Mama, Papa, six littles, homeschooling, cleaning, crafting and eating....constantly!
Interests: hmmmm.... we sew, knit/crochet, quilt, bake, make noise, tell people to be quiet, nature walk, work with glass and clay, make jewelry, love wool (oh, let me count the ways), perform music and theater, make gifts like our lives depend on it, cloth diaper (going on 15 years of it), rearrange furniture (it's a compulsion), paint (walls, paper and canvases...and what ever else we can slap paint onto), homebirth, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, herbal medicine dabbling, gardening, woodwork, barter faire, natural healing, massage, garden, feed slowly and frugally. I will have to stop there as I have fewer brain cells available than I used to and there are two children arguing over a secret birthday present at the dining table and someone tripped over the knitting basket and knocked the needles out of the sweater I've been working on and a naked baby just peed on the floor and the toddler woke up grumpy from his nap.... all in a day round here.

another of Lucy's "paper + plastic recycling bin find + watercolor painting + glue= treats for birds" projects. This time, as we didn't have any birdseed, she grabbed nuts and seeds from the pantry. We'll see how the songbirds like almonds. We've been going on almost daily foraging walks and... Continue reading

the littlest sprouts of last year's gobo burdock in a shallow little pot. Clearly, as their roots get incredibly long, I need to get this puppy in the ground! I was so happy to see it! We harvested oodles of dandelion flowers and leaves from the yard prior to the... Continue reading

Each year, egg decorating gets more and more elaborate. These kids pulled out all the stops this year. We had the favorite sharpie eggs, ribbon wrapped eggs, beaded eggs, crayon eggs for the littles, glitter, stickers. Fortunately they're also old enough to clean up after this mess of a project.... The big weekend of Chloe's play has come and gone. I tell you, those kids really did an awesome job. This show looked pretty rough one week before the show was set to go on (as is always the case with community theater, I tell you), but by opening night... Continue reading

what a week. I've hardly touched this space. I wasn't quite avoiding it, but there's been some ugliness around us. It's going to be ugly here again this week, and I'm not looking forward to it. Needless to say, my children are sweet and lovely and easy to waste a... Continue reading

well, honestly, the poor guy. We keep him around and keep him busy so he feels special. He just keeps showing up. He kinda looks like Sherlock Holmes, now that I look more closely....

Welcome to our new home!!! Like any worthwhile production, it will take us a while to build a set, set the lights and learn our blocking so to speak... Fans of the Willapa Players can join us for little tidbits of what's going on at the Hannan Playhouse. Hope to... Continue reading
hehe, you are funny. I have yet to try it. It might encourage painting the dinner table, too, though!

(terrible photo, my apologies. little people adjusting settings on my camera. This was the sweetest Harry Potter themed gift basket from some little friends. It had some licorice wands, pumpkin pasties and a raven feather writing quill among other little goodies.) (The oldest brother bought her a locket... a cooler,... Continue reading

The joy of mess. It makes a two year old's day (or one and three year olds in this case). I've thought about doing this with food (mashed potatoes or even yams or pea soup) though I'm not sure why. We scored these awesome boardgames at a garage sale for... Continue reading

oooh, I just started another shalom, too. I think this is my fourth- I need to find another compulsive sweater making pattern for myself, methinks. That black yarn is so pretty- it almost looks cottony. is it a blend?

Every year, I forget how much I love spring. I'm pretty happy in any weather. I like snow and rain (fortunately), but I sure do adore the newborn colors of spring and that blossoming sunshine! On the warmest day of the year thus far, the kids wanted to have a... Continue reading

Thane copied down his name all by himself the other day. He was very proud though it's hard to tell from the photo. I think he was going for a serious, scholarly sort of look. I was saving the celery for the soup, so we had ants on a.... rock... Continue reading

This is a favorite around here, and with how well Thane's stomach doesn't do with dairy, he's been convinced that this is ice cream. Freeze some bananas and some chopped watermelon. When you're ready to make the ice cream, let them sit out for a bit so they soften just... Continue reading
