As an avid Texas A&M fan, I love Tannehill, but the reality is he's not 1st round talent. Maybe 2nd round and definitely 3rd, but not 1st. This is what happens when you have teams absolutely desperate for a quarterback. Players like Tannehill are taken much higher due to the demand for their position. I'll be upset if the Dolphins take him at 8, and absolutely livid if they trade up for him.
Would Dolphins trade up for Tannehill?
Talk around the hallways of the Breakers Hotel during the NFL annual meeting this week included whispers of the Cleveland Browns wanting to trade down from their perch at No. 4 in the coming NFL draft. That talk was confirmed when Cleveland general manager Tom Heckert, a former Dolphins personne...
Sounds to me like someone's waiting to see if Chicago lets go of their head coach once their GM situation is resolved.
Jeff Fisher: Decision next week
Jeff Fisher is done with his initial meetings with the Dolphins and St. Louis Rams and he will decide between the two next week, according to ESPN. Fisher apparently said idependently or told the network he won't decide between the two teams until next week, which suggests he'll take the weekend...
Um, Mando, as a Texas A&M fan, I'd like to inform you that you might want to look at the Aggies' 2011 season before you go suggesting we consider Sherman. Pretty sure we had several second half debacles that were the driving force to his firing this year. Yes, firing. Mike Shermann was fired at the college level because he couldn't properly hold onto multiple double digit leads in the second half of games. You brought up a point in one of your recent posts about how quickly teams adjust, mentioning college teams adjust in the second half...you were right, because all of them sure as hell adjusted to Sherman and the Aggies. What does that tell you that he couldn't stop it? I'll pass on him, thank you.
Good, experienced coaches NOT in short supply
The Dolphins aren't just sitting around waiting for Jeff Fisher to say yes or no. They have interviews planned Friday and Saturday. As the search has developed it has become obvious the Dolphins are reaching for the biggest-name, most experienced coaches first -- with a failed attempt at Jon Gru...
That is horrible! What is so difficult about taking our current logo, keeping the same font, and changing the "F" to a "M"? And keep the same Marlin and color scheme you dolts! Never buying another piece of gear if this is our new logo.
New Marlins Logo?
Check out this logo, which has been floating around on the internet and is rumored to be the Miami Marlins' new logo. It certainly contains all the colors that the team has been using lately in promotional material. "Official unveiling 11/11 (Nov. 11)," texted Marlins president Davi...

Debunking the myth of OL position flexibility
For several years now, since Bill Parcells-Jeff Ireland-Tony Sparano took control in Miami, we've heard the term "position flexibility" mentioned time and again as an asset, indeed a necessity, for Dolphins offensive linemen. I suspect you'll hear the term more in the coming months based on the ...
Please Patriots...do us all a favor and shut them up.
AFC East playoffs live blog today from Foxborough
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- It is cold. There is fallen snow on the ground. And playoff football is in the air. As in years past, The Miami Herald will be at the NFL playoffs watching other teams play while the Dolphins ... ... Well, they're watching just like you and me. Actually, I'm closer to being ...
DC...few exceptions aside, drafting premium talent takes premium positioning...like a top ten pick. How many times under Ireland have we had a top ten pick? I think they've done a good job drafting...not excellent, but good. And even a top ten pick isn't guaranteed, but you probably have smaller chance of failing than at picks eleven through thirty-two.
Dolphins address offense but try not to wreck model
The Dolphins have asked and received permission to interview Chargers tight end coach Rob Chudzinski for their vacant offensive coordinator job, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune and that could be the first of a slate of interviews coming in the next couple of days. The Dolphins have cert...
Hey Craig...from what I've been hearing, although Luck still has two years of eligibility left, he's scheduled to finish his architectural degree in the spring of 2012, so unless something changes, it looks like he has just one more season of college ball left.
Put me down as another one hoping we don't take a QB at 15. I just don't see any of the guys who will more than likely still be available at 15 worth taking at that spot. I'm a big believer in taking the best available player (while still weighing the needs of the team). Can't wait to hear what Mike Mayock has to say...

Thanks Bobby...you, Craig M, NYScott (where is he by the way), and a small handful of others are the reason why I still scroll through the comments here.

Just because Jerry Jones happened to be the owner when the Cowboys won their titles doesn't mean he's qualified to be an excellent evaluator of talent. Don't be stupid. When Parcells was their head coach, Jones handed the reigns of player personnel to him...the guys Parcells brought in are the reason why they still have an abundance of talent. Fortunately, they lacked the quality HC to maximize it. After taking over player personnel under Wade Phillips, Jones has now given that power back to their new HC. Why? Because he realizes he's no good at it! The only reason Jones is still their GM is because he's also the owner.

Ross, if your goal is to be the next Al Davis or Jerry Jones, you're off to a great start. By the way, everybody hates Davis and Jones. Let the coaches and players do their jobs and just sign the checks please.

I'm afraid we are witnessing the death of what was once a great franchise. And the killer? Stephen Ross. What respectable coach would want to come to this franchise after his stunts this past week? Welcome to the Oakland Raiders 2.0.
Negotiations with Tony Sparano hit a significant snag
The Dolphins have a coach under contract at this hour. But they don't necessarily have a coach. The negotiations I wrote about in the previous entry on this blog were apparently going fairly well around 3:30 this afternoon when the Dolphins decided to call a media roundtable for 4:45 p.m. to dis...
Yeah, that's why Thigpen stinks...because he couldn't mesh with the starters. That's also why he was 1-12 as a starter prior to this year. There are some geniuses out there who obviously should be our new QB coach.
Blowout underway as fourth quarter begins
The Patriots are beating the Dolphins 38-0. New England backup QB Brian Hoyer threw a 42-yard TD pass in the third quarter. The Dolphins are playing musical chairs with their QB spot, using Tyler Thigpen and Chad Henne and Thigpen and Henne. The live blog continues in the comments section.
I will say this Mando...I agree with you in the sense that 14 years is a long time before winning a Super Bowl, and with today's fans, you no longer last that long as coach for that type of wait...but...prior to that Super Bowl win, he did take the Steelers to four AFC championship games as well as one Super Bowl. The question is, are today's fans patient enough to stick with a coach through those types of losses? Also, he won't have Dick LeBeau.

Pats embarrassing Dolphins 24-0 going to third quarter
Terrible. Just terrible. Tony Sparano has tried everything: He's benched Chad Henne. He's shuttled Brandon Marshall in and out of the lineup. And the Dolphins are responding like losers. They've given up a punt return TD. They've thrown an interception that led to a TD. They've failed to run, fa...
The last team I saw play without heart was the Cowoys. I'm not one for changing complete regimens frequently, but when you have the entire team essentially quitting, something needs to be done.

Anyone who says Thigpen is the answer, clearly didn't watch the Bears game.
Patriots lead Dolphins 14-0 to start second quarter
If you thought the Dolphins were going to come out today breathing fire so their effort could save Tony Sparano's job, you were wrong. If you thought the Patriots were going to come out today and just go through the motions because they have home field advantage locked up, that would also be wro...
This team is just so bad, it's an insult to the Lions and Bills that we actually expected to beat them. How arrogant it was of us to think it incredible we lost to them.
Season finale live blog here
It will likely be the last time Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are in the same backfield. It could be coach Tony Sparano's last game with the Dolphins. It could be general manager Jeff Ireland's last game with the Dolphins. It definitely is the last game the duo represent the Dolphins before Bi...
Before I throw up all over my keyboard Mando, I'd like to thank you for all your hard work this season. I don't know where I'd get my info if it wasn't from you, so thank you. Here's to wishing we get a new OC, QB coach, and make some sort of trade up in the upcoming draft to snag a QB.

Craig M, I agree with you, but you have to consider last year's draft was very deep...this year's draft is projected to be weak at best. If I'm not mistaken, we also lack a 2nd round pick. This means to get the type of offensive help through the draft that we were able to achieve defensively in last year's, we'd have to nail every single pick and pray the talent in the later rounds is starting material. I don't think that's going to happen. What this draft is deep in is quarterback. We either trade up for the guy we want, or concentrate on other areas of weakness and grab someone later and pray that our new OC wakes Henne the hell up. Something scary: the Patriots are rebuilding this year via last years draft, and they are the best in the AFC. They also have two picks in each of the 1st three rounds of the upcoming draft. You're right though...this draft has to be all about offense. Period.
RoboHenne is back and that is not a good thing
One of the things I perceive is a problem with quarterback Chad Henne is his robotic, unfeeling, almost zombie-like approach to playing his position. Henne would never think of calling a freak audible that isn't dictated by the defense or coaching staff. He follows his progression of reads even ...
Mind-numbing stat from Mike Florio: Pittsburgh has more wins in Miami (2) than the Dolphins do (1). If that's not unacceptable on it's own merit, it's HOW the Fins have played for their own home crowd. Makes me want to puke.

Sounds cruel, but that's what they did to us DBs in the high school offseason...that, or they placed us behind the goal post and threw to us. They didn't mess around...you were taught to catch those passes or pay the price.
Bills lead Dolphins 10-7 going to third quarter
I have a problem and it isn't the score of this game right now, which is 10-7 in favor of the Bills. Here's my problem: The Dolphins are in playoff contention. They are aware they must come out breathing a combination of fire and sulfuric acid because, they should know, they are still in playoff...
For the next week, Sean Smith should spend the entire practice having footballs rifled at his nuts...maybe that'll teach him to catch.

Despite their lack of talent, the Bills play with heart, and sometimes, that's enough. Henning absolutely has to go this offseason. After watching that Chicago game, I'd be willing to give Henne multiple shots to learn from his mistakes...Thigpen is awful...but we need to draft a QB this year. This coming year's draft is considered weak to say the least...this would be the year to consider trading up in the first round for a good prospect.
Dolphins and Bills tied at inept (offenses)
The highlight of the first quarter? Kevin Curtis made his Dolphins debut. On his third play he got behind Drayton Florence on a post pattern. He was wide open. Chad Henne overthrew what was a certain TD. And on the next play Henne threw an interception. If you wish to discuss such great defensiv...
Between the Fins, Marlins, and Heat, it sounds to me like Miami has the worst fans in pro sports.
Live blog of Dolphins vs. Bills: All Day!
I was watching the NFL Network this morning and was quite surprised by part of the broadcast which led me to turn it off. The league's media arm was running down the AFC playoff picture, which of course, included the teams leading their divisions, the teams currently in as wildcard teams, and th...
