Sean: Thanks for the heads up on Scithers -- for some reason I'd not remembered him. (Thanks also for reminding me of the correct spelling of Darrell). Nicole

Let's hope Adams' statement about it reverting to the magazine it was 30-40 years ago is incorrect. Thirty-forty years ago there was no regularly-published WEIRD TALES http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weird_Tales

Error in post: it should read "(a Wildside pub Kaye *edited* for part of its run)" (edited, not published)

On the one hand, there currently isn't a high-profile, "flagship" magazine for Lovecraftian fiction, and I can understand folks who enjoy Lovecraftian and/or Mythos-related short fiction wanting to have a hub. On the other hand, I sure wish the place they chose wasn't Weird Tales! I enjoy the New Weird and enjoyed the direction Ann had taken the magazine. If anything, I wish they would just resurrect the irregularly-published H.P. Lovecraft's Magazine of Horror (a Wildside pub. Kaye published for part of its run). Here's an Amazon link to an issue of the magazine that should provide some clues of what we're likely to see...http://www.amazon.com/H-P-Lovecrafts-Magazine-Horror-Book/dp/1592242073/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314143131&sr=1-2 I think the quality of the magazine will depend, in part, on what spin they take toward the Lovecraftian. You can look at Cthluhu and see prop for a monster story, or you can look at Cthulhu and see a jumping off point for cosmic horror. The latter is infinitely more interesting to me than the former. If Kaye is taking the magazine in a pulp, monster-fiction sort of direction...ughhhh. If he's taking into the cosmic horror direction...well, it still sucks, but there still might be hope. I've heard WT's pre-Ann run disparaged today, but I have to admit that my first exposure to Tom Ligotti's work was "Our Temporary Supervisor" -- in a pre-Ann issue of WT (edited by Darryl Schweitzer). So it's possible for this to work out. But still, the "new" (five years old) WT wasn't broke. Hate to see it get "fixed".
