The other day I was on the bus and found myself in conversation with two little girls, aged about 4 and 9. After a couple of minutes of chat, the littler one held out her finger and said "YOLO." I touched her finger with my finger. This seemed to be the correct countermove, but incomplete. So I looked at them without taking my finger away, and waited. Older one: Now you have to say "true, true." Me: OK! True, true. Littler one, satisfied, withdrew her finger. Older one: You know what YOLO means? Me: You only live once? Older one:... Continue »

I bought new pjs for Aila. Tesla chose them. They just fit, instead of being a tad big. Mama never learns how big her babies are! Of course T picked the most colorful, funky pjs...it turns out this fits Aila and her crazy personality just fine. T wore her most striped pjs she has to match. I love watching T & A together. Granted I had her hair up in miniture pigtails, Aila's hair is turning crazier as it gets longer. This is definitely from the Kennedy side of the family : ) Kinda cool we have a straight-haired gal, and a curly-haired gal. I love discovering their differences and similarities. Continue »

Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this... Continue »

Here are three Star Trek-themed things that have come up recently. All of them made me laugh so hard I pooped a little, so they need to be preserved here for the ages. Continue »

Many people keep mentioning that Aila looks a lot like me, while Tesla is more daddy-ish. I see both of us in both girls, but there are certain looks from Aila that remind me of my baby pics. My mom kindly scanned some of me, in Japan, around the same age as Aila. What do you think? Here is Aila. Here is me: Isn't my mom pretty? And my brother, about 4.5 years old here, adorable. : ) These last 2 pics are of my Obaachan and Ojiichan. It's hard to see me, but since they passed away recently, I... Continue »

Had Aila's check-up yesterday, and she is a growing 10 lb healthy gal. No longer the newborn with a round belly and skinny legs, she's got cute rolls developing and a nice double chin. Round cheeks too. She is smiling more at us, and cooing. Cute to watch her begin to communicate. I am thoroughly enjoying her every movement. She still prefers to be cuddled so I walk around with her snuggled up in the moby around me. She sleeps in our bed...while Dav sleeps on the sofa to catch quality zzzzzs...and I relish my snuggle time with her, wrapping... Continue »

During the Twitter Town Hall collaboration with the White House, President Obama posted a single tweet to @whitehouse, asking this question: This was historic for two reasons: it was the first time that a President has ever posted directly to a social network from the White House. Second, it was the first time the President's directly asked for feedback from users of a social network. There was some great analysis of the Twitter Town Hall activity, including TwitSprout's infographics and Radian6's detailed postmortem on Wednesday. Both focused on the #askobama questions that were asked before and during the Town Hall.... Continue »
