We're finally ready to transition back to a single stroller after years of pushing a huge double stroller around, and I cannot even explain how excited that makes me. As you probably know by now, we travel a lot as a family, and having a lightweight stroller for our travels just makes a whole lot of sense. So, when phil&teds sent me their smart stroller, I decided to compare it to another compact stroller in a few head to head tests to see how they work for us and our family. The Baby Jogger City Mini meets the phil&teds smart stroller First impressions: At first glance, these strollers don't look much like each other. The phil&teds smart stroller is a... Continue reading

I hope you enjoy this sponsored post and tips I came up with on behalf of Red Baron. As always, all opinions are 100% my own. With how serious we take our football parties, you would probably think they are planned weeks in advance, right? Would you be surprised to know that our game days are typically planned the day of? It's true. Sometimes we will get a last-minute offer to go watch the game at friends houses, and sometimes I'm told Sunday morning that people will be coming over for the game. Either way, we're talking almost no time to prepare. So, for us, the best football party is one we can throw together in just minutes {no pun... Continue reading

Once again we were joined by our lovely neighbors for a matching girls day. My girls love matching their "cousins" and I love all the excitement they all have for matching each other. These girls have my heart, and I love that they all adore each other so much. We have a fall tradition where we meet them at local farms to enjoy all the wonderful autumn activities. My little one is so excited that her Rosebud is now walking, and has big plans for the two of them in the coming months. We love the farms near us and look forward to October every year for our fall farm tour. I had to snap a quick family photo at... Continue reading

I love fall. I love when the leaves change and it's cool enough for a sweater, and I love layering up before going outside. In my never-ending quest for cozy fall clothing that are just as fashionable as they are comfortable, I once again turned to one of my favorite brands, prAna. I adore every single prAna piece I own {which is admittedly quite a few}, and I love that they are versatile enough to go from work to play and that they can go seamlessly into most of the PNW seasons so I can get plenty of wear from them. If you aren’t already familiar with the brand, prAna clothing is different than the standard outdoorsy clothing in that... Continue reading

When was the last time you saw a stuffed animal and thought, “wow, that’s innovative?” Probably never, because what could you possibly do with a stuffed animal that’s new and exciting? It turns out, there is plenty. Animoodles is the new children's toy that shakes up everything you thought was true about stuffed animals. A team of animators and designers from Silicon Valley have created Animoodles, a new plush toy that works with the magic of magnets. These magnets connect the plush paws, arms, torsos and heads so that kids can build and play as they imagine all the possibilities. These magnets are strong enough to keep their new friends together as they play and create, but still easy for... Continue reading

It's no secret that I love farmer's markets. I love finding local brands that I love and can support, and I love meeting the people whose products I swear by. Such was the case when I visited a Oregon farmer's market while visiting family and I happened upon a Wild Roots booth. Vodka samples? Count me in, right? So, we bought a bottle. And, then we went home and slowly enjoyed our Wild Roots Vodka that was infused with berries, and I was sad when the last drop was poured. Sad we were out and we didn't have a Portland trip planned, and sad that we didn't get more during our farmer's market trip. I should clarify that I wasn't... Continue reading

I always hoped that my girls would be close. I wished more than anything for a sister for my oldest, and I was so excited when my wish came true. But, in the back of my mind I worried that there was too much space between them. Too many years between them for them to bond like my other two did. I worried they might never play together or feel like they shared a childhood, but I hoped that someday they might be close like I am with my sisters. Apparently, I had no reason to worry because even though there are 6 years between them, they are still so incredibly close. Some days my little one follows the big... Continue reading

Disclosure: This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #MoreHuggiesMoreSavings #CollectiveBias I'm 9+ years in on this whole mom gig, and at this point I would definitely consider myself an experienced mom. In the past decade I've had three kids, I've babysat several dozen more kids {sometimes daily}, and I'm oftentimes the only adult in charge of as many as 7 young kids at one time. And, even though I sometimes have a gaggle of kids around me, we're almost always on-the-go and off on some adventure. So, now that we've established my authority as an experienced mom, I'm going to tell you first time moms something that may sound crazy... Continue reading

Before I was a parent, I didn’t know how much difference a good night’s sleep really makes. Even though my kids {for the most part} sleep through the night, I have a horrible habit of staying up too late and then waking up too early. To add to the problem, I’ve also found that I seriously dislike all of the pillows I’ve bought in the past few years and I've gone through numerous pillows trying to find one that won’t keep me up at night tossing and turning. I currently have a stash of pillows that have been deemed too soft, too hard, too thick, or just plain too uncomfortable. I even got that one from the infomercial, you know,... Continue reading

Maybe if I turn on a PAW Patrol I can get just a few more minutes of sleep/work/cleaning in before being attacked by little ones. Nope, they want me to watch it with them. Sigh. A little bit of me just died inside. Is this one of the episodes after they added Everest? Nope, just that same episode I always seem to get talked into. Sadly, I think I've seen this episode a dozen times. Why is Everest never in the show? One of the two girls on the team shouldn't just disappear when there isn't snow on the ground. I wonder who built the Lookout. It's clearly the fanciest building in the town and it's for dogs. DOGS. Or,... Continue reading

Have you been to Country Village in Bothell, WA? I grew up going to Country Village with my mom and my aunts, and I have vivid memories of going to Harvest parties each fall and watching Santa ride in each winter. My favorite store there closed years ago when the owners retired, but there are still so many stores there that I enjoy. I love that my kids now love it as much as I do, and we try and go a few times a year to shop local and to take pictures on the gorgeous property. Located right off Bothell-Everett Highway in Bothell, Country Village opened in 1981 and has been a big part of the community ever since.... Continue reading

I hope you enjoy this sponsored post and recipe on behalf of Bush’s Beans. As always, all opinions are 100% my own. I've talked before about how much I love beans for feeding our large family, and I discussed how they can make a great appetizer, lunch, or dinner. But, now it's time to show how Bush's Beans can make breakfast flavorful, delicious, and filling. Why do we love beans? Because not only do they fill up a crowd, they are also inexpensive, which makes them ideal for large families. They also have fiber and protein, which makes beans a great option for going meatless. But, my number one reason for loving beans is that they are versatile so you... Continue reading

Renee, I take ours down when it's not needed. It's usually only up for a few days at a time and I just quickly put it up before they play. If you were to leave it up all the time, you would want to weatherproof it in some way or it definitely will fall apart.

If I was describing the perfect toy, it would be something that was a project. Something that took a while to set up, provided customizing opportunities so the kids can get creative, and it would have an ambiguous design that allowed for almost limitless play. All of this adds up to something that the kids play with longer than 15 minutes, and something that they return to over and over again for different types of play. In that "perfect play" category is the new Build & Play™ sets from Antsy Pants. Their newest release, the Build & Play™ Mini Market checks off every "want" of mine for toys, while still being a super fun and exciting toy that the kids... Continue reading

One thing I love most about living in Washington State is that we're literally surrounded by water. I love just sitting at the beach and listening to the waves crashing, I love running around and taking pictures while the kids play, and I love exploring all the islands around us. And, while I wish we had our own motor boat to make island hopping easy, I do love the inherent adventure in hopping on one of the Washington State Ferries and taking it somewhere for the day. It's great because you can just walk on with your day's worth of stuff and let someone else take you where you want to go, let them figure out where to park, and... Continue reading

When researching places to visit during our recent Squamish, BC trip, we were told over and over again not to skip the Britannia Mine Museum. With two kids squarely in the Mine Museum's target demographic and one child who can literally find fun anywhere, it was basically a no-brainer that we would visit it at some point on our vacation. But, what I didn't expect was that my husband and I would love it as much as we did. Britannia was once the largest copper mine in the British Empire. It may not be a working mine these days, but visiting the mine is a great way to get a glimpse into the little-seen world of mining. With lots of... Continue reading

It was a momentous occasion: the first American Girl matching shirts, ever. We bought these over a year ago a few months after Kit's new "meet" outfit was released and then this shirt arrived in the Seattle store. Those who know me know that I would not be able to pass a shirt with a vintage camera for my matching girls. And, the fact that the shirts are from Kit's collection with her signature colors? I am smitten. I love Kit so much and would basically buy a cardboard box if it came in her collection. I mean, she's a writer and a photographer. Need I say more? We actually have the new "meet" outfit for Kit stashed away, and... Continue reading

You may have noticed how my girls and I almost always wear our Salt Water Sandals throughout the spring, summer, and fall. My oldest has gone through so many pairs of these throughout the years and we just keep buying her the next size up, but this spring the little one and I decided we *needed* matching Salt Water Sandals. So, we went shopping and found the little one's size and we promptly bought two pairs of Salt Water Sandals for her {one to fit now, one in the next size up}. Our search for my size had us going to tons of stores and boutiques and in the end mine had to be ordered because for some strange reason... Continue reading

I want to raise global kids, so I must show how in times of crisis we help each other. Whether that's our neighbors, our friends, our community, fellow countrymen, or it's those around the world in places we've never been that need our help, I want them to do whatever they can to lend a hand. They may be young now and not ready to join in on recovery or mission trips, but that doesn't mean that we're not talking about our goal to help people as a family and thinking of things we can do to help those affected by Harvey or Irma. With the release of American Girl's newest BeForever doll, Nanea Mitchell, it gave us plenty of... Continue reading

Nothing is better than experiencing the world through the eyes of your children. In their short time on earth, my kids have developed a wanderlust that has encouraged my husband and I to seek out and explore as much of the world as we possibly can with them. Seeing them enjoy familiar sights that I loved in my childhood is wonderful, but I love when we get to experience something brand new together and be surprised by what will await us on our journey. Such was the case with the Sea to Sky Gondola that we scheduled during our recent Squamish, B.C. family trip. Being able to hop onto a gondola just above sea level and have it take you... Have a college student that is heading back to campus this year? If so, you're going to want to listen up because I think I found the best backpack ever for college living. Hey, even if you're not buying for college and instead just want a super cool daypack, light hiking pack, or commuter backpack, you're going to want to remember this bag. This beauty is the Solo Altitude Backpack from their Black Ops Collection. Made with lightweight and ultra-durable parachute nylon, the Solo Altitude is heavy duty... minus the heavy part. Don't you hate it when you get a bag you plan to load up with stuff only to find that it's already heavy and you haven't added a... Continue reading

Ready or not, it's back to school time again! I admit that I have mixed feelings about school starting every year and this year is no exception. On one hand, I love the structure school provides for our schedule, but on the other hand I always feel like another month or two of summer would always be good for my soul. I just have to remind myself that I only get 12 back to school seasons with my kids before they are done with mandatory schooling and I realize that these bittersweet moments are fleeting, too. I will eventually miss this transition to fall and sending my kids off to the world to meet new people who will also shape... Continue reading

We had the very best summer here. We went on vacations, saw a weekly movie, explored as a family, and I even snuck in a few adventures with just the kids and I while daddy-O was at work. We didn't have the same struggles we had last summer with taking all day to get out of the house, and we even found a new groove with our never-ending playdates so they didn't leave my house a disaster and everyone in bad moods. All in all, it was amazing. I'm sad it's coming to an end, but I'm also really excited to see what this next year holds for us. The kids are excelling in their new school roles and I... That's unacceptable, Laura. I hope they made it right in the end with you and with the school.
That's just awful, Joy! I've never worked with them before this year in a school capacity, but it seems as if they did an awesome job on their first year with us. I hope this year is a whole lot better for your school and they help make whatever issues happened previously right with you and the school.
