and suffer and agonize and lose sleep and get nervous stomachs and scream till we're hoarse and throw out a limb trying to imitate his awesome fist pumps or epic Wimbledon tumble or repeatedly suffer heart attacks or scare the living daylights outta our pet cats cheering for him or tear up over victories & heartbreaks or worry over him or notice every single thing he does so when he doesn't do it we freak out about why he isn't doing it anymore or hang on every word he says so that we practically mouth his answers as he says them himself or watch and re-watch his matches and cheer as if it were the first time or ... You get the picture. It's totally normal for us. Yeah, it's what fans do. I'm proud of him toooooo...

Ange, you're one cray-zay fan, I love you girl! You are SO not embracing the Rafa mentality are you? You greedy, greedy girl! We're just really "happy for the win", and "this season is more than a dream", to finally complete the Career Grand Slam is "unbelievable and it is more than we ever thought", our main goal is "to continue to improve and get better and have chances to be at the top". The biggest tournament on our minds is, "Thailand Open". Riiiiight? Though, I admit, I love how you think, no? ;D

Yeah, I think he mentioned switching to Barca for the time his Uncle Miguel was playing there. Then he switched back to rooting for Madrid when his Uncle was no longer competing. Boy would I love to be a fly on the wall (or on Rafa's lap, I'm not picky) during a soccer game in his house with all of his uncles, Papa Nadal, and his buddies. :D

*throws arms up in the air* There ya go! 'told you I knew nothing... Hmm, Calle, being a fan of BOTH the Yankees AND Red Sox..but WORSE?! I think I'm beginning to get the gist. Maybe the fact that he's a Gemini has something to do with it? :)) I dunno. It doesn't really matter to me as long as his team (whatever it is) wins. Because when they win (when he's not busy jinxing them) he's happy. And when Rafa's happy, I'M happy for Rafa's happiness. That's a lot of good feelin'. All I know is that I saw his face after Uncle Toni told him from the stands (after a match win) that Real Madrid lost, and I tell you, I CAN'T TAKE IT! I never wanna see those round disappointed eyes and his bottom lip poked out ever again! He's such a baby when it comes to his soccer. I guess it's kinda how fans feel about him...

I totally take my initial reaction back. I guess it was more knee-jerk than anything else. Strut your stuff Rafa.

*waves a hand* Old news. Rafa stared balding visibly last year (no surprising it was the year of his toughest moments both career-wise and personally.) Oh, well. He's STILL a Hottie. And that very fact is a testament to just how much charisma and appeal this guy has. And when his hair isn't a wet mop, his mane is actually very cute. He gets all curly and swirly and adorbz. This is God's way of being fair and evening things out for all the other men, no? :D Rafa: Hair or no hair, women don't care.

HAHAHAHHA! I totally agree! I clicked on a link to "DayLife" and it's using this pic as the background. My sister was walking across the living room and happened to pass behind me, her first comment? "THAT BUM!!!" LOL! Absolutely gorgeous. I'm so using this as a background (when I finally get my hands on a computer I don't have to share with pesky kid brothers.) The all-back "Dark Knight" tennis kit was perffffect on him. You could SEE his back muscles and physique even from a zoom-out!

Rafa also supports Real Mallorca (which he's recently become a shareholder) and Barcelona. Real Madrid is just his ultimate fav. As far as owners/coaches..well, it's the TEAM you support, not the suits. ARGH! I'm not goina even pretend I know much about soccer (save from what I've learned from Rafa blabbing about it non-stop), BUT I'll try to equate it to my love of football (the real kind ;P) I'm a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, if their coach/owner was ever the Lord of Darkness, I think that I would still continue to actually support the TEAM, while hating the moneybags. Am I making sense? It's like eating an oatmeal cookie but picking out the raisins. The cookie is what you really want, and you still love it, even though it had raisins in it.

Ah, I know that he MUST be exhausted and wants to just fall on his face and hibernate. But, boy, I also know that he is enjoying every waking moment of this! How does someone with such a great physique as Rafa not seem to get a perfectly tailored suit? (it's happened, but it's VERY rare) *sigh* Somehow, the lack of a perfectly tailored suit is something else I flove about him. Vamos Rafa! You deserve it, buddy. My cheeks are just as sore as yours. Like JohnnyMac said, "Thank you for being you."

Yeah! I saw it. Rafa's reaction to Regis was too adorbz. His smile is downright lethal. No wonder Regis couldn't contain himself and was being a shameless fangirl. :D Rafa's reaction to Regis when Regis said, "DjokoviK was a lot better than I thought he would be", was SO funny! He looked at him like, "What are you insane?!" HHEHhehehe, I've been walking on sunshine since Monday and there's no sign it'll end anytime soon... :))
