Before I continue... adding the full stop prior to an @ name other than at the very start of your tweet shows your misunderstanding of the twitter vernacular and convention, do it and claim to be a 'pro' 'expert' or 'guru' and you will show your true shade of b*ll*cks So full stop, How to combat it prevalence and pointlessness. I now realise its like that for everyone when social media makes it on to their radar. Social Media has exploded into society's consciousness and has quickly produces a generation with no memory of a world before the web and even more recent a generation with no memory of a world before Facebook. That has happened not in my life time (I’m 40) but in 20yrs, that's just half of my life time. How long before there is no generation with a living memory of a world with out the internet? 2014 is set to be dominated by 'the Internet of Things', affordable 3D printing is on the verge of becoming the next big phenomenon yet for many in the theatre industry the age of social media is still a baffling trend many hope will disappear as a fashion fade. Once you have signed up I recommend finding the account settings and completing your profile, adding a photo and cover banner. Storify doesn't have an internal platform community it's a platform tool, but readers can follow your account and like-wise you can follow storify publishers. What is useful is the profile URL. This is mine - https://storify.com/pcmcreative. Its not compulsory but it makes you look professional in the eyes of your audience. First impressions do count. Let your content speak for you not the neglected, incomplete profile pages. Continue reading

Some people are prolific tweeters and you might find they drown out your new infant twitter stream. Or you might be an established tweeter who sees one account dominate your stream on occasions. Well you can turn them off if you don’t want to unfollow them. But if you want to hear from them again don’t forget to turn them back on! #WeAllKnowOne! Continue reading

Hi OD, As an adult dyslexic, diagnosed many years ago the coping strategies deployed for spelling and grammar, this is essentially read, read, re-read, and accepting that if I've missed anything my colleagues will kindly point it out, makes the spelling/grammar aspects of dyslexia you queried in your comment manageable. To assist me with spelling and grammar when using my computer I have Ginger, this assists me with foreign translation too as I work with organisations across Europe. http://www.gingersoftware.com/ The aspect of Dyslexia I constantly struggle with is the cognitive elements, shocking short term memory and when under pressure the text-jumbling, more commonly known as disorientation, which can make reading very difficult. My solution to this has always to have a notebook at my side. Over the years my notebooks have become great reference tools and project development archives. As digital technology has evolved and the concept of 'going paperless' has taken hold I looked to move away from a paper diary and notebook. As my dependence on these 'analogue tools' became recognised as machanisms for normal life functioning, I have over the years had a curious relationship with understanding my dyslexia and helping others to identify their minor cognitive struggles. Over time I have transferred to Google Calendar and love the way it syncs across multiple devices. For writing, I have adopted Livescribe, where I do not need to make notes but simple annotate audio. It's a cool assistive tool. http://www.livescribe.com/uk/ This Rocketbook project keeps the analogue, always-with-you security, no power necessary or wifi. Uses off the self pens and will be digitisable via the Rocketbook app for archiving and sharing. It's an exciting, cost effective, eco-friendly, assistive technology I know as a dyslexic I will delight in having Rocketbook in my toolkit of life. Everyone suferes to some extent at times with anxiety and stress I just find a notebook eases the confusion dyslexia asserts upon me. Hope that answers your question. Thank you for asking. It may become a blog post in its self. Do check out The Podcast https://thecodpast.wordpress.com/ for some inspirational dyslexia stories.

We are all aware that the generation classified as ‘Millennials’ are categorised by their perspective on technology, that they don’t know what the world was like before the dawn of the pervasive web. A similar generation would have been those who had no living memory of life without the electric light switch. Going forward a defining era will be that a generation will emerge with no living recollection of a time without augmented reality. Continue reading

Potentially, the only notebook you will ever need to buy, ever again. I kid you not. You don't need a special tech pen, but you do need to use Pilot Frixion pens. I can't wait to get mine. "Rocketbook allows people to enjoy the pleasure of writing in a traditional paper and pen notebook, while digitizing all notes and sending them to the cloud, without introducing any special electronics." says the campaign page. Bringing digital into the retail environment of shopping is a huge challenge. And I think Phil Campbell has an affordable, social, retail compatible solution which he talked about when invited to talk about ThePiStreet in Sittingbourne, last November at 21st Century High St & Town Centre's half day seminar hosted by Kent Design. The provision of watching a live-stream from experience and anecdotally is not a comparable option to attending 'in the flesh' or as I have come to refer to it, being 'on the ground'. 'Sitting' on the livestream can be a lonely experience. You have to physically set yourself aside and use headphones, especially if you are at work in an office environment. You have to be separate to listen out loud. You don't get to chat to fellow delegates, you don't get a goodie/swag/bonus bag and you don't get the change of scenery. A change is as good as a rest so the adage goes. Continue reading

In October last year I was invited to create an online audience experience for the Nordic Nations's annual conference Arts and Audiences being held in Reykjavik, Iceland by the host organisations Audiences Norway and the DCAI (Danish Centre for the Arts and Interculture. For Arts and Audiences we used many social technologies in the final event delivery, but Google Hangout holds the engagement potential I think can make attending ‘in the cloud’ worth while. Welcome back to the digital office! I spend far too much time online but since reframing my activities in terms of being an audience producer it makes much more sense. There is a lot of ambient monitoring to enable me to be authoritative in my chosen field and to maintain communication channels with fellow audience practitioners. Continue reading

Its a balance. This was a conference I had an interest in attending. Some sessions I made no media. Being audience and amplifier needs thought. What to capture and what to experience. It's a rare opportunity to spand the day with fellow stagemanagers. I'm looking forward to SMAconf 2014. Continue reading
