I guess it depends largely on how much of the first two games was Lackey and Weaver raising their game in the postseason and how much was the Red Sox just failing on offense. I suspect it was a little of both. Anyway, we completely deserved to lose. And the Angels/Yanks series is, unfortunately, one of those times I just want everyone involved to explode. I guess I'll sort of root for the Angels? Ugh.

0-2, 2 outs, nobody on, #9 hitter at the plate. And he blows a 2-run lead. Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. I'm sure I'll calm down eventually, but right now I want that piece of shit traded for a bag of balls. What a gutless choke job.

Paul's doing an admirable job holding up the 'JD Drew is good' argument, so I'll leave that to him. My big takeaway from this article is "wow, I am so glad that Theo's our GM" - to have a GM say, in public, that they don't care about RBIs, that not making outs is the most important stat, and that reporters who focus on the former rather than the latter is flatly wrong is a great thing to see.

Low, Paul. Very low. But it would be fantastic, wouldn't it?

The King Felix rumors are mean. I want them so badly to be true and there's no way it will actually happen. :(

If neither Bard nor Buchholz are in, that says Bowden to me. I am fine with that.

If this is for Buchholz, it's a terrible deal and I'm incredibly disappointed in Theo. If we were giving up Clay it needed to be as part of a package to acquire Halladay or Gonzalez or someone a lot better than Victor Martinez.

Andrew: yeah, that was pretty much my thought. "Oh come on, if they were willing to take BETANCOURT, surely Theo could have foisted Lugo off on them."

Well, I'm happy the Angels beat the Yanks, but the rest of the time I can pretty much agree with all my Yanks-fan friends that the Angels are our least-favorite non-rival team in the AL. What a horribly frustrating team to play.

Can we get an investigation into why the bullpen hates John Smoltz?

I honestly think Paps is our secret playoff weakness this year. I'm just waiting for the huge meltdown in the big spot - he's really, really not the same pitcher he was.

Man, the Yankees have been weird this year - mediocre, best team in baseball, mediocre, best team in baseball. Hopefully Toronto can hold on here and send the Yanks back to another period of 'mediocre.' :P

THE LARGE FATHER IS BACK!

The real subplot to this game, as far as I'm concerned, is the battle between Joba's tendency to throw a million pitches and Frenchy's desire to live up to the Greg Maddux ideal of '27 pitches, 27 outs.'

NATSTOWN! I feel good about Lester today. Hopefully he doesn't prove me wrong.

Oh, silly me, I was looking at a stats page that hadn't updated yet. Awesome.

David Ortiz BA: .213 Alex Rodriguez BA: .213 Yeah, A-Rod's OBP is a lot higher, but Ortiz is the one trending up! Good times, good times.

To be fair, we have quite the history with Ortiz and owe him a lot (whereas this is Tex's first season in NY). I do remember Jeter getting booed, briefly, when he was going through that slump. That one always shocked me - I figured the two truly bulletproof Yankees were Mo and Captain Clutch.

Bullshit strike zone is irrelevant to the great Oki! One down.

Now THAT is a quality start. 111 pitches, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 11 strikeouts - including 10 of the last 12 hitters.

Struck out the side TWICE IN A ROW. I love this.

And Lester strikes out the side. His ERA's under 5, let's hope it stays there. Good to have the real Lester back.
