This is adorable! I loved this book and found it on DVD about 6 years ago for $5. Not usually an impulse buyer, but I couldn't resist! I gave it to my friend who is a primary school teacher and she loved it. I think everyone loves The Very hungry Caterpillar!

Oh gosh those skulls are amazing! Just perfect! I too am broke right now and can totally empathize. I hope you do well at the show!
I really like the second one (top right). The fit is classic and beautiful. I only recently found your blog, but I really like it. You and Kristie seem like such a nice couple. I hope your wedding is perfect.
I absolutely adore this porch/sunroom. I have always dreamed of having a sunroom and the daybed look like a reading paradise!

Photo from here! Came across this gem on Twitter today from: It looks like it could be so many different things, but is actually ...zinc oxide growing on the outside of tiny spherical particles, as seen through the lens of a scanning electron microscope. So cool. (Here.) The Materials Research Society (MRS) has held a bi-annual "Science as Art" Competition since 2007. Their description of the what and why is: Visualization methods provide an important tool in materials science for the analysis and presentation of scientific work. Images can often convey information in a way that tables of data or... Continue reading

I can't believe how good these taste. That's what I want to start with. Mark and I were having a cooking festival last week and we were trying to come up with a way to use up our bananas since they all ripened at the exact same time (rude). Apparently we are largely boring people because all we kept coming up with was "banana bread", and while I love me some banana bread, I don't want to only have one thing to do with bananas. *I should also mention that banana in smoothies is delicious, but we were looking for... Our apartment is a little gloomy and dull, plus there is snow on the way at the end of the week! So since the calendar says it is Springtime, I've decided to pretend it looks like Spring outside. Thanks, Canada! Tissue paper flowers are cheap and easy to make, plus you can make them really huge. Huge flowers and totally happy. Martha Stewart gave me a hand, but I just wanted to show my end results. I tried a wavy "M" shape cut into the end of my tissue paper pile (post-folding) and also a spiky one. At first I... I can't claim to have made these, but they sure were a nice treat. Thanks, Mark! Mark is finally home from his business trip. Odin is estatic follows him up and down the hall. It's so nice to have him home . Continue reading

I am generally distrustful of... everyone. I don't think blindly putting trust in people makes any sense unless you enjoy getting burned. Trust is earned, not freely given, and this point has been re-iterated to me an alarming number of times through the actions of people I don't know, do know, or thought I knew. While I think this tactic saves me a lot of emotional trauma, I think it potentially blinds me to any goodness in people. (From here.) Trustworthy - obviously a huge one for me after that brief blurb. Dependable - this is different to be because... Continue reading

I really like bananas, but I am super picky about the ripeness window for eating them. Like, too picky. So when they pass my window, they are still perfectly good. The boyfriend can't eat all the bananas when I'm being a princess; enter banana bread. I love banana bread. These can kind of pass as healthy too since they are whole wheat? Pre-heat oven to 375F. Ingredients: 3 smallish bananas, slightly past princess/prince ripeness 1 cup of whole wheat flour 2 tbsp of ground flax 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 tsp apple... Mark left for Newfoundland yesterday. He has a business trip there, which is totally reasonable since half of his company works here and the other half works in Newfoundland, but it is still very strange since he is going to be our hometown on business instead of pleasure. It is so strange to think of him there without me! A few days before he left we had a cupcake date. We live a few blocks away from our favourite bakery/cafe in the world, Thimblecakes! They are so awesome! They are completely nut-free and have many gluten-free, vegan, and "normal" cupcake... Continue reading

I think I live pretty healthfully. I know that I at least try to be healthy, which counts for a little. I eat vegan, so no added cholersterol, lots of veggies, lots of eating at home instead of out. I don't eat much bread. I don't own a car and walk or get public transit (which still involves lots of hiking around from bus stop to bus stop) and ride a bike. I try hard to drink enough water and don't drink juice or soda. I drink my coffee black. To be honest, I am a bit scared to eat... Continue reading

So I am a student (again), which means I am hella broke. I eat a lot of rice and am desperate for new jeans/any jeans but continue to hold out for "one more month". That said, the walls in our apartment are DRAB and I can't handle them anymore. It wouldn't be so bad if they were actually just white, but they are this nasty off-white that looks like white that has been stained by decades of tobacco. Foul. Also, most of he walls are CONCRETE, which means we can't hang anything! Nothing! The other sad part is that our... Continue reading

List Things You Aspire to be Fearless At: Going for what I want/achievement Authencity (I am always myself, but sometimes it can be a little scary) Painting Being boring without feeling judged because reading > people Eating the way I want to, even if it makes me a big vegetable loser Admitting to myself that I want a home and not a collection of cardboard boxes As an extension, making my home look the way I (and Mark) want it to Cat Lady for life Wearing whatever I want is cool, OK? NOM. I love a good cinnamon bun. Always have, always will. I used to stay at my Nanny's house a lot as a kid and she would often have cinnamon buns for me in the morning. She had this uncanny knowledge of when I was going to wake up because when I would stumble into the kitchen in the morning she would always be just about to pull a fresh tray of cinnamon buns out. How did she know?! Grandma's are magic and nothing will convince me otherwise. My interpretation of grandmothers (I am awesome at drawing). The only problem... Continue reading
