Back Scratching???
Does Ms. Deckman’s “The many special powers and privileges the government grants corporations, such as limited liability and perpetual lifespan, make limiting their political power essential” -- sound familiar?
Her disdain of "corporations" is asking for one corporation to constitutionally control another – those we elect after a single term are pensioned for life, enact social, healthcare even some civil law for the masses from which they are exempt. Egotistically many are interested only in perpetuating a career unavailable to the rest of us. ----- Government is the more dangerous of the “TWO” corporations in a free society Ms. Deckman!
Corporations in politics
Corporations are artificial creations of governments with no consciences, beliefs, feelings, thoughts or desires beyond maximizing shareholder profits. The many special powers and privileges the government grants corporations, such as limited liability and perpetual lifespan, make limiting their...
Re: Women’s health rights
“Backwoods Brownback” should be the first anti-abortion MALE politician Science succeeds in implanting an unwanted fetus –- wouldn’t take long for all his “keepum” barefoot and pregnant Macho Male big mouth friends from jumping ship or “Noah’s Ark.”
All those $$$$$ he saves Kansans now by closing Planned Parenthood and health services will be needed after he’s gone to put the new “Anchor baby citizens” though College that he forced Illegal mothers to birth!
God bless Kansas
Kansas is a great state. Gov. Sam Brownback is doing a good job of cutting our waste and making good progress in balancing our budget. Our schools are strong. Our residents are optimistic that we are headed toward a strong and fiscally sound state. Lorita Crane Shawnee

Women’s health rights
Those who want to protect the unborn, including people who implore Gov. Sam Brownback to continue his efforts, the best protection we have for the rights of the unborn is twofold: First, government must not be allowed to have a say in a mother’s decision. If we allow government to tell us when ...
The Sex / Link lead-in to the Shirley Lewis commentary has to be a misnomer.

From campaign rhetoric Santorum would likely be the product of an immaculate conception free of sin or physical need other than his God given egotistical obsession to rule the World ---- His coronation at a brokered Grand old “PARISH” convention could only signal the demise of a ONCE proud conservative political party. – Santorum represents a theocracy incompatible with less government or the individual rights indicative of TRUE conservatism.
Already shackled by last supper republicans hoping to replace a catastrophic Obama administration they are at WAR within a Party where religious “Nutcases” will not accept one of their own as a prime candidate because that person, Mitt Romney is a Mormon!
Santorum’s God before government promises cannot appeal to moderates of ANY political affiliation or persuasion in a Secular Society.
Santorum is a Born again LOSER ---- We are in need of a THIRD PARTY!!
Sex and Rick Santorum
If I can believe what I’m hearing, Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum believes the only reason to have sex is for procreation. When his wife is past child-bearing age, does he swear off sex for the rest of his life? Does he divorce his wife because she no longer has a viable egg and...
Jessica Deamer ---“Women’s contraceptive coverage is an issue that should concern neither men nor religion."
I agree Ms. Deamer and once medical science allows those Bishops with those fancy Dunce caps to assume the pregnancies of soon to be unwanted and unloved children they’ll retreat to the Pulpit and their macho male lemmings to the Church loft singing in the choir --- A Secular Government that once provided the Pious protection from the STATE is now in need of protection FROM the Pious!
Nobody’s business
Women’s contraceptive coverage is an issue that should concern neither men nor religion. If church leaders wish to involve themselves in politics then they should relinquish their tax exemption and stop the pretense. But how dare any celibate, unmarried, male priest or bishop tell me whether or ...
For Ms. McDowell ----------------- a repost
“Poor me Poor Us” --- Lewis Diuguid along with counterpart Mary Sanchez do best what the Liberal Media does best -- to excuse more government aide and assistance deserved or undeserved to minorities by embarrassing or instilling guilt to past abuse by the majority. – Both columnists seem to have achieved relative success in a chosen profession within what they depict as a “hostile” society but somehow continuously demean the system that has allowed their success. -- What can be disconcerting is although racial discord still exists in America their knowledge and capabilities could be far more appreciated if directed to the source, the culture or well-being of those they so often defend or seek to improve in this Country.
Diuguid chronicling the plight of African Americans could “migrate” and address the overwhelming education and health problems rampant IN AFRICA and Sanchez’s teachings and concerns for Latino respect and democratic principles could contribute her experience and editorial skills to some Weekly Rag in a gun wielding, hostage killing country south of the border!
Diuguid column
Thanks to Lewis Diuguid for courageously pointing out our country’s bleak future if we don’t solve continuing race inequities. We have lost sight of how to tackle the problem, and the “diversity” movement of the last few decades has not helped. So what if you grew up on a farm, but I grew up in ...

What can be disconcerting is although such discord still exists in America their knowledge and capabilities could be far more appreciated if directed to the source, the culture or lives of those they so righteously defend or seek to improve in this Country -- Diuguid often chronicling the plight of African Americans could migrate and address the education and health problems “in” Africa and Sanchez’s teachings and concerns for Latino respect and democratic principles could possibly garner her a professorship in Mexico City. ---------- But then???

Church, state separation
The controversy about insurance coverage for contraceptives spotlights the dangers of religion encroaching on government policy. If one’s religious conscience tells a person not to use contraceptives, don’t use them. In our country, government has no business forcing anyone to use contraceptives...
Micheline Burger --- MainStream Coalition
Theocrats can only guarantee a healthy afterlife Ms. Burger -- Your wish to stop gender-based health care discrimination by religious leaders will fall on deaf ears --This and similar issues again have tainted our political process and threaten the cohesiveness we depend on in times of stress. We are edging closer to the third world theocratic nonsense that endangers not only those who practice it but any who value personal freedom!
The latest contraceptive “flap” is an exercise in Irony ---- Tax-Free churches and religious conglomerates claim a violation of separation of church and state when asked to adhere to the same insurance and contraceptive benefits offered by private employers in a supposedly “secular nation” then demand the Taxes of their faithful followers be exempt from any government funding of Planned Parenthood a “public” non-profit health and reproductive service because it provides abortion. --- Yet while they exist and accept the “blessings” of a free society their Zealots exhibit no hesitation or remorse in abandoning the care and financial burden of unwanted and uncared for infants to neighbors or compatriots that do not share a religious dogma that allows forced birthing!

Margaret Hogan ----------------------
The faithful have been murdering one another in the name of their particular deity or fantasies from the beginning of time. – With guarantees of an afterlife the “Church hierarchy” forcing their women to bear children unwanted or not is just a method of replacing their “soldiers” to preserve a dominance over what now has become both the political and daily lives of their subjects or lemmings.
Regrettably Ms. Hogan, your rights or pleas as an individual or a woman mean nothing to the religious or political power brokers seeking to replace a constitutional government with Theocratic Dogma!
Contraceptive controversy
Those who think the Obama administration should show more respect for the Catholic Church must realize there has been disrespect on both sides (2-11, A1, “Fighting a fire-storm”). These transgressions are not equal. Unlike an institution, a woman has a heart, nerves, and a brain that can feel pa...
Cherryl Mitchel --- Congratulations on freeing yourself from the constraints of a male dominated “fundamentalist clergy” unable to reproduce who by keeping their women Barefoot and Pregnant will ensure that the dominance and their future will continue.
Be patient Ms. Mitchel, great advances in the scientific community may someday provide women an escape from being subjugated second-class citizens. --- Once the anti-contraception anti-abortion males are afforded the medical means to assume the pregnancy of a woman’s unwanted child the “Hairy Legs” in both the pulpit and politics will disappear!
Women’s lost control
David Brooks, Kathleen Parker and The Star editorial board have chosen not to point out that women are largely responsible for birth control, and men are largely in control of birth control policies. This is especially true of the Catholic Church. It is naive to believe that most sexual acts ar...
?? So you believe “The U.S. should stop all military and economic aid to Israel so we are not a supporter of that country’s attacks on Iran” Mr. Whiteside??
===========================
Americans waiting to be attacked before responding to another fiasco will be surprised --- IRAN will not attack the U.S. but it damn sure will provide the means and sophistication to improve on the 911 tragedy without commandeering a fleet of Airliners --- Advanced devices, a few SUV’s and a couple of suitcases will make more than New York and the Pentagon a target!
The problem is supplying Israel with the capability to deal with the new mid-east “Religious Brotherhood” and hope Iran’s Mullahs are unable to supply enough “Virgins” for their suicide bombers.
Problem with Israel
Israel is about to drag the U.S. into a war with Iran. The U.S. should stop all military and economic aid to Israel so we are not a supporter of that country’s attacks on Iran. U.S. military aid to Israel amounts to billions of dollars a year. Israel will not try for peace as long as the U.S. m...
Nothing “ODD” about Yael “Abracadabra” criticizing Gov. Jan Brewer’s perceived disagreement with Obama on the Arizona tarmac – He hasn’t been too interesting since he helped convince voters to run the former Mayor out of town with his unusual interest in reporting the personal habits or activities of Funkhouser’s wife ---- Often more alluring than his political advice or analysis maybe the Brewer thing signals Yael’s return to gossip rather than political commentary?
Abouhalkah blog bit
I noticed that Yael Abouhalkah characterized Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer as “somewhat odd” in his Jan. 27 blog bit. What, pray tell, is the reader to conclude in the definition of “somewhat odd?” Does this apply to her manner of governance, how she dresses or her choice of friends? Would any of the...

CAPT Matt Gratton Medical Corps USN (ret) --- does the addendum “forced warfare qualified” imply you served and judged Marines as a combat medic or did you just patch them up in a semi sterile aide station? Few are ---complaining --- of the marines in the Afghan urination incident, just the idiots that seek and continue to profit socially or politically from it Gratton. --- Stick with the Professional skills that allowed serving your country and if recalled leave your cell phone at home!
Moral compass lost

Religion and the Theory of Relativity ----------Choice; Brattin or Einstein
Intelligent design is an oxymoron for the gullible – The only relationship religion and science share is curiosity and the pursuit or satisfaction in solving the complexities of life. – Mo. Rep. Rick Brattin invents a religious fulfillment that is irrefutable and Albert Einstein finds what is believed an acceptable answer but can still remain open to question or intellect!
Intelligent design crossing state line
I read with interest the Jan. 15 article, “Science debate emerging,” concerning Rep. Rick Brattin’s alarming idea that we should teach intelligent design alongside evolution in Missouri. Is this constant reinforcement really needed? Real faith is found, not taught. Intelligent design is, in fact...
Bo Steed – a similar opinion published a day or so ago related and attracted criticism from many who have never and will never serve ------ Ben Nicks closing query to those critics appropriately was “What outfit were you in?”
===============================
Content to exist in a media vacuum where moral and political fantasy abound few if ANY of Mr. Nicks detractors claimed combat experience to reinforce or validate the expertise or credentials needed to judge the troops involved in the Afghan urination fiasco.
For those so willing to denigrate or condemn before the responsibility or actual source of the incident is fully disclosed their criticism serves only the enemy!
Inhumanity of war
If you posit war and the main objective is to kill the other guys until they do what you want, how can there be any rules to govern your actions? War is to kill. There are no modifiers to this goal. If you take a 20-year-old American, most likely an immature man and probably a Christian and tra...
The Civilian Purist so outraged and willing to condemn Marines pictured urinating on what are assumed to be the bodies of Taliban terrorist need only to RE-read Ben Nicks closing words ------------ “What outfit were you in?”
Horrors of war real
Let all of those raising the tumult and the shouting against those Marines who urinated on the bodies of the Taliban they had just killed in perilous combat tell us what outfit they were in. None of them ever heard a shot fired in anger or intended to. War is hell and has a devastating effect ...

‘Occupy’ opportunity
I have been watching the “Occupy” movement with great interest. This country was founded on freedom of expression, and they certainly have the right to do so. My wife and I are probably in the group they seem to dislike. My message to them is that we both came from families of no wealth. Peopl...
Mr. Foster – believing God has been replaced by the almighty dollar and in our “drug- and-alcohol crazed” perverted country if an imaginary son were to be drafted you would send him somewhere safe why would you NOT accompany him or better still leave before that son becomes fact.
However if lack of supreme guidance appears to be the cause or culprit for our decline you might give a republican Theocracy candidate, “disband the military” Ron Paul or “Pope” Rick Santorum a chance to eliminate conscription THEN pray for peace before deciding to migrate?
Until then the U.S. is still fielding an all volunteer military that ensures you and your daydream offspring the opportunity to escape both reality and the draft within the confines of Knob Knoster Mo!
America on precipice
America has lost its moral compass, and as a result has become an evil country. It’s vulgar, violent, vicious, cruel, money hungry, materialist, sex-, drug- and-alcohol crazed, perverted, celebrity-, sports- and gambling-addicted, immoral, obese, and tolerant of abortion and homosexuality. Ther...
Ms. Duncan if you’ve enjoyed watching Republican Politicians “crash and burn” during the recent debates, for you the last mid-term election or Democratic collapse must have been pure ecstasy --- Be patient Democrats may again afford you another memory to cherish in November 2012.
GOP demolition
Watching the Republican candidate debates is like watching a demolition derby. It’s fun to watch when you know that two or three of the participants are going to crash and burn. It happens every time. Nancy Duncan Lee’s Summit
Sister Marie Combo – Assuming the “father” was deported to Mexico in the Acedo problem there’s nothing out of the ordinary from “open the border “Sanchez asking support from the public OR the TAXPAYER without full disclosure of past or present assistance this particular family has already received?
Sanchez’s Scenario – “Zenia Acedo’s plight is familiar by now. She’s the 19-year-old whose mother died of cancer after giving birth prematurely to Zenia’s sister in early November. Authorities placed the infant in foster care temporarily as Zenia organizes how she is going to raise her new sister and care for four younger brothers. The family’s father has been deported.”
Assisting a Family is one thing, lifetime adoption another!
Sister Marie as a representative of the church you exist by the charity of others. Be even more involved in this family’s plight, baby sit for that new born sacrificing and sharing time will bring you closer to those (and real life) you now serve. ------ Leave the political meandering and begging to the Star’s socialist Sanchez!
Sanchez column
Whose heart could be so hardened as to be untouched by Mary Sanchez’s Dec. 22 column, “Teen is left to fend for family,” of 19-year-old Zenia Acedo? Zenia’s mother died of cancer in late November, a few weeks after giving birth to a premature girl. I hope the wise, experienced people Sanchez m...
Mr. Joseph H. Ford
McClanahan’s the Star’s token “tell it like it is” conservative and with “open the borders” Sanchez, “poor me poor us” Diuguid and left wing “Bloomer Brigade” Barb Shelly we are fortunate he still enjoys a voice on our Liberal Rag --- I believe any appreciation or agreement of his views will fail to endear him to a “News”- paper that continues to meddle and shape rather than report the social and political future of Kansas City.
=======================
As a purely political evaluation ignoring the oft mentioned personal baggage attributed to Newt Gingrich he would reduce Schoolboy Obama to a valedictorian presiding over a high school graduation ceremony and the present administrations past three years to a festive rerun of 1969’s Woodstock revelers!
McClanahan column
Whatever the opposite of “required reading” is, it applies to the writings of E. Thomas McClanahan (12-18, Opinion, “Denigrating what he should encourage”). McClanahan writes: “So President Obama will rest his re-election hopes on class warfare ... no other conclusion is possible.” That’s like s...
So you picture those Palestinians who indiscriminately kill women and children by “lobbing” rockets into Israel as the victims of Israeli “Playground Bullies” worthy of your concern and compassion Ms. DiMiceli?
It was reported in 1981 an Israelis air strike destroyed a French-built nuclear plant near Iraq's capital, Baghdad – DiMiceli, you had better hope they will be able to accommodate us (and the free world) with a similar response as Iran nears the production of a nuclear weapon.
Whether your “Ostrich” opinion devoid of logic springs from a head in the sand (or elsewhere) you’ll be toast before those Mullah’s let you pull out a “Prayer Rug” to become the Muslim Brotherhoods new Ambassador!
Middle East bully
Remember the playground bully, always picking the smaller and weaker kids? This is what I picture when reading about radical Israeli settlers who insist it’s their right to steal land from the Palestinians and build more homes. This issue is in the news. Despite Israel’s pledge to stop building ...
John James, Barb Shelly on Christ the “Occupier’s” and GOP --- both wrong??
Hey Rev. --- we get a lot of “Garbage” from the Star’s Liberal Bloomer brigade C.E.O. Barbra Shelly all the time but you may have a problem debating her on this one --- As biased as Shelly and her editorial “fellow travellers” bore us silly with their political trash it’ll be hard to counter the 12/3 faith section of the Star’s report that “More than 1400 faith leaders have pledged solidarity with the (occupy) movement”----- A rather large photo of a church in San Francisco doling out Turkey Dinners accompanied and emphasized the argument.
-------------------------------------
Better check what the congregation is doing after “Sunday go to Meeting “ Reverend before getting too involved POLITICALLY --- you could forfeit a Tax exemption?
Shelly column
In her Dec. 9 column, “Sorry GOP, Jesus would stand with the ‘occupiers’,” Barb Shelly insists on lumping our Lord Christ with park campouts, disturbances, riots, car burnings, windows broken, and horrible hateful signs. This results from admitted non-theologians trying to link the sinless Son o...
