Mom? Dad? ...Uncle Frank?? Is anyone home? This post goes out to all my friends, family and followers that have told me they miss my blog, and all the others that think something horrible happened to me. Or they just assume I'm going through a rough time... They pat me on the shoulder.. You doin okay? Why would you think I'm not okay? Well, you haven't blogged in months dear. OR they'll look off in the distance as if they've lost an old friend at sea: Nestegg..(sigh) (long sip of bourbon)..It was a good one. SO I've learned that nestegg... Continue reading

A home is created over time: layered with stories, precious pieces, memories, and lots of love. Oh yeah, and I want you to read this post not like I'm Puff the Magic Dragon feeding you fluffy, poetic thoughts. But like I'm your friend who's letting you in on the biggest decorating secret behind designing a good home. So listen up. Too often I see people rushing through buying a home, rushing an architect, builder, designer through the process, filling it up, and not being thoughtful with the design process.. We want things instantly. But who can blame us? Siri, find... Continue reading

Aaaaand we're back. If you missed {Take 1} click here. New uses, new looks, in with the old and out with the new.... or something. ?? I found these antique doors at Scotts and thought they'd be perfect for solving the #1 Family Room Dilemma. It was a stroke of luck that the client's TV fit snuggly behind them. Made New: reupholstered in Jim Thompson's Magilan in celadon; frame untouched- loved the finish! *the original fabric was cool but it smelled terrible and was falling apart so it had to go. Bye bye. As you can see I love ottomans... Continue reading

In honor of the New Year I'm dedicating this post to making things new. Whether it's reupholstering an outdated chair, refinishing a frame, or finding a new use for an old piece- it's the best way to add uniqueness to your home. I find it much more exciting than purchasing from a catalog. There are so many I want to share that I had to divide it up into 2 posts. So check back for Part 2. Hopefully this will inspire you to go in your attic, find that old grandma chair and look at it a little differently.Go and... Continue reading

This holiday season I am so very grateful for the hard working team I have at my office. It's amazing the amount of time you spend with the people you work with- and I'm just lucky to have these bright women in my life. I haven't introduced them on the blog yet so I thought I'd include fun facts about each of them as well as things they would like to find in their stocking this year. And it just so happens you can tell alot about someone by looking in their stockings... 1. the blazer 2. the book 3.... Continue reading

Recently TradHome asked for me to be their tour guide through Nashville for a day highlighting my favorite local shops, venues and artisans. After five years of living here I have fallen in love with this city and have found some truly special spots. I was thrilled to get the chance to show them off. What is Tradhome?: TradHome is the fairly new online magazine that is a collaboration between Traditional Home and Lonny. If you like this blog you will love this magazine- trust me. They sent over photographer Colleen Duffley, (that has shot for every cool magazine you... Continue reading

Work life vs Real life. The line tends to get blurry when you love what you do, and you seek that sort of beauty in everyday things. It's why my iphone is a curse. Because I'll find myself editing a picture of pumpkins while walking through the airport. It's obsessive. I get writers block on the blog because I am inspired by so many things I don't know where to begin. Babies being born, weddings,..- ofcourse those are all special. But in terms of design, my passion, I am truly inspired when I travel. This particular weekend the stars aligned... Continue reading

So when we first bought our little cottage I knew a lot of paint would completely restore the curb appeal. Don't get me wrong- some brick is beautiful and I would never paint it. But for me, this brick made the entire yard look dark and bleek. And the contrast of the white trim was taking away from what I loved most about this Tudor style house: the steeply pitched roof, the arched enclosed entry, etc. I wanted to give it a fresh look while still staying true to this 100 year old cottage. So we did just that. Before...... Continue reading

One of my first experiences with long distance clients (true E-design/ without ever seeing the space in person) was a bedroom for twins girls. After having everything delivered and installed a while back I have been anxiously awaiting pictures. Last week this little gem popped up in my inbox: First we should introduce you to the owners of this sweet room... Meet Cece and Elle (the most adorable twin girls I've seen since Mary Kate and Ashley. For reals.) Seriously?? I know you're looking at the headboard... For long distance clients the process is a little different. The client does... Continue reading

A while back Stray Dog Designs interviewed me about design, dogs, and other random things. ...continue reading the interview. I have always loved Stray Dog products- and the wonderful company behind it. I recently used a few pieces in a client's playroom/landing area- aka "the happy room". The cow head and the lamps were bought previously by the owner so I gladly worked them into the room. Their lamps look perfect on the custom side tables I had made with Kelly Wearstler's Katana fabric- next to a fun Mally Skok drapery fabric- Their lamps and accessories add a touch of... When I write a blog post I always enter the title last. Because even if I have intentions to write about a certain subject you really never know what's going to come out. Looks like we have some hot topics today! Let's start with Scotts Antique Show in Atlanta. Here are some of my finds... I love a good pile of babydoll heads in the morning. Next day: Market Quick trip, but I took a bunch of pictures so I could remember what I saw. Nancy Price/ Design Legacy showroom... Amy Howard... Mr Brown... Four Hands... Blue Ocean Traders... Arteriors...... Continue reading

You should have seen who did not make the final cut. Poor guy... *scroll down SLOWLY for a dramatic effect* Well look who's special now! (#Yay#15!) Continue reading

Today I'm over at Interior Canvas- a new Nashville blog that showcases interior designers and provides insight from many local design professionals. I'm truly honored to be a part of it! I am a guest blogger today providing tips on how to create a bar in your own home. (Highly recommended.) I must have been feeling inspired (or thirsty) because shortly after writing this post I found an old cart at one of my favorite local stores- Preservation Station. It was a steal so I snagged it "for somebody!" But this weekend it ended up finding a home in the... Continue reading

When we bought this little cottage we knew bathrooms would be an issue. We chose neighborhood over square footage and other amenities. So basically everything is tiny. I know it won't be long before we outgrow this but I love living small. It's the ultimate challenge- trying to make the most of every square inch. So we started with the bathroom... The main floor bathroom was... not pretty. It was definitely liveable but the textured yellow wall tiles made me cringe every time I went in there. I was planning on having someone come reglaze the tile (more cost effective)... Continue reading

First of all, thank you for sending in your resumes! I have been reading through them and interviewing like a mad woman and am happy to say that the position has been filled. I have found someone that I think will be a great fit! More later. But I can't thank you enough for your interest- it means so much to see people excited at the thought of joining our little team. I'll hang on to the resumes I received and keep you guys posted if anything opens up in the future. In other news.....So Instagram sold to facebook for... Continue reading

This week in Nashville we are celebrating... Fashion Week ! And I have been asked to be on a panel this year. Me??? Fashion and public speaking?!! I had the same reaction. But really- I'm quite honored that I was asked. I will be debating the importance of social media in developing a brand. Don't get me wrong- I'm a little nervous. I'll be discussing this topic with 4 industry PROS including Mike Wolfe from American Pickers and Susie Crippen, cofounder of JBrand jeans. (Seriously, putting me next to Mike Wolfe is like putting a 4th grader next to Oprah.... Continue reading

There are thousands of fabulous lights out there right now. You flip through the catalog and get excited about a fixture and then realize Oh, it's WAY too big for my house. So I keep running into the same issue with clients: why can't these fixtures just be shorter?? Most of my clients (including myself) have 9' ceilings so unless we're hanging something over a table the fixture shouldn't be over 24" high. Ideally you need something around 10-20" high. Which leaves us with... the flush mount category. I bet for most of you when you think of flush mounts... Continue reading

Almost daily I find myself at construction sites saying things like "Where did I put my phone? Did someone take my tape measure? Can I borrow a piece of paper? Please excuse me while I dig through the dark corners of my bag to find my pencil." It's annoying. If everything were in hand's reach I would save hours* a day! *slight exaggeration So I've been thinking.... Sister needs a tool belt. And not just your regular one.. The Pens: I have to alternate colors alot. It makes my day better. The architect scale: for figuring out the dimensions of... Continue reading

First things first- The comments from my last post were so refreshing and honest- As I read through them all I laughed and cried. Thanks for taking the time to share the little snippets of your life that make you happy. Seriously... I am going to make y'all talk more often. On a totally separate note- I've been working on several bunk rooms and have been searching for inspirational images. I'm referring to a bunk room as a room with multiple built in beds- they don't have to necessarily be stacked on top of one another. I guess I shouldn't... Continue reading

Hello friends, Happy New Year!!! 2012 has snuck up on us.!! The new year always seems so eager- doesn't it? Like it's a pushy little kid in the lunch line bumping his way to the front before the cafeteria is even open. As I look back on a wonderful but blurry 2011 I am amazed by how truly fast life passes us by. At the close of this past year I planned to do Christmas cards, a blog post for every holiday, return all my phone calls and emails, finish up my website, and start taking pilates again but have... Here comes Christmas... like a freight train. My mom keeps calling me "Will you PLEASE just tell me what you want for Christmas?" I've been avoiding it because my real answer is: NOTHING. I really don't need anything. But I also know that that answer will make any mother go insane 1 week before the holidays. !! <insert train horn> So, fashionably late, I came up with a few ideas. (And mom, I do NOT expect any of these to show up under the tree. This is just for fun.:) 1. Honeycomb artwork by my good friend Laura Roebuck 2.... Continue reading

Etsy continues to be one of my go to resources. Lately I have been narrowing down my search to "Vintage" (from the drop down menu in the search bar) and coming up with some really great finds! When I'm supposed to be coming up with a blog post I am actually just getting lost in the world of etsy...or pinterest. Too many outlets, not enough time. I created a few Treasury Lists- a compilation of some of my finds. Considering it's the holiday season (omg.) these are also great gift ideas. So, now it's your turn-- get lost! 'Nestegg treasures'... Continue reading

So before I go into my recent adventures to Chicago, Atlanta, and in bed with the flu- let's talk about what's really important: indecent exposure. Apparently the entire neighborhood has been watching me for months now because I have YET to pick out drapery fabric for practically my entire house. And I have refused to put up the old dusty plastic blinds that lived there before we repainted everything. Throughout the house (aside from a few rooms) I painted the walls and trim Benjamin Moore "China White" and the french doors Sherwin Williams "Black Fox". Hoyt keeps making fun of... Continue reading
