Aila is a Scottish name meaning "from a strong place" which is all the more apt since not only is she 50% Scottish, but after the delivery, we felt this name represented her. "Ai" also means love in Japanese so is just perfect. Plus, I like that the ending "la" matches Tesla : ) Many thanks to wonderful Michelle who graciously designed this delicate card that fits what we feel is Aila's personality so far. Continue »

How have blogs changed, and what's there to miss about them? [fluffy just wrote][fluffy] some good thoughts that dovetail with a project I'd like to work on, so I thought I'd respond at a little more length. ### The current impasse ### Why does no one offer modern blogging with... Continue »

My husband and I have this ongoing argument that probably will continue until there is no Internet. Basically, "one" of us thinks that posting items to one's blog is a perfectly acceptable mode of sharing what one is doing and/or... Continue »

My use of the word 'done' has changed a bit since moving into this old farmhouse of ours just two months ago. I had thought I'd share this space with you when it was 'done'. Ahem. But 'done' originally meant... Continue »

I stumbled upon these documentary videos from a link via Joi Ito whose sister, Mizuko, appears in a segment. I ended up watching them all - stories about how California's economy is affecting people. Luckily, Dav's and my life have not changed with this economy, and we work in the tech industry that is pretty much booming. I sometimes feel this is luck and timing, so my heart goes out to those who are struggling. It's hard to comprehend how we can carry on as usual in our S.F. life while the fabric of society is unraveling elsewhere. Not sure... Continue »

I have several updates but letting them bake before I share them just yet. Quite a few exciting changes on the horizon, and I've been focusing on those. One thing I do know is that Tesla and I will be heading to Tokyo for a good chunk of December. While she'll be out of school, the plan is to immerse her in Japanese, and have general Tokyo fun. It's been long since I've been back, so I'm really looking forward to this. And it'll be more than my usual business trip week, so I can really relax and enjoy. p.s.... Continue »

T's preschool did their annual Halloween parade through Japantown, visiting a retirement home, delighting the elders living there. T's group made Muni Trains, complete with Muni hats and a pass. OMG, all of them together was so cute!! Later this evening is the preschool haunted house (I'm working there this year ...as a zombie. So excited). Dav will take T as a spider (I'm rather pleased how it came out). Tomorrow is the Regenbogen's famous Haunted House, then Sunday is the real deal. This the best Halloween weekend, and I'm totally getting into costume for this one! Have a great... Continue »
