Interests:
Our motto: Fotos, Friends, Food, Fun -- but not necessarily in that order.
PICTURE THIS Projects is a Chicago-based, philanthropic organization of volunteer photographers, journalists and other community members dedicated to supporting and creating projects that use photography to encourage creative-expression and self-esteem. We aim through our programs and exhibitions to bridge the gap between people of different backgrounds.
PTP was founded in 1993 by professional photographers. It started as a single project organized to share the power of photography with girls. It went so well that we incorporated. We work primarily with people with little access to the medium who would benefit from photography, especially kids at risk. Our specialty is providing cameras, film and volunteer coaches to work with kids one-on-one. We've worked with kids, ages 7 - 17, from the Eisenberg Boys and Girls Club, the McCormick Boys and Girls Club, Marillac House, East Village Youth Programs and Young Chicago Authors. We also support projects organized by other groups. The kids' photography has been exhibited in a variety of places, including Gallery 312, the Illinois Art Gallery, ARC gallery, the Harold Washington Library and other neighborhood libraries, plus a number of cafes in the Chicago area. Outside Chicago sites include the Illinois Art Museum in Springfield, IL; the Suburban Fine Art Center in Highland Park, IL; and the Northern Indiana Art Association Gallery in Munster, IN. One of our favorite exhibitions was in Cook County Hospital's emergency room waiting room. In addition, the work has been exhibited in Canada and Germany, where it received much appreciation from the press and public.
Stories about us have appeared in the media worldwide, including: Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Defender, Pioneer Press newspapers, Lerner newspapers, StreetWise, Chicago Reader, The Times newspapers, WMAQ-TV, WTTW-TV, WGN-Radio, and Ms magazine, Rangefinder, to name a few.
Our projects are made possible through the collaboration and support of numerous individuals and companies. Additional sponsors for "Our World" are still being sought.
Our ongoing project "Our World" is an exchange and exhibition, which has young photographers from both Germany and the U.S. making images and sharing them via the internet and airmail. Germany organized a print exhibition of Chicago kids' work. A web gallery of some of the German kids' work can be viewed at http://www.picturethisprojects.org/PTPGermany/index.htm. This exchange aims to promote friendship and understanding between our countries and cultures, not just for the young photographers participating, but for the larger audience that will see their work, learn from their stories and recognize what we have in common and consider our differences.
PICTURE THIS Projects is an inclusive group. We invite volunteer photographers and community members to get involved in ways meaningful to them. We are looking for new groups to collaborate with on projects. For more information, contact Karen Kring at krkring@yahoo.com. We invite involvement via monetary or in-kind contributions too.

I think you did a great job designing the report too. It is packed with info and you've made it so much easier to read and navigate than it could have been. Thanks.
