Getting hot at just the right time, these guys could be dangerous if they play well enough to make the playoffs.
Fire end Rapids nine-game unbeaten streak
BY ANTHONY ZILIS Last week, the Fire ended a 10-game winless streak by beating Toronto FC 2-0. This week, they showed it was no fluke, beating the defending MLS Cup champion Colorado Rapids 2-0 at Toyota Park. “We’ve got a lot of great players, I think we’re finally jelling as a team. I...
I agree with Donovan on the wing. Hasn't Bedoya been playing centrally for his club this year? Maybe try giving him the keys, since SK wasn't getting it done.
Adu delivers for USMNT after two-year absence
By FRANCO PANIZO HOUSTON, Texas - Freddy Adu won't take it for granted. Not anymore. After a near two-year hiatus, Adu made his return to the U.S. men's national team as second-half substitute in its Gold Cup semifinals match against Panama on Wednesday night at Reliant Stadium. It was the f...
I was at this game and it was painful to watch. Chicago desperately needs an offensive spark. As much crap as people used to talk about Blanco, I am beginning to think that back to back conference finals trips had a lot more to do with him and Rolfe than any Hamlett influence.
Also, I feel bad for RSL fans. That team looked like a shell of its former self and I can't imagine how devastating it was to watch Morales get chopped down and pretty much ruin their season. I think the guy that was responsible for that injury should have to sit out the entire year, as well.
Offensive struggles continue for RSL, Chicago in scoreless draw
By ANTHONY ZILIS CHICAGO -- It’s just been that kind of week for Real Salt Lake. Jean Alexandre was suspended early in the week for a tackle in Salt Lake’s game against D.C. United last weekend, leaving Fabian Espindola as the only Salt Lake forward with a start under his belt for Wednesday’...
I hope these guys find a couple of doctors on their trips to help them pull their heads out of their own arses. If they play as poorly against Jamaica as they did against Guadalupe, I think the US will lose. That makes me a sad panda.
Report: Dempsey, Donovan missing Gold Cup training to attend family weddings
Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey will be major keys to the U.S. national team's chances of beating Jamaica in Sunday's CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals, but both will be missing preparations for that match to attend family weddings. As first reported by the Washington Post, Donovan and Dempse...
I think De Los Cobos had better start guiding his team to earning some points if he plans to remain gainfully employed with the Chicago Fire. Starting a somewhat attack minded mid in Baggio or the Bone Zone is a good start. I certainly hope all the Fire need are some lineup tweaks to right the ship, but I'm not holding my breath.
MLS Week 6: A Look Ahead
By THOMAS FLOYD Although Real Salt Lake has done more than enough amid its MLS and CONCACAF Champions League conquests to establish itself as the team to beat in the Western Conference, sorting through the tier below is a trickier proposition. This weekend's slate of MLS action should help cla...
How much more of a a-hole does this make Oduro for trying to force the guy up during the game? I was slightly amused by the ametuerish tactic when it occurred, but now I just feel bad for the guy. Knee injuries and injuries of any sort suck. Wishing him a speedy recovery!
Galaxy defender Leonardo out for season
Photo by David Bernal/ISIphotos.com Los Angeles Galaxy centerback Leonardo will be out for the season after tearing the ACL and LCL in his right knee in the waning moments of the Galaxy's victory over the Chicago Fire on Sunday. Leonardo, who had filled in admirably for injured centerback Greg...

Feilhaber coming to MLS
Photo by Howard C. Smith/ISIphotos.com Major League Soccer's transfer deadline day has its long-awaited major splash. According to his agent, Benny Feilhaber has signed with MLS and will be leaving AGF Aarhus in Denmark, where he has played since 2008. The representative for the U.S. men's nat...
I'm very scared that LA will start its 3rd string midfield and the Fire will still lose the possession battle!
MLS Ticker: Dynamo signs Koke and Watson, Donovan 'day-to-day' and more
By CALEB SONNELAND The Houston Dynamo bolstered its attacking corps with the acquisitions of Spanish striker Sergio Koke and Jamaican midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson on the final day before the early transfer window closes. Koke joins the club from Greek outfit Aris, where the forward netted 38 ...

Eastern Conference notes: Henry hurt again, Davies poised for first start & more
Photo by Howard C. Smith/ISIphotos.com By THOMAS FLOYD The increasingly prominent fear among New York Red Bulls supporters that Thierry Henry's tenure in the Big Apple will ultimately end up being an injury-laden bust was given a little more credence Tuesday when coach Hans Backe told the New...
In a less smarmy light, it will be interesting to see if these guys can gel into a good team, not just a collection of talent.
Are the Red Bulls the team to beat now?
Today's blockbuster trade sending Dwayne DeRosario to the New York Red Bulls just gave one of the best teams in MLS ANOTHER star player and has fans in New York talking MLS Cup. Just how good is New York now? Here's how the starting lineup looks like now: Yes, Greg Sutton started the seaso...
NYRB is still only going to be allowed to play with one ball, right?

I think the best thing to do is forget about "the Charlie of old" and be pleasantly surprised by anything CD can offer at this point. I will be the first to say congratulations when CD9 can make it back into the national team picture, but trying to hold him up to standards he established before all that happened to him is unfair.
Davies ready to complete long road back
Photo by Tony Quinn/ISIphotos.com By AVI CREDITOR The bone-chilling details of Charlie Davies' story have been rehashed, dissected and analyzed on television and radio shows, in newspapers and all over the Internet. Fans fumed when he was left off the United States national team roster for ...

MLS Ticker: SKC signs homegrown player, Fire add striker and more
Sporting Kansas City signed its second homegrown player on Friday, adding 19-year-old defender Kevin Ellis to the team's roster. Ellis joins United States youth national team goalkeeper Jon Kempin as the homegrown players in Kansas City. He played at Barton County Community College for the las...
I hope this works out incredibly well for Mr. Davies. I also hope it serves as an eye-opener to other US players struggling for playing time abroad.
Davies' wait for first-team action ends with loan from Sochaux to D.C. United
Photo by Ben Keller/D.C. United By AVI CREDITOR WASHINGTON - After every demotion to the FC Sochaux reserves, Charlie Davies' patience was wearing thinner and thinner. Despite regaining health in a relatively miraculous period of time considering the severity of his injuries, Davies' light at ...
Jack and I are overhyping him! Join in, it's fun for all ages! I'm hoping to gain street cred as the original driver of the Timothy Chandler bandwagon when he scores a hat trick in the next World Cup.
Americans Abroad: Weekend Rewind
By FRANCO PANIZO A month ago, three young Americans found themselves glued to the bench of their respective clubs, which ultimately helped facilitate loan moves as they searched for more playing time. Those three Americans made their debuts this weekend. Michael Bradley, Eric Lichaj and Jozy A...

Ives, do you have any insight into Uruguayan striker Gaston Puerari that the Fire just signed? His strike rate is pretty good, but doesn't exactly get the heart racing. I think he is only 25, so hopefully his career is arcing upward. How does the league he played in previouly compare to MLS? Any clues to the identity of the 2nd international player the Fire are targeting?
Thursday Kickoff: Davies joins D.C. camp, Anelka rumor resurfaces, and more
Charlie Davies' quest to return to the Charlie Davies of old has taken him to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he began his one-week evaluation by D.C. United today. Davies could see action on Friday when D.C. United plays its first intra-squad scrimmage of the camp. With his paperwork comin...
What the hell are the Fire going to do with another young goalkeeper? They must really, really be down on Dykstra. How does this affect future lottery chances? Do the teams that opt out get improved odds on the next lottery?
Five teams opt out of Bingham lottery
Photos by ISIphotos.com And then there were 13. Sporting Kansas City, Chivas USA, D.C. United, the Houston Dynamo and Philadelphia Union have all opted out of Wednesday afternoon's lottery for the rights to Generation adidas goalkeeper David Bingham, leaving 13 teams vying for his services. Th...
You mean the type of money that will bankrupt a WPS team? I think she's going to go 3 for 3 after this season. Impressive.
Wednesday Kickoff: Knighton waived, Dynamo delay groundbreaking and more
Photo by Howard C. Smith/ISIphotos.com By AVI CREDITOR The Philadelphia Union's goalkeeping corps is down to a 39-year-old veteran and a 19-year-old rookie. The team elected to waive Brad Knighton Tuesday, parting ways with the 25-year-old netminder who started eight games in the club's inaugu...

Qatar to host 2022 World Cup
Qatar has been chosen to host the 2022 World Cup. The middle Eastern nation beat out the United States among others for the bid. My early take on this decision? FIFA can't be serious can it? Qatar was favored for some time by bookmakers and it's clear they knew something. The USA bid for 202...
You're dreaming. I don't think the US gets the World Cup in any of those years, unless USA Soccer gets a sugar daddy that is not adverse to handing out cash with a smile.

FIFA would have made boatloads of money in 12 years if the US won. Every voter got RICHER when Qatar won right now, not in 12 years. These guys don't care about FIFA making money, they care about themselves making money.

By JOHN BOSCHINI The United States' youth system received an unexpected boost with the news that Bayen Munich and German U17 standout Fabian Hurzeler will join the USA's U20 squad. According to Yanks Abroad, U.S. U20 coach Thomas Rongen said that Hurzeler will join the team during its January ...
Castillo is terrible. His unibrow is also terrible. I thought McBride was going to literally murder him on the field last night for lack of effort and general stupidity. He looks awful. It is embarassing that DLC keeps putting him on the field. I agree with previous comments. The Fire need to make some big time changes.
Wizards top Fire to keep playoff hopes alive
The Kansas City Wizards haven't given up hope just yet. Needing to win their final three games and have Colorado lose its final two games, the Wizards took the first step toward making that improbable scenario take place with a 2-0 victory against the Chicago Fire on Tuesday night. The win mo...
