They don't make immigrants like they used to. Note how he and his brethren strove to become more American than Americans. And not only did they learn English, but they lovingly picked up everday American slang to integrate into their songs.
The fact that Berlin, a Jew, could write the standard "White Christmas" (I believe the best selling song in history) shows that comfort that a non-Christian could feel WITHIN the Judeo-Christian culture that is (or at least WAS) America.
