via youtube.com AKA Battle at F-stop Ridge, these guys wage war with all kinds of specialty militarized camera hardware. My choice of gear: a perfect full-auto sniper outfit, 10 fps with a Canon 1D IV & 500mm stabilized telephoto to take down the bad guys at long range.Cool Stuff http://coolstuff.rickbucich.com/battle-of-the-camera-geeks-video Continue reading

via vimeo.com Amazing what this guy can do with bubbles. Brings back fond memories of introducing bubbles to my son for the first time when he was two years old. Boy did he think they were the greatest thing ever. Nice to see you don't have to be a toddler to still have fun with them.Cool Stuff http://coolstuff.rickbucich.com/amazing-bubbles-over-stinson-beach-ca-via-can Continue reading

via vimeo.com Interesting video demonstrating the value not only of using a shutter release with a tripod, but also applying the mirror up function as well. Pretty strong evidence suggesting hand-holding your camera is a pretty flawed practice for razor sharp images.Cool Stuff http://coolstuff.rickbucich.com/why-you-need-a-camera-tripod-youre-not-as-ste Continue reading

via brickshelf.com German Malle Hawking built this scale model of the Harry S Truman aircraft carrier back in 2006 but I just came across the impressive feat. He hasn't forgotten any details with working elevators and lights. The ship measures aver 15 feet long and weighs approximately 350 pounds.Cool Stuff http://coolstuff.rickbucich.com/scale-aircraft-carrier-made-from-lego Continue reading

via amazon.com That's right, Amazon still has a Canon 1D mark II still in stock and for sale for $5999.95, that's 8% off the MSRP of $6,499.99! Better hurry, there's only one left in stock at the vendor Wall Street Photo. This state of the art camera was announced in 2004 and sure seems to have held its value well. I wonder if Canon will still honor the warranty? Given the fact that the latest version the Canon 1D mark IV which far surpasses the mark II runs $4,999.00 I think they might have some trouble unloading this copy. Maybe... Continue reading

BotSquare's Hand Gesture Detection from BotSquare on Vimeo. The above video provided by BotSquare, a start-up based in Palo Alto, CA, demonstrates their computer vision technology which enables users to control computers and mobile devices through simple finger flicks. They use regular webcams already built in most devices to detect finger level gestures similar to Kinect. Currently not yet in beta, looks interesting, trying to visualize how I would use it myself. via store.picycle.com You don't buy this electric bike if you want blend in. With a base price of just under $3000 and numerous upgrades, one could easily spend well over $5000 on a new PiCycle. But, it looks like a great commute alternative if you don't need to go long distances and want to do so with a geeky chic style. Continue reading

via flickr.com A company called Singer in Los Angeles is re-creating classic Porsche 911s that have been completely reworked and modernized. While I'm not one to turn my nose up and a new 911, if money were no object I'd probably opt for one of these beauties. Continue reading

via youtube.com This guy and his friends create a video to seduce a girl and it goes viral. I think to myself, wow what a tremendous effort to coordinate and not screw it up! Then I think about how awkward a break up would be with millions of people having watched the video. No matter what happened, every grandma, aunt, sister, cousin, niece, best friend, co-worker etc. would take his side and blame you for everything. Talk about a relationship insurance policy! via youtube.com Casey Heynes gets bullied, finally has had enough and fights back, getting himself suspended from school in the process. Boy I sure wouldn't want to be the bully and the losing end of this viral video. He should go hang out with Alexandra Wallace. There's a site petitioning the school to get him reinstated: http://eheroesunited.blogspot.com/ As far as I'm concerned, when he's older he be proud of that suspension. Expulsion would be another story. Continue reading

Guinness Chocolate Cheesecake for St. Patrick's Day This recipe for the Guinness chocolate cheesecake is a pretty basic chocolate cheesecake recipe with the addition of the Guinness but the similarities stop there. The addition of the Guinness changes the texture and properties of the cheesecake making it more souffle like. Normally you can tell when a cheesecake is done by shaking it a bit and if only the center wiggles it is done but the entire surface of this cheesecake will wiggle the whole time, even after 2 hours of baking. You pretty much just have to trust the recipe... Continue reading
