A month or so ago beloved game designer Keita Takahashi announced that he was leaving Namco Bandai to pursue projects of his own, a departure which many saw as a very great thing. Having expressed interest in working with other developers and continuing his efforts to design playgrounds, yesterday it... Continue »

Six Apart acquired by VideoEgg. End of an era since I've been with 6A pretty much since the beginning, working in that old dental office, hammering away on emails seated between the CEO and President. We used to all go to lunch together way back then. I got married and had a daughter while at 6A. I got to be totally open about who I am (i.e. a Burner), and got to work closely with Tokyo, my home. It's a new chapter, and this makes sense in many ways. But this is a biggie...no more "Six Apart" where we called... Continue »

OK, so maybe we sent one of our remote employees - let's call him Hippy McNeckbeard - a replacement laptop with some extraneous equipment included in the box. And by "extraneous" I mean a half-eaten chocolate candy bar, some floppy disks, a postcard of Prince William, an inappropriately adorable background image, CDs with drivers for items you would only find in an antique store, a 2008 SF Giants calendar, and various other useless items. Now, I.T. professionals know that remote employees are a special challenge. These employees are usually very smart, but far too ugly to have in the general... Continue »

I didn't go last year, and that break was good. I am going on new terms vs. going as an annual habit. Tesla is coming - her 3rd year, but 1st as one with her own thoughts and opinions. I am very excited to share this with her, even though I am fully prepared for her to form her own opinion, positive or negative. She may not like it. I've made contacts at Kidsville to have tons of playmates, I've made from scratch a Tinker Bell outfit, we all have a superman outfit for a mass gathering I thought she... Continue »

The day Rachel and fam left to go home, my folks arrived from Tokyo. A bit busy getting things prepped, but it all worked fine. I was practically giddy picking my parents up at the airport. Once home, we had lunch in the neighborhood, then later all together went to pick up Tesla at preschool. She was so happy, and over the next days, everyday, had her entourage to drop her off then pick her up at school. Delighted girl she was, and I was so touched at how Tesla loved having her grandparents around. ↓ Tesla posing with my... Continue »

Is it hubris to call this a perfect pie dough recipe? Well, it is perfect. And do you know what's perfect about it? You can do it too. Yes, YOU. I don't care what kind of sordid, tragic past you've had with other pie dough recipes. You can forget it all and start anew with this one. It will become your One Pie Dough to Rule Them All: pies, tarts, galettes, pop-tarts, you name it. It will be the easiest and most forgiving dough you've ever handled. It will be flaky and tender, yet somehow possess the strength of character not to crumble under pressure like other wimpy doughs. Your slice of pie or galette will stay beautifully in tact to serve, only to surrender into tender, flaky, buttery, delicious crumbs as you bite into it. Forget all the pernickety details everyone tells you about how to make a pie dough. You won't need to keep all the ingredients at precisely five degrees below zero. You need not coddle it like a new born kitten. You'll put on your fiercest dominatrix attitude and you shall beat this dough into submission. And, yes, it will like it too. No, there's no...
