I hear you! If you have a similar taste to someone else, it seems that you are bound to cross paths idea-wise. For instance I released the "Bobbies" print in my shop and just a couple weeks later Rifle Paper Company released their Spring '13 line that included bathroom prints — and a bobbie pin print. I get angry comments sometimes on buyers' Instagrams that mine is a rip-off, but it's not at all and furthermore, I consider Anna a friend and certainly one whom I would never copy. "Great minds" I guess? As for originality in the blogosphere, it may not be prevalent, but maybe that's the point. Personally, I treat a lot of my blog posts simply as daily design practice rather than a full-fledged "original" thoughts. Some blog posts may fall into that category (like this one) but others are fun, easy and fleeting. I think that's okay, too. :)

Additionally, while I share your sentiment that the holiday should be recognized for its true purpose, I also believe there is something to be said for celebrating life through whatever means.... BBQ included. Freedom is a privilege and arguably by living it, we also honor those who made it possible. Have a peaceful weekend. My thoughts are with you and all of our friends who have lost loved ones along the way.
