Saying knowing how to program is actually different from actually knowing how to program.
One job that I applied for (and got hired) I was asked to do using a flowchart (this was long long time ago) of determining the day of the week given a specific date.
Once I finished the flowchart they gave it to a programmer who wrote the COBOL program for it and with a few changes it worked!
