I am not in Spain, much to my sorrow and yes, I have been hacked. Good idea to contact Darla. She'll know what to do. Thanks
Find a Wheel, and it Goes Round, Round, Round
"Find a wheel and it goes round, round, round As it skims along with a happy sound As it goes along the ground, ground, ground Till it leads you to the one you love" I loved singing rounds when we were kids in elementary school. You waited, holding your breath, until the teacher pointed at y...
Wish Id thought to ask earlier. You are good!!! I am, so far, staying out of trouble but Im only about an 1/8 of the way through. Oh, thanks. I feel relieved for the support.
Knit Witless
Now that I am the new Canning Guru of the West Coast (see previous post), I can check that skill off my "to-learn" list. And so it is that now you'll find me trying to maneuver two unwieldy and very unbending sticks through the air with the greatest of ease. Har, har. Does anyone have a couple...
genius!! It looks really professional and very very lust-worthy.
reinvention
I have new furniture in my living room. New to me, at least. It all came from Grandma Jean's house. There's a cream with light grey and tan sofa sleeper, a rocking chair and this chair. It is a very comfortable old chair that no one ever really sat in. And I love the lines - the wood pee...
But so very worth the effort. Way cool!
over-thinking
I'm a classic over-thinker. What could have been a 10 minute project took me three days, all because I kept thinking of alternatives. Not that over-thinking is necessarily bad, but sometimes often I can't get past the thinking and on to the doing. Turning this outgrown t-shirt into a pillow ...
Happy happy happy birthday season!!!!
43
It has been a splendid 43rd birthday with a trip to school, buying yarn, lunch with my honey, a bit of crochet, a wee nap, and many many happy birthday wishes on facebook. It was like a party all day long. To top it off, my oldest and dearest friend and her family trekked over from Topeka f...
Good office mates are to be cherished.
dish towel Dan
When I started writing this blog in 2006, my office mate - our IT guy, completely made fun of me. First he thought it was rediculous that I even was interested in embroidery and secondly, that I would tell anyone about it, let alone the whole world via the internet. There was some comment made...
I'm doing it too (NaBloPoMo). We'll keep each other honest!!!!
every day
I did something I may regret. I signed up for NaBloPoMo. That's right. I thought it might help me get back into the blogging groove after such a long absence. So, for better or worse, you'll be getting my photos and/or my two cents worth every day this month. Starting things off right, I put...
Ain't it just the way this time of year? Busy, busy, undaunted but dizzy. dizzy
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
It's Halloween, it nearly escaped my attention as I've been so busy with work in the haunted kitchen...... I've been feeling a bit caged up lately from all the work to be done... I'd love to be flying off somewhere exotic or even just have a gathering of some friends But alas thin...
Seriously, it has taken me 50 years to recover from the apricot overload of my youth. This is the first year I have ever even been tempted to eat one of the darn things. That whip I made was great but I used dried apricots. I am thinking of making a tart for my daughter who saw one the other day in the bakery but didnt get one. It was all custardy and beautiful. Well, custard cures all so how can I go wrong?
Hugs,
Apricots - a Tale of Love and Loathing
Sixty years ago this place where I was born and grew up was a vast and verdant valley filled with orchards. Orchards for as far as you could see. There were some Italian plums and more than a few almond trees, but for the most part swathes of apricot trees, in sturdy rows, their bottom trun...
You are always WAY ahead of the trend.

Well, this is "thyme-ly". I best get out to the garden and harvest those little buds before they go to seed. Lemon thyme is my favorite.
Thyme Flower Ice Cream - glace aux fleurs de thym
There is something magical about herb flowers. Don't you agree? They are like a softer, more feminine, and altogether prettier version of the herbs themselves. It's a pity they are not used more often in the kitchen. That might perhaps be because they are not easy to come by, if you buy h...
Nothin' could be finer!!! Refried beans, too, must have "manteca" to make them just right!!
Lard, your fat of choice?
Going through the pictures I took in New Orleans, I stumbled upon this cute sign inside the fantastic Kitchen Witch bookstore in the French Quarter. It got me thinking about lard. Even with renaissance of our love affair with pork, I don't hear much about lard as the fat of choice in our cook...
Since living in Mexico where lard IS the fat of choice I have kept a jar of it next to the stove ready to use. There's nothing else that gives that flavor. Nothing. Use to buy it by the bag in the chicharron stall at the market, here in the states I just use bacon drippings. Mmmmm mmm mm!
