More on the subject from The Grauniad: "The BBC is caving in to a Tory media policy dictated by Rupert Murdoch; Mark Thompson is jumping from the second storey because he fears a new government may throw him from the roof."

Imagine a radio station that played your favourite music all the time. Not only that, it also introduced you to a whole host of new music, hosted by a range of intelligent, passionate and knowledgeable DJs. Imagine a radio station that plays bands like The Cocteau Twins and The Go-Betweens on ...
What are the people of the nation spending their money on? That's largely what the BRITs tell us. As such it's endlessly fascinating. A bit like my continued amazement that people spend money on The X-Factor's various droids. But there we are.
Thusly, when it comes to music awards ceremonies and nominations:
- The MOJOs/Qs/NMEs/whichever other corporate music mag: what a magazine decides it wants to peddle in the hope of looking like they influence what people are buying
- The Mercurys: what self-appointed guardians of taste think people should be buying if only the people knew about jazz and Gaelic folk instead of Pixie Lott and Taylor Swift
- The BRITS: what people actually are buying. Apart from Susan Boyle.
And there you have it.
BRIT Awards 2010: the nominations
For once we've cast an eye in the direction of that area of music which, for argument's sake, we'll call What Sells. As the awards for the biggest selling artists of the last year were announced at London's O2 Arena, our man Ben Urdang was at the free bar. Here he summarises this year's movers...
Thanks for all the links to Clash (I hope they're paying you).
How about another random preview piece for First Aid Kit's album anyway, on that other site called musicOMH? http://www.musicomh.com/albums/first-aid-kit-2_0110.htm
Done. And on...

BBC Sound Of 2010: The Longlist
It's that time of year again. 15 new acts are named as The Next Big Things by an assortment of DJs, bloggers and editors - including yours truly - that this time totals 165. Yes, the BBC Sound Of 2010 poll longlist is upon us, inevitably kicking off heated debate about the pros and cons of thi...
Oh John.
*adds Daisy Dares You to special playlist for El Murph*
I like HURTS. Which is why they're decorating the home page. Human League + Tears For Fears influences, yes, but there's more to the one song they've unveiled than just '80s throwbackery.
The Drums? Meh.
Ellie FTW.
