OUTLET BAY, Idaho – Mike Dolan remembers the Priest Lake cabins of his youth – small and simple. Some even had outhouses. Not long ago, Dolan built a vacation home here that included a three-car garage and gourmet kitchen. His next project is a narrow, 90-foot-long retreat that resembles a covered bridge spanning two high points on forestland. Dolan, who graduated from Ferris High School and Washington State University, is among the half-dozen or so Priest Lake builders who cater to their clients’ desire for 21st century “rustic” – for instance, reclaimed heart pine flooring kept toasty by hot-water tubes underneath. The one inch (1") raise in the official FEMA flood level at Priest Lake will result in nearly 500 parcels now being included in the flood zone. This is likely to require our residents to obtain (at the owners expense) an Elevation Certificate from a licensed surveyor to prove their structure is above the flood level, if any part of their property (even at the water's edge) is at the new level. The appeal process began 12 JUNE and will continue into SEPT 2013. Bonner County plans to host a mtg at Priest Lake in mid-July with ID Water Resources and FEMA to further explain the impact. Those with subsidized flood insurance are likely to see rate increase of 25% per year. - See more at: http://www.peckycox.com/priestlake/#sthash.KWsAK68I.dpuf Continue reading
