"I hope that the incredible number of people who turned out to give him time and money will give an equal amount of time and money at a homeless shelter, or some other organization that desperately needs that time and money to help people who are suffering." Don't fret, they likely do.

The entire cartoon is nothing but a straw man argument. Dumb. Plutocrats? You mean like the Hollywood elite supporting Obama? Here's a sentence in Wikipedia's definition of "Plutocracy:" In the political jargon and propaganda of Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany and the Communist International, western democratic states were referred to as "plutocracies", with the implication being that a small number of extremely wealthy individuals were controlling the countries and holding them in ransom. Looks like you're in good company, Wil.

I suspect the stories "all over the country and in the UK" are similar: tough times call for tough funding decisions. Decisions made not by the people you demonize but by politicians across a broad political spectrum. Politicians who very likely share your political point of view. You know, politicians like Jerry Brown.

Yes, librarians and libraries are awesome but they aren't under attack by the usual bogey men favored by Liberals that you list. According to the articles linked to by the Measure L supporting commenters, it's the liberal Jerry Brown himself who wants to slash library funding. And while the Measure L ballot appears to be worth supporting, it seeks an INCREASE in funding from the .0175 guaranteed portion of the Los Angeles general fund to .03. Failure to obtain that increase isn't slashing funding, it's keeping funding where it's supposed to be. If libraries aren't receiving their guaranteed funding, look to the Mayor and City Council, who, oddly, support this measure; they're the ones who control the purse strings.
