When C-level executives are asked what change they could make to become a more effective leader, one of the most common answers is, "I need to delegate more!" My caution to these executives is always the same: Don't delegate more. Delegate more effectively. Delegation is not a quality like "demonstrating integrity" or "complying with the law." Honest, ethical and legal behavior is always appropriate -- delegation isn't. Inappropriate delegation can do more harm than good. I saw an extreme example of the "empowerment is good" flaw in one of America's largest companies. The CEO naively believed that his employees would... Continue »

WTF is Customer Loyalty? Who is the King? You Mr. Customer or the Seller? Edit Delete Tag Autopost I am intrigued by the saying that " Customer is the King " . I am also surprised by the words like Customer Loyalty. I am aghast at the schemes which many service companies run called Customer Loyalty Schemes. I have myself run some Customer Loyalty programs and have debated whether it is the supplier loyalty, vendor loyalty to the King or it is the seller who is making a fool of the customer. Let me share my thoughts. I am a... Continue »

ndia’s automobile industry appears to be slowdown-proof. Car manufacturers’ domestic sales grew over 25 per cent in 2009-10 and are expected to be over 30 per cent in 2010-11. That means more than 3 million cars have been added in two years to an urban road network that has scarcely expanded. To be sure, it’s not the Nano that has contributed to this acceleration — Tata Motors is struggling with the opposite problem of low sales. India’s shining incomes and glittering loan schemes are accelerating automobile sales every month as Indians look to acquire status and insulate themselves from poor... Continue »
