Well, I guess today is the day to get a little caught up on uploading photos from my camera to my computer. These few photos were taken on New Year's morning. On New Year's Eve, we spent the day at... Continue reading

Hi Megan, Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I had similar feelings before we moved. I longed for more space and seasons. I feel like Bea gets a lot of interaction with others but it's less structured. So instead of participating in things that I enroll her in, people in our community invite her and us to whatever things they are doing. Right now, she is involved wth a play that her violin teacher wrote and is directing. In December, she was invited to participate in another community event organized by the local Quaker community. We have neighbors here to play with too -which is funny, because when we were in town, she actually didn't have anyone to play with. So all in all, I think she is doing okay. I strongly believe that life works out as it is suppose to when we are able to listen to that little voice deep inside....Best wishes to you. :)

These are photos from one of two recent trips our family took this winter season. In the first half of December, we visited Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. It was really fun! The entire town was so elegantly decorated for the... Continue reading

Hi Brittany! I hope life in ATX is treating you well! Thank you for stopping by here. Lately I've made soap, witch hazel, salves and balms, elderberry syrup, and tea blends. I am continuously wanting to add to my skills as time allows. There are so many wise teachers around here and I can't wait to absorb all there is to know about the natural healing powers of plants!

Hi Jenny, It's really good to see your comment here! I've just started to quietly post again. I don't think there are many people who read blogs anymore but I find the format so much more conducive to truly expressing myself than IG (which is what I have readily relied upon more and more over the years). I like the slowness of churning a post out even if it takes days of tweaking it before hitting publish. Thank you for cheering us on. It has been a wonderful journey and we just feel so blessed with where we have landed. Much love!!

. Earlier this fall, I came across the book Braiding Sweetgrass. It was the book for me to devour as we were just getting settled in this new world of spring water, mountain forest, and quiet, simple living like we've... Continue reading

Bedtime, August 25, 2015 Bea: Daddy, is the earth the center of the universe? Byron: Nope. Bea: Ok. That's what Annie said too. (Annie from The Magic Treehouse). Bea: Who's the philosopher? Byron: Socrates? Plato? Bea: No. No. Byron: Aristotle?... Continue reading

I am so excited for you Stephanie! Somehow I missed your post last year when you decided to plant more medicinals. I've loved adding more medicinals to my garden but have a real problem finding baby plants in nurseries out here. Turns out, my brother, Marcus, in Lafayette grows a good many of the ones you listed. So when I go home, I stock up. I'm looking forward to following your journey as you all move out to the land!

It takes a lot of patience starting a new garden, doesn't it? It really does, especially here, where rain comes in unpredictable spurts, take several years to see plants mature. Every year, your yard will look a little more alive and that's so exciting to witness! I just put some tomatoes in the ground last week. I also have onions tucked into several bald spots. I seeded cucumbers last week too and I really need to get some beans planted but I"m scratching my head wondering where to tuck them in. I still have about half my winter garden in the ground, either flowering or just still growing strong. Bring on the rain!!

Yes, yes, yes. I love this. My daughter is seven and there is something so intimate and dear about mother/daughter relationships. Sometimes she puts her arm around the small of my back and we walk together like two old friends. Today, we had a lunch date at a new cafe in town. So fun! And I can imagine one day we will be not merely mother and daughter, but wonderful friends too. I also love seeing little glimpses of Black Mountain since my friend Amanda lives there, I adore the area, and we are visiting again soon in June. Sometimes this great big world feels small and cozy.
