Yesterday as Bea and I walked to the end of our road and back, we counted the months since we left Georgetown. The skies were overcast and the most of the leaves have fallen off the trees. Those that are... Continue reading

When we moved from Texas to North Carolina we weren't quite sure what our future would look like. We planned to buy a few acres, build a yurt, tend a garden, and live happily ever after. Instead, soon after arriving,... Continue reading

Bedtime, August 25, 2015 Bea: Daddy, is the earth the center of the universe? Byron: Nope. Bea: Ok. That's what Annie said too. (Annie from The Magic Treehouse). Bea: Who's the philosopher? Byron: Socrates? Plato? Bea: No. No. Byron: Aristotle?... Continue reading

Already mid January and oh goodness, this year is off and running. Today has been rainy and cold. I love it. Especially if I don't have to be outside in it. After our morning at school, we came home and... Continue reading

Well, hello there! It's been SO LONG since I've written here. So much has happened! Last summer as I was sweltering in heat and sinking into yet another case of deep summer blues, I said to Byron that this was... Continue reading

I am so excited for you Stephanie! Somehow I missed your post last year when you decided to plant more medicinals. I've loved adding more medicinals to my garden but have a real problem finding baby plants in nurseries out here. Turns out, my brother, Marcus, in Lafayette grows a good many of the ones you listed. So when I go home, I stock up. I'm looking forward to following your journey as you all move out to the land!

Well, hello there. It's been quite a long while since I've checked into this space. Right now, lunch is nearing. I'm not sure I'll be able to finish writing this post all in one sitting. Beatrix is listening to Stuart... Continue reading

It takes a lot of patience starting a new garden, doesn't it? It really does, especially here, where rain comes in unpredictable spurts, take several years to see plants mature. Every year, your yard will look a little more alive and that's so exciting to witness! I just put some tomatoes in the ground last week. I also have onions tucked into several bald spots. I seeded cucumbers last week too and I really need to get some beans planted but I"m scratching my head wondering where to tuck them in. I still have about half my winter garden in the ground, either flowering or just still growing strong. Bring on the rain!!

Yes, yes, yes. I love this. My daughter is seven and there is something so intimate and dear about mother/daughter relationships. Sometimes she puts her arm around the small of my back and we walk together like two old friends. Today, we had a lunch date at a new cafe in town. So fun! And I can imagine one day we will be not merely mother and daughter, but wonderful friends too. I also love seeing little glimpses of Black Mountain since my friend Amanda lives there, I adore the area, and we are visiting again soon in June. Sometimes this great big world feels small and cozy.

While Beatrix was outside playing this afternoon, I thought I'd take the time to upload photos to flickr and maybe find enough patience to sit at the computer long enough to chime into this place. Hello!! Well, it's spring time... Continue reading

Maybe it's the impending seasonal shift. The intense summertime heat dulls me. Inspiration, curiosity, the hunt for the those moments that make me feel alive and free dissolve away. However, like clockwork, autumn settles into me with a bite. I... Continue reading

Mmm...you had a great post last year I think about the need for quiet. About how going out for a solo hike was so very therapeutic for your soul. That was great read and I should probably reread it! :) I hope your travels did you guys great good, my friend!! I can't wait to see pictures and read your words. Much love to you three! XOXO.

Hi Cory! I'm still on Instagram. My name is nichole_livefree (I think that's it..:)) I follow you there! Thanks for the love! My yard is actually looking quite brown and crispy right now, which is pretty typical for late July in our parts. I'm hoping the huge El Nino they are predicting brings rain to CA. We were very, very wet the first six months of this year, so now it's your turn to get some relief from these constant droughts. Congrats on the album success. You are such an inspiration!
