95-67. NL East Pennant. NL Pennant. Beat the Red Sox in 7 games.
Community call for 2011 Phillies season predictions
It's that time again. It's the eve of Opening Day, which means it's time to ask readers where they see the Phillies in seven months. Provide us with your final regular-season record, NL East standing and playoff status in the comments thread below. Tomorrow, I’ll tally the results and reveal ...
The Brewers rotation will be tough -- Gallardo, Greinke, and Marcum would be a tough three game series. The NL Central should be a knife fight between the Brewers and Reds.*
* Great threads on here lately. Unfortunately, for some time I haven't had the time to engage in debates as I used to, but JW and the commenters here still make this the go to place for Phillies commentary. Happy holidays to all.
Winter league update: Valle catches fire in Mexico
Sebastian Valle, rated as the sixth-best prospect in the Phillies chain by Baseball America last week, is on a tear in the Mexican Winter League. Over his last four games, the 20-year-old backstop is 8-for-16 with four homers and 10 RBIs. The Los Mochis native is slugging .504 this winter foll...
Bed Beard: Or like on Arrested Development, the Bluth family's boat was called "The Sea Word."
Minor moves: Garcia, De Fratus, Schwimer promoted
Second baseman Harold Garcia broke the Florida State League hitting streak record earlier this week. Justin De Fratus was Clearwater's closer. Reliever Michael Schwimer moves from Reading to Triple-A. Garcia, 23, was hitting .355/.397/.492 with three homers, 32 RBIs and 17 steals and set the ...

MLB: I am no Wheeler fan, but I refuse to enrich Randy J. Miller by one penny. He's a clown who constantly tries to inject himself into stories rather than write about his subjects. Maybe I'll get the book from the library.

Ted: So you are taking the word of Randy Miller? The guy who badmouthed Harry for years and then did a book signing on the grave? Really? Individual mileage may vary, I guess.
mwbbfan: Um, okay, so then what is your excuse for Zagurski on Sunday? Look, I want to pull for Zagurski, I really do. But it's about results and he isn't getting it done.
Offense: Yes, the offense needs to step up. First thing I would do, after trading for a 2B/3B/(SS?) bat, is split Rollins and Victorino up in the lineup. When they're well they're hell at the plate, but when Victorino is pulling off everything it makes for a lot of missed opportunities up at the top of the order. Jimmy at least looks like he has a clue at the plate at the moment.

clout: well, the bullpen is further hamstrung by having Herndon and Zagurski out there throwing meaningful innings. Zagurski is looking like a BLOOGY (Bad Lefthanded One Out Guy) and Herndon needs to develop a phantom blister whenever Madson is ready. Madson and Bastardo would be a quantum upgrade. Baez should be a garbage time guy right now.

holes in his game? No such thing to most here NEPP. According to most here there is just a glory hole of adulation that the Prince gets, more often than not deserved, but sometimes not.
CJ: I agree. His arm strength is there, but his command and control isn't.
Phillies need to think beyond the band-aid
Some of the Phillies' best deadline and after-deadline moves have been for players who could help them for multiple seasons, something the Phils should consider as they hunt for Chase Utley’s replacement. There is a school of thought that says Utley’s thumb injury could turn into a blessing in d...
Well, I guess JA isn't ready for prime time. He was activated and sent to AAA according to CBS Sportsline.

clout: Yes, I also wonder what the possible difference could be.
Schweitzer and Ak(ili)Smith's commentary of late, along with the constant European Vacation Audrey-like "I miss Cliff!" refrain have made the comments section on this site near unreadable for at least a week.
Tuesday: Halladay halfway to 20 at season's midpoint
Pitching with a fighter's intensity, Roy Halladay (10-7) mopped the floor with the division leaders in a complete-game, 3-1 win Monday night. (Getty) To think where he'd be with more run support. Que sera sera. Actually, there's no time like the 81st game to leave all the first-half baggage b...
so we would have traded Michael Taylor for a 1B? We seem to have that right now. Brett Wallace can't play 3B. So can I extrapolate from this you want Big Piece gone, too?
Friday: Phillies in limbo, looking to thumb a ride
In the words of Willie Nelson, the Phillies are going places they've never been, and seein' things they may never see again. Like a band of gypsies, the Phillies are goin' on down the highway. Where will they hitch the wagon? To the pitching? The offense routinely cancels out quality starts. A...
This whole thread reads like the How I Met Your Mother episodes where Ted's pretentious ex-gf Karen comes to town. RAJ needs to get some reinforcements or somethings gotta give! If I read one more deconstruction of the Cliff Lee trade I am going to cyber-choke someone out....

I was going to make a Jesse James joke here, but then I decided against it.
Black-and-blue Tuesday: Utley, Polanco land on DL
The momentum the Phillies had hoped to carry over from a solid run in interleague play has come to a screeching halt as Chase Utley and Placido Polanco, the Phillies’ 2-3 hitters, will go on the disabled list, as feared. Utley's injury appears to be a sprain, according to CSNPhilly's Jim Sali...

"And so it was... the Phillies began their quest to finally determine if the saying "As Jimmy goes, so do the Phils" carries as much weight as has been prophesied.

the Phillies needed a bench upgrade before these injuries, so if RAJ doesn't trade for someone like Wigginton now then he's sending a message to the team.

thanks Scott. I was sitting in Section 143 and didn't have a good line of sight on the final landing spot of JT's crush.
Sunday chat: Halladay hoping to sire a series win
The Phillies should be going for the sweep this Father's Day, but will need to settle for 2-out-of-3 as long as Roy Halladay (8-5, 2.36) can get it done against Carl Pavano (7-6, 3.92) and the Twins. First pitch is 1:35 p.m. More from yesterday: Many of us are still in shock from yesterday's ...
Thome's moonshot was over the batters eye. Ibanez's HR hit the back railing in the Section 101 seats and ricocheted into the Twins bullpen.
