Harrison, NJ-- The New York Red Bulls finally put together a dominating win that is expected of the star-laden franchise, pushing them from the brink of missing the playoffs to looking like a team capable of making noise in the post-season. Luke Rodgers and Thierry Henry tallied goals in New York's 2-0 win over a Los Angeles Galaxy squad without it's own stars of Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane. The victory moved the Red Bulls into a tie for fourth place in the East, and a tie for ninth place overall with Houston. Continue reading

HARRISON, N.J. -- The New York Red Bulls are a sinking ship. New York, after a gutsy win in Dallas on Saturday, had a chance to strengthen its playoff hold. Real Salt Lake was without suspended midfield rock Kyle Beckerman and traveled cross country after a hard-fought win against Sporting KC. But any doubt that RSL would collect their fifth win a row was erased almost immediately. RSL scored three goals in the opening 21 minutes to roll to a 3-1 victory and deal a heavy blow to the Red Bulls' postseason hopes. In the eighth minute, Andy Williams spun a perfect corner to the head of Alvaro Saborio. The Costa Rican Designated Player beat Teemu Tainio to the ball and finished for the early 1-0 lead. The New York Red Bulls couldn't muster more than a point against the last place Vancouver Whitecaps in a virtual must-win. Down a goal and a man, Juan Agudelo came to the rescue with a crucial goal in the 68th minute. Rafa Marquez played a long 30-yard cross into the box that found a streaking Agudelo. The U.S. international burst past John Thorrington and volleyed home the equalizer. Continue reading

Another game, another draw for the New York Red Bulls. After not winning a game since July 6th, the Red Bulls desperately needed three points to stay in the increasingly crowded Eastern Conference playoff picture. A match against the last place Chicago Fire seemingly was that game, but New York let an opportunity and an early lead slip away once again. The Red Bulls were actually down in the second half, but a Joel Lindpere goal saved at least a point for the star-studded Red Bulls. Juan Agudelo headed down a long ball to Lindpere. The Estonian played Richards out wide and the Jamiacan sent a low, driving cross to Lindpere who volleyed the ball past Johnson in the 65th minute. "It's pretty frustrating just to have so many chances and to play such good football and not come out with three points that we've been looking for the past month," said Red Bulls sub Juan Agudelo. After a miserable May and June that included just one win, the New York Red Bulls showed what they can do with a nearly full-strength side. The Red Bulls overcame a promising start from Toronto FC before finding a good attacking rhythm and dismantling the visitors from Canada in a 5-0 dismantling on Wednesday night. Thierry Henry and Luke Rodgers each scored in their return to the lineup, while Joel Lindpere continued his hot play with the third goal of the match and assists on both of Juan Agudelo's match-concluding goals. It was a six minute highlight show as Colorado and New York went blow for blow, scoring four goals in rapid succession. The blitz started with a Larentowicz penalty and concluded with a Luke Rodgers class finish. Those six minutes ended the scoring in the match as Colorado and New York ended in a 2-2 tie. Luke Rodgers capped off the first-half wild west shootout with a flick just over the reach of Rapids' keeper Matt Pickens. Roy Miller chipped a ball at the corner of the penalty area and Rodgers outran Marvell Wynne to get the touch in front of the oncoming Pickens. Continue reading

By MIKE NASTRI New York Red Bulls coach Hans Backe said during the week that Sunday's match vs. Chivas USA could be a trap game for the Eastern Conference leaders. And that's exactly what it was. Justin Braun's hat trick was just enough for Chivas USA to slip by New York, 3-2, at Red Bull Arena on Sunday. Braun's player-of-the-week performance came in his first start of the season for the Goats. "I hadn't scored until this game this year," said Braun. "I kind have been struggling a little bit. I think it was a coming out game for me.... Continue reading

Luke Rodgers scored twice, breaking the New York Red Bulls' 135-minute scoreless streak to power New York past the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-0, in the pouring rain at Red Bull Arena. Thierry Henry finally got on the scoresheet to break his scoring drought. Henry had a few chances off the foot of Rodgers, but he couldn't convert until the 87th minute. Rodgers sent a curling cross from the right corner of the box to find a streaking Henry. The Designated Player buried the header in the right corner of the goal for Red Bulls' final goal.
