My first time really hearing about a solar eclipse was while reading A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court with my third grade class. The solar eclipse is a fairly big plot point in the story, so we spent a day or so going over what happens during a solar eclipse. My teacher had experienced the last time the Pacific Northwest had a total solar eclipse, back on Feb. 26, 1979. No one in the class other than him was alive during the eclipse and I remember we all had a ton of questions for him. Hearing him talk about seeing the sky darken like that seemed like a life changing experience. Ever since then, I've wanted to see one... Continue reading

It's now been three years of blueberry picking and pie contests with our fun-loving neighbors*, and to celebrate we headed off to Mountainview Blueberry Farm in Snohomish, WA. Our annual tradition usually just includes picking berries together and then making pies later to share, but this year they invited us over after picking to bake pies together, and it was absolutely wonderful. They started off as neighbors* and are now some of our greatest friends, so much so that we've had the "how are we related?" talk numerous times throughout the years because the kids have all just assumed they were cousins somehow. I love getting the kiddos together as many times as we can manage each year and I... Continue reading

Summer time cute with Hanna Andersson mermaid shirts, white Salt-Water Sandals, Minnie Mouse jean shorts from Kohl's {bought for our Disney World trip last year}, and light silver sweaters from H&M. This was clearly before the Seattle heatwave that has rendered sweaters unwearable. Or, as I like to call them "the good old days". Want to know how I found all the matching clothing for my girls? It's not as easy as you would think! This is why I created The Complete Guide to Matching Clothing for Baby, Kids, and Siblings. Have a photo shoot coming up and need matching or coordinating clothing? Start your search here, and be sure to pin for later! Continue reading

Debating whether you should vacation with your kids at Great Wolf Lodge? Maybe you are worried that your kids are too young or too old {they aren’t – trust me, there are activities for every age}. Or, maybe you're worried about the last 15 pounds you want to lose? Whatever it is that is holding you back, stop it. Just go. Book a room at GWL and go be with your family for some really awesome bonding time while exploring all that the lodge has to offer. Maybe your hang up is that you don't *love* waterparks, so you feel like there's no good reason to go out of your way to stay at a waterpark for days at a... Continue reading

This post has been sponsored by Pfizer Consumer Healthcare. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I have kids, which means it's a constant struggle to balance the sometimes not-so-clean activities of young kids without becoming the anti-bacterial gel wielding mom. This year has been especially bad and while I'm tempted to sanitize every surface they *might* touch, I also want my kids to be able to just be kids, too. I want to make sure they can see and play with their friends and not miss out on crucial lessons, and I definitely don’t want them missing out on summer fun due to illness. To combat illness, we implement these basic rules for keeping healthy: 1) Wash hands frequently,... Continue reading

Back in 2007 we bought our house from a local builder and got to make numerous choices, but the basic house design was fairly set and didn't allow for many changes. This means that our house has very little built-in "character". The good part about that is that we got to create our own "character" as the years went on, but the bad part is that it sometimes takes a decade to make my visions come to life. Some stuff was easy, like having the builder agree to do wainscotting throughout the main floor or adding a simple pressed tin backsplash instead of learning how to lay tile. But some things seemed easy and instead became a project... like my... Continue reading

Oh summer, how I love you! Seattle has been having the most beautiful summer and we're busy out exploring every day and especially on the weekends. In one of our trips up to Seattle Premium Outlets this month I hopped into the Hanna Andersson outlet and I found these gorgeous red dresses on the $10 clearance rack. They had three of these dresses in stock and two of them were my girls' sizes. So, basically I *had* to get them, right? They just scream summer to me, and my girls {and I} are crazy for them. Another perk of these dresses that I hadn't thought of? They are so distinctive so the girls get tons of attention when people actually... Continue reading

I hope you enjoy this sponsored post on behalf of Bush’s Beans. As always, all opinions are 100% my own. Having a large family living in close proximity is truly amazing. The kids have built-in best friends, I am never lacking for friends to hang out with or to help with kiddos, and when we all get together it's always a huge party. I wouldn't trade it for anything. But, the first time you cook for that family it can certainly be intimidating. I remember the first time I hosted Christmas in my mid-twenties and my sister casually asked what I was serving. Until that minute I had never even considered the work that went into feeding a family as... Continue reading

Want to know my absolute best advice for matching clothing for siblings? Here it is: Buy two outfits for the little one. Why, you ask? I found out the hard way that babies grow a heck of a lot faster than their older siblings do. Having to pack away the entire set of clothing when baby or toddler grows seemingly overnight is rough. So, after a few months of matching girls, I got smart and started buying a little big to start with and then a size or two up of the same outfit. That way baby would wear it when it was on the bigger side and until it no longer fit. And then would jump to the next... Continue reading

For the past few years, we've been mega fans of the Disney-Pixar Cars franchise. It started when my son saw the first movie when we was tiny and he was so smitten with things that go and the fact that the films gave backstories and personalities to humanize cars, trucks, and other vehicles. After seeing Disney-Pixar's Cars for the first time, he began to collect the Cars diecast cars with any money he was given. We now have hundreds {I wish that was an exaggeration} of those diecast Cars and toys, all cataloged and stored in special display cases in my son's room when they aren't being played with. But, they are constantly being played with so they don't sit... Continue reading

Having blond hair and blue eyes as a child meant that just about every doll looked kinda like me. I never had to search the toy shelves or special order a doll just to find one that I could relate to, and I never really realized how lucky that made me until I was out of the doll stage. My daughters {and son} haven't been so lucky. As it turns out, hazel eyes with light brown hair and brown eyes with strawberry blonde hair is super hard to find as most dolls come with blue eyes straight off the shelves. I realize some other girls aren't even that lucky and they have literally never seen a doll that looks like... Continue reading

Entenmann’s® Little Bites® provided us with information, coupons to redeem product, and a gift card so that we could try the new muffins and share our thoughts with our readers. As always, all thoughts and opinions are 100% our own and do not reflect the opinions of Entenmann’s® Little Bites®. Summer days are the best. We have little to no schedule, we spend most of our time outdoors, and friends to hang out with are always a few minutes away. This year has been the summer of playdates and it seems like I always have a few extra kids at my house running around and having fun with my kiddos. I love it. I love that my kiddos will have... Thank you! I am so grateful that they still love their babies - I will be so sad when they grow out of baby dolls :(

Sonya, that's so strange! Mine didn't have that problem but I agree a clasp would be preferred for me, too.
Happy Fourth to you!
Thank you, Sarah!
Thank you! We're in love with them!
It's so much fun, Melissa! We've had fun with ours for years

This was our first Matching Girls Fourth, ever. They also wore these same dresses last year even though they were a bit short, so I just added leggings. This year? I totally blew it on Fourth outfits, so they will just be rocking one of their normal matching girls outfits. I gotta admit it, I'm a little sad I forgot this year. They DO have matching bandanas, though. And a Declaration of Independence shirt they can wear. That totally counts, right? Continue reading

Fairy gardens are serious business at our house. Just ask our neighborhood kids whom my daughter has fully convinced that fairies live in our garden. We currently have a gorgeous backyard fairy garden that is out from spring to fall, which is where my daughter's love of fairies started. But this summer I wanted to make her another fairy garden for our covered front porch where we could put out special flower fairies from my youth. As you can see, she comes by this love of fairies naturally. When I was young, I fell in love with Cicely Mary Barker’s 1920s Flower Fairies™ artwork and stories and had a whole collection of flower fairies that adorned my household's plants. Some... Our vacations almost always include water, which isn't that surprising considering we're literally surrounded by water here in the Pacific Northwest. The one problem with spending so much time at the beach and lake is that there are certain things that just aren't water-friendly, like electronics and toys with small parts. Thank goodness that Corolle dolls, which are one of my kids absolute favorite toys, are water-ready and perfect for summertime fun. Since the kids can't go on vacation without bringing a baby, we love the soft bodied Bébé Bath Baby Dolls that can go in the water for playtime fun, and then go right into the bath with your kiddo when it's time to wash up. The kiddos were... Continue reading

I remember the glorious summer days of my youth spent pedaling around the neighborhood from morning until night. Days spent running from house to house and only stopping home to eat and grab swimsuits. I'm trying to give my kids a similar summer, and that means little or no scheduling is going on. Sports and activities are done for the season, and it's just the kiddos, some neighborhood friends, and an occasional library day on the horizon. It all makes me ridiculously happy. My hope is that they look back on these days and remember having no set schedule and no stress, with time to play in abundance. We don't really overschedule activities and sports as it is, but with... Continue reading

I received the DreamWorks Spirit Riding Free Friendship Activity Set from DreamWorks to facilitate this post. Some links may be affiliate links. As always, all opinions are 100% ours. My daughter is at the age where she loves getting lost in a book or a good series, and DreamWorks Spirit Riding Free was basically made for her. We don't do much screentime here, but we had been looking for a good show we could watch in the evenings as a treat. We're only a few episodes in, but we can already tell that the new Spirit Riding Free fits the bill perfectly. Even when we're not watching the show together, we've been enjoying some really fun Spirit Riding Free fun... Continue reading
