I should say I end up with that oil slick, because coloring my hair basically makes me start the whole process over again. Another downside.

Well, my hair just smelled like unwashed hair. I'd think if it was my diet (which is actually pretty healthy), I'd emit a stink no matter what I shampooed with. :) Also, and I probably should have mentioned this in the post, I HAVE to color my VERY gray hair every few weeks, so I always end up with the oil slick that comes along with the first few weeks of going no poo. I'm not willing to go totally gray for this!
