Seems the issue should also be seen from the other side -- those who don't have kids and thus are in a position to work longer hours and/or weekends should have the opportunity to advance faster/further, no? I'm not sure I buy "looked down upon" as some kind of value judgement other than as a very practical matter that parents are, indeed, less available to put in extra effort at work due to their responsibilities as a parent. That a pay gap should appear on average seems wholly sensical given the nature of parenting -- hardly a sign of "discrimination" on face.
