Not gonna lie. The U2 thing made me happy. I am such a dork.
Also: my summers were basically all the same as yours minus having swimming pools anywhere near our houses. I hope my kids grow up having awesome summer memories.
Summer memories never fade away
It’s been so hot the last couple of days, I haven’t gone outside for more than a few minutes until the sun’s gone down, and even then walking down the middle of the street still feels like a furnace. Trading the blazing heat of a parking lot for the cool, dry air conditioning of a store is bliss...
Nerdy babies FTW! I haz two of my own. Son (who you've met, at PAX when he was teeny weeny) is now 3 and is changes superhero outfits about 300 times a day. Daughter is 6.5 and practically runs her own D&D games, and is writing her own comic books.
We are happy nerdparents.
PS I think without the Twilight Zone pinball you will still be the awesomest uncle because DUH you have doggies and dice. Young children need barely anything else. (Food = optional.)
The Force Will Be With Him...
My nephew will be joining Team Humans sometime in July, so today we're having a baby shower for my little sister (who, at 33, isn't little, bit if you're a big brother or sister, you know what I mean.) My brother in law is awesome, even though he's Dallas Cowboys SuperFan Number One Top Guy Fore...
Great idea! Checking it out now! :)
This is my new show, Tabletop
Last summer, Felicia Day asked me if I wanted to develop a show together for her new premium YouTube channel, Geek and Sundry. Spoiler alert: I said yes. She asked me if I wanted to do a show about gaming, maybe a review show or something like that. "I think it would be more fun do somet...
You ought to make this a stupid cell phone video, at the very least.
Because it will give me an excuse to buy and own and wear an ascot.
Last night, I was out having a drink with a friend of mine. Because we are both nerds and writers, our conversation steered into nerdy writer territory and stayed there. It was unseasonably warm, so we sat on an outdoor patio -- one of the few that isn't rendered useless to me by an army of smok...
Wow! Are they already casting the next Spider-Man movie? You'd make a rad Peter Parker, the later years. ;)
PS Good luck!
in which i have an audition for a feature this afternoon
I composed a post in Firefox all about how I have this awesome audition this afternoon. Then, when I tried to publish it, Firefox hung for ten minutes before it crashed. I've been spoiled by stability, so I didn't do the ctl-c that was so pretty much automatic a few years ago... so here's the tl...
I totally tried posting a response to this when you posted the thing, but there was a fail moment. So here I am again. :)
Anyhow, we had quite the gaming group in college, and in fact I attribute our gaming group to bringing my husband and I together (I remember the exact moment: while playing Vampire: The Masquerade we found ourselves facing a hovercraft. This of course required me to quote from Monty Python "My hovercraft is full of eels!" Which prompted my now-husband to respond "I will not buy this record, it is scratched!" By the end of college, and after many all nighters playing stupid games like Risk (which I now refuse to play because of how long that thing takes) we eventually parted ways, and broke ties over dumb stuff with the main friend who organized everything.
A few years later, after drifting apart a little, and all becoming serious hermits, we realized that while the glue that held our friend group together back then was no longer a part of our lives, we couldn't let the gaming go away forever.
So we started up again seriously about 3 years ago. And we've been playing (D&D mainly) regularly, ever since. In fact, we just wrapped up our 3 year long campaign a few weeks ago. It was bittersweet, but over the years we were playing, we made new friends and socialized, often. It was great!
So anyway, that's what I wanted to share. :)
on the importance of making time to play the games you like with the people you love
In the introduction to my short collection of gaming essays called Games Matter, I wrote: Of all the things that make me a geek, nothing brings me more joy, or is more important to me, than gaming. I am the person I am today because of the games I played and the people I played them with as I ...
There is so much win to this I just don't even...
In which I am a Trolldad
Ryan's home for the holidays, before he moves far, far away for his new job (hey, check out my son! He graduated college last week, and he starts a great job in two weeks! Go Ryan!!) The first night he was home, I told him that the warm covers for the bed he's sleeping on were in the dryer, so...
That was really fun! Thanks for sharing your nerdy, yet strangely totally normal office with us. :)
My only comments regarding the technical stuff has all pretty much been stated already. I'm late to the party. :(
Watch about a stupid live tour of my messy office, and hear me tell you a story.
I made a stupid cellphone video that was actually a live stream tour on my Ustream channel of my messy office. Then I read a short story. Yaaaaay! The stream was broken once when Paul called me (way to steal focus, Paul!), so there are two videos: If you watched it (live or recorded, pleas...
Actually I think I did that math wrong. 21 days.
Writing about writing so I can get back to writing because today I'm having a hard time writing
I'm having a great time writing this thing that I can't get too specific about, but I'm severely blocked on today's work, so I thought I'd talk about writing instead of writing, in the hopes that it shakes up my brain and lets me get back to writing. When I write fiction, the first thing I do is...
NaNoWriMo commence in T-20 days. Also commence: FREAKING OUT ABOUT IT.

I want to go to there.
I don't want to go on the cart
I'm not quite dead! I just took a vacation that looked something like this: Click to embiggen at Imgur, and to see a few other pictures from our trip. It was kind of a big deal for us, because it's the first non-working, non-kid-having vacation Anne and I have taken since we were dating almo...
We don't have a lot of extra funds right now, because we just bought a house, or I'd love to help raise funds. Instead, the bit of extra funds we DO have is going to go to adopting our own doggy dog. We're still settling in and fixing things around the house, but once we're ready we'll be bringing home a shelter dog too.
Good luck with the fundraising this year! And lots of love to your puppy! :)
puppy love and the wiggle waggle walk
This is our dog, Seamus: Seamus is in our lives because of people like you, who read my blog and supported Anne and me when we decided to celebrate the memory of our awesome dog, Ferris, and did the Wiggle Waggle Walk for the Pasadena Humane Society in 2009. Anne wrote: Just over 8 years ag...
We had a really fun time with friends, meeting new people, handing out our "friendship cards" (which was a WIN, everyone should do that), and playing tons of games. I got to go to concert for the first time EVER, and it was awesome. We made it to one whole panel, and avoided most lines. We came away with some fun loot including Axe Cop, pretty much the best game we've purchased since Fluxx. Seriously, check it out.
Otherwise, thank you for being awesome, as always, and thanks for the secret photo you signed. It will be hung in my new house with much smirking. I will report back on my husband's reaction (probably a form of disgust and eye rolling.)
Meanwhile, I took The Greatest Photos Ever this year, with only my camera phone. Delight in their amazing quality!

(None with you because I spaced, but oh well.)
How was your PAX?
I'm on set for Eureka, tethering to the Internets through a mobile hotspot, using my iPad to post with the Typepad app. This is, as they say, less than optimal for blogging. However, I wanted to put a post up for PAX stuff, until I can write a proper post in the next few days. I had a wonderful ...
Happy birthday, blog! Thanks for writing an entertaining distraction. As a stay at home mom I like to pop in and check on teh intarwebz to see what other people are doing all day. When I see a post from you it brightens my day a bit more. I've always said as long as I've been reading your stuff, that you're an inspiration to me, and it's no lie. Keep up the good work, and ignore those dudes in the past. They were jerks.
3652 days later...
So, while I'm putting together the last few things I need to take to PAX, I realized I forgot to mention something: ten years ago yesterday, I started my blog at WWdN*. Ten years ago today, Metafilter declared that it was "lame,"** and most of the Internet was really shitty to me about the whole...
Well DUH. I just realized that you said you came home with 10 lbs of dice and posted a freaking photo. GO ME. *facepalm*
bring me your tired, your poor, your polyhedral dice...
It's 4pm, and I've been awake for 12 hours, on almost 5 hours of wake-up-every-thirty-minutes-so-I-don't-oversleep, uh, sleep. Truly, I live an exciting life that doesn't afford me the opportunity to get much quality reszezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz *thunk* *snore* *drool* Ah, that was nice. Okay...
YES. I have so many extra dice that never get used, you can totally have them. Any ideas how many you have right now? Any recent pics? I'm curious to see the collection. :)

YES. THIS. That was the year we brought my toddler to PAX so OF COURSE that was the year everyone contracted the plague.
Copious amounts of hand sanitizer and visiting the bathrooms to wash hands vigorously saved our butts last year.
This is a post about PAX Prime, which is suddenly upon us.
It's raining in Vancouver. Little rivulets of water are running down the window, as low clouds slowly move across downtown, swallowing up the tops of buildings as they roll by. I have a late call today. I'm in one scene, and then I'm off until next Monday. Tomorrow morning, I'm going home to get...
Wow. What is up with your hair in that pic? Did you even shower? LOL! Oh, the 80's.
I will totally come say hi at PAX. I mean, assuming the line doesn't make me want to barf. This year we're hoping to avoid too many lines (LOL is that possible??) But I want to bring you dice.
See you soon, PAX and Wil! :)

If I had been drinking milk it would have snorted out of my nostrils right now. Buwhahaha!
That episode, seriously.
I am easily amused
So io9 did this thing called the 10 Suckiest Fake Video Games That People Play In Science Fiction. Spoiler Alert: The Game from, uh, The Game is number one. 1) Suckdisk from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Actually, we don’t remember this game having an actual name on the show, but “suckdisk” f...
Epic clown sweater is epic, yet Spock is still not impressed!
Happy Birthday! My little sis shares your day of escaping the womb, so it's easy for me to remember my favorite (ok, second fave after my hubby I guess) nerd's birthday. Hope it's wonderful, and clown-free!
Spock is not impressed that it's my birthday
During w00tstock last week, I mentioned that I was turning 38 this week. After the show, Anne told me that I was, in fact, turning 39. In the few seconds that it took me to do some math, I lost a year of my life. Apparently, this is the sort of thing that happens when you get to be my age, which...
Ryan is going to remember that experience for his entire life and has you to thank for it! That's so rad! Way to go being The Most Awesome Dad in the History of the Universe!
I can't wait for >REDACTED<
:)
PS PAX IS IN ONE MONTH!
On the meeting of Nathan Fillion (or: The Obligatory Comicon Post)
Comicon was awesome. The Eureka panel was funny and everyone in the audience seemed to enjoy themselves. The consensus from the cast and producers was that I did a good job moderating, and I felt like I managed to get out the talking points the network wanted me to get out under pain of death wi...
I agree with THE Kandiman, there. Once I got to know you via PAX, and ECCC, I realized how AWESOME you are, and how down to Earth. You understand what it's like to be on our end, as nerdy fans facing celebrities, and give us each a moment of your ACTUAL attention, not just a vague autograph session. In addition, you are a warm, friendly individual, and it's awesome to see that. It too, pisses me off when a celebrity acts like an ass to their fans. And not even because we're "paying their wages therefore you must perform" but because you should be a decent human being and follow Wheaton's Law.
Thanks for being rad, Wil.
"There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind."
The list of Stuff I Need to Write About just keeps getting bigger and bigger ... so instead of trying to tackle it right now, I give you this, from my Twittersbox a little bit ago: When you're fortunate enough to have success and love what you do, you have a choice: Be kind and grateful, or be ...
Ha ha! Your post just caused severe LOLs. I used to have kitties until said allergies, I think you mentioned something about them?...caused me to send all kitties to other loving homes. My cat only ate when people were around, and also took toxic craps. Luckily we hid his litter box in a closet, but STILL. They were gnarly.
Also: go to hell, trees, I'm sick of you.
this is really gross. you have been warned.
There is a tree near my house, that has probably been there for years, just doing its tree thing, watching patiently as families come and go, empires rise and fall, and Isengard is flooded. I'm sure it's a beautiful tree, cheerfully trading carbon dioxide for oxygen, providing shade, and most li...
Yes, plz.
Is this something you can share with the rest of us Amazing Larry?!
Anne went to bed before I was tired last night. Being a good husband who doesn't want to get The Wrath, I opted to head into my office on the other side of the house to watch a little TV before I went to sleep, instead of sitting in our bed and watching TV there. (Yes, we live in a house that is...
The stealy stuff is super evil. I can't believe there are people who think that's okay. WTF?
Did you buy ice cream???
i've got one more silver dollar
I'm taking a break from my online traffic school (shorter traffic school: Don't be a dick, and slow the fuck down). I got a ticket recently when I misunderstood some confusing lane lines in Burbank. I thought they were telling me I could turn right from the two right-most lanes, but the friendly...
