While I can agree with that sentiment in theory, in practice, I found that nobody really gave a shit if you were good at math or science; if anything, it was just another reason for assholes to push you into the mud and treat you like shit, which I got tired of around 7th grade. To me, laying low and feigning ignorance seemed like a good solution at the time, and was a much better alternative than committing assault or being embarrassed as fuck by my dad when he'd run off to a kid's house to chew out their parents (and you can guess how well that shit turned out the next day).
Just some perspective.
a point of clarification
Yesterday, I overheard some twentysomethings complaining about how much they hated their jobs. After a few minutes, it became clear that none of them took high school seriously, and at least a couple of them had dropped out of community college because it was, in their words, "too hard." I Twitt...
It gave me a good chuckle. Thanks, Wil. :D
CSI: D&D
This is a little bit of gallows humor that I whipped up and sent to Scott Kurtz and my friends at Penny Arcade when we all knew that Aeofel was dead, but couldn't tell anyone else in the world. It seems pretty stupid and clunky now, but at the time, it was as hilarious as it was cathartic to me...

I was gonna post something pessimistic until I read Ariana's last post. I'm gonna set aside a few hours for writing now.
Get Excited and Make Things!
My friend Ariana works with Warren Ellis to make all kinds of really cool things. Lately, they've been experimenting with print on demand technology to take creative risks that simple economics would have rendered impossible as recently as five years ago. For example, three weeks ago, they sta...
I don't blame Youtube. Remember, CBS put the promo up, so it's their fault.
Hey look! It's the promo for my episode of The Big Bang Theory!
Holy. Carp. Wil's Mind = BLOWN. This is the coolest thing I've seen all day. I can't believe that CBS chose to make the promo for next week's episode all about me! It's a huge honor, because it means someone at CBS thinks I'm worth audience. I've also heard from two friends who have seen sc...
Yeah, I saw on the wootstock page. That's pretty awesome.
Personally, I'd pick Toronto. Hotels and the International Centre are minutes away from the airport.
everything you ever wanted to know about w00tstock (but were afraid to ask)
I'm not going to lie to you, Marge: I'm pretty damn excited for w00tstock next week. It's one of those things where it simultaneously feels like years and seconds ago that Paul (of Paul and Storm) called me and said something like, "do you want to do a show together?" "Yes. Yes I do." "Wouldn't ...
"This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions." I am sad. :(

My biggest lament right now is that, even if you guys were to come to Toronto, I still wouldn't be able to afford to go. *sigh* Unemployment sucks. :(

I think he's asking for more than just Wil to come.

Yeah, that is Mike Rowe. I guess deboning fish is a dirty job. :)
fish should be dead 5 hours before deboning
I'm pretty sure that voice over is Mike Rowe, and assuming this is real, there's no way the people behind this didn't know exactly what they were doing. (via cglynne on Twitter)

My favorite part was when NPH suggests that one of the Prop 8 supporters was a lesbian.
prop 8 - the musical

My sister has the season 5 DVDs, so I actually got to watch this one for the first time a couple days ago.
Interesting episode, though you kinda wanna take a brick to the kid's face by the end of it.
I also found it kinda funny when they were pulling you out of your box, 'cuz I got to thinking "You know, if somebody asked 'I wonder what happened to Wil Wheaton?' and I showed them this scene, what would their reaction be?"
Walter!
While channel surfing, I just discovered that my episode of CSI, Compulsion, is about to start on the West Coast. So if you'd like to see me and my sweater, put on your local CBS station, and enjoy! Afterthought: I'm having a really shitty day, which included an absolutely terrible audition ...

The look on your face is just priceless. It says many things to me, like "STFU," "GTFO," or my personal favorite, "RTFM!"
*looks at pic again* lol Everytime I look at it I start giggling. It's so funny.
I'll say this though; you're a braver man than I, Wil. ;)
undone (the sweater post)
Several years ago, I participated in a fund and awareness raiser in San Francisco for the Electronic Frontier Foundation's chillingeffects.org, where I made a speech, and participated in a celebrity boxing grudge match with Barney the Dinosaur. The whole thing was about fair use and parody rig...

Yeah, this is complete and utter BS. I'm guessing the angle they'll go for is that it's Christopher Robin's daughter or some such thing.
A lot has changed in the world in the last 80 years. However, think of Sesame Street. It is also timeless, and it hasn't done any of this gender-bending crap as far as I can tell. I mean, new characters have been introduced, but I don't think they've turned Grover or Cookie Monster into ladies. They've added new characters instead, and incorporated modern concepts.
Based on the screen they show, it looks like the child is going to be the center of attention rather than being the source of imagination, which was all Christopher Robin really was. I mean, if I remember the original correctly, he doesn't even show up in his own imaginings until near the end, though my memory is slightly sketchy on that. I do, however, remember that his role largely remained as that of puppetmaster rather than active participant in the events that unfolded.
I'll tell you this though; if this turns out to be a "Dora the Explorer by Disney", I'm going to laugh my ass off when it fails and Dora stays number one.
oh bother.
At John Scalzi's Whatever, I just read As part of a barrel-full of Winnie the Pooh anniversary events, Disney is working on a new animated series that will replace Christopher Robin with a 6-year-old girl. "We got raised eyebrows even in-house at first, but the feeling was these timeless charact...

That was awesome, Wil. I especially liked the break, made me laugh out loud.
Can't wait for the next one.
Radio Free Burrito Episode Zero
Well, here it is! It's alive! As I wrote earlier today, "It will either be really cool, or the stupidest fucking thing in history, and I'll proceed accordingly." My initial feeling is that it falls somewhere in the middle: it's longer than I wanted, and it's a little unfocused, but I'm willin...
