I'm starting to think that part of the reason people think Jamie is "wahsed up" sometimes is that when he has these type of games where things don't go well, he pitches unbearably slow. Like, he just drags out the experience of pain, even if the end results aren't that bad. Even the announcers get all slow-tongued and bored, and I think it just serves to highlight Jamie's very normal struggles.

I believe the Phils are 3-5 in their last 8. One win against the Sox, Cubs, and Pirates.

Did I miss the Beerleaguer update over the weekend? I've been waiting with bated breath, what's going on?

Holy Molly happy birthday! And whatever is going on with the job stuffs, I hope it's all on your own terms. And finally, looking forward to some beerleaguer 2.0. Oddly, I kinda wish the Phils could face Becket this series. They always seem to grind out good at bats against him, and then put up a crooked number in there too.

Spot on write up. Only other thing that crosses my mind: it's good to get some guys a touch of rest, including the bullpen, before interleague gets underway.

Now on Beerleaguer, where Clout has shown that correlation implies causation. Clout if you were on today, you'd be hammering us all for being such idiots. I don't know where those numbers come from, but just because SLG correlates more closely to runs scored does not prove that SLG is more valuable than OBP when it comes to run scoring. SLG and OBP also have a relationship, so it's very difficult to look at those correlations and tease out which is more valuable, as you can't look at one independently. This though, certainly, and strongly, suggests that OBP is more valuable than SLG when it comes to runs: http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/comments/why_does_17obpslg_make_sense/

Check out crashburnalley.com for a take on Chooch's OBP. I asked him about moving Ruiz up in the order, and he had a good response. He also looked at other 8 hole catcher's OBP. Should be the newest post, I think.

So clout, you're basically saying that, as it stands, KK is not a big league pitcher. Like about 100 other guys, if he can just do X better, he might make it. "...he lacks stuff and is totally dependent on command for success and he needs to learn to get lefties out. Again, he can be a back end rotation guy or a ROOGY if he throws strikes. That's about what he's worth. And if he can't throw strikes, which he hasn't so far this year except for one game, then he will not be in the big leagues for very long.

So, are chooch's numbers a product of his batting position, or actual skill? Cause honestly, he looks like the most professional hitter we have outside of Utley. It'll never happen, but I'd love to see him bat higher in the order.

I would like to officially retract my week-2 statement about this team finally beating mediocre pitching on a regular basis. I'm tired of this. And I apologize.

Hey G-Town, I just linked my twitter to typepad/beerleaguer. Are you automatically posting those twitter comments to beerleaguer through this new feature, or are you cutting and pasting? Thanks.

Is anyone actually listening to Stark v. Law? Somehow I have a hard time believing that Law is getting schooled by Stark, though I do like Stark. previously Phillies Red, btw.
