In Which We Give One Lucky Reader A La-Z-Boy Power Recline XR
A few weeks ago, the good people at La-Z-Boy asked me if I'd like one of these to review and give away: Why yes, I said. Yes I would. This is the La-Z-Boy Cole Power Recline XR Reclina-Rocker Recliner. It is a power recliner; that is to say, you plug it in, and use the remote to adjust it to...

Wake me up when September ends
I never thought this time would come. Here it is, the end of August - nearly eight months after I arrived in this country. Tempus fugit? Not hardly. More like tempus fu*kit. Thank God there's a light at the end... Continue reading

Comfortable with the Uncomfortable
I apologize that it's been well over a month since I last posted here. I was inspired for a while and then I was attacked by a rogue band of ennuis. After being coaxed into writing for my unit's newsletter... Continue reading

Perspective Is Relative
I know I've promised you all a post telling you all about the guys I'm serving with while here in Afcrapistan Afghanistan, but I want to get this quick post out there while it's still fresh for me. Everybody who... Continue reading

Shoobie Doobie Do FOB
Holy hell has it been cold. From the day we arrived nearly two months ago, the temps on this FOB (which is 3,000 ft higher than Denver) have barely crept into the high teens - pre-dawn temps above 5 degrees Fahrenheit were luxurious. Wake-ups were especially difficult: get dressed and run to the...

FOB Life, Everybody Needs a Thrill
I wake sometimes in the middle of the night (during those oh-dark-early hours of the morning) unsure of where I am. Confused, I reach out expecting to find my wife or one of the kids but my hand only swipes... Continue reading

So, how is everyone? I must admit that my posting around these parts has been seriously lacking for some time. And by lacking I mean wholly non-existent, as in it's been so long I forgot my password today. Step #1... Continue reading

Stifler's List; Or, How Lacrosse Became My Latest Obsession
"Soft hands", I told my son. "Remember what the guy in the video said? Soft hands." I know how that sounds. But this is lacrosse we're talking about, a sport that manages to be both extremely silly and extremely badass at the same time. I've never played lacrosse, have only watched it a handf...
I played three years in college and coached high school for two years. It is a very badass sport. Violence with grace. Nice to see you and Lucas pickin' it up.

I feel like I'm sitting at my own roast. I appreciate all the warm comments and wit (no, not you Whit) as you accurately make the case for why I should win this fine award. I was coming to make it on my own, but you have all done it so eloquently, that anything I add might detract from your wonderful comments. I thank you all for your kind words. Commenting on all your comments about me is very meta - but somehow appropriate when we're talking about me, the Best Dadblogger of All Time Ever.
Also, I believe that I am the only one here to have actually met TwoBusy. Could someone please send me M&M's and a trophy just for that? Thanks
DadCentric's Best Dadblogger Of All Time Ever Contest!
"Best Of" contests are a tricky thing. Some say that only experts should be the judges, that the public simply lacks the necessary gifts of discernment and good taste required to determine which chef, author, writer, director, or star should be nominated for a Grand Prize. Others say that the ...

Sean Connery and Romeo Void taught me something a long time ago: Never Say Never. Well, in Sean's case it was Never Say Never Again, but you get the point. You're smart. I think I need to clarify a bit... Continue reading
