Leah Jorgensen Wines of Oregon Thur, May 24 @ 7 PM $139 It was almost 20 years ago that I first visited Oregon. Back then, it was a land of great oenological promise, but truly stunning wines were few. Twenty years later some of that promise has come true, and we're learning more with each passing year. For example, Leah Jorgensen has taught us that Pinot Noir isn't the only game in town for extraordinary Oregon reds. In her capable hands, Oregon Cabernet Franc sings! Don't miss the opportunity to have these wines with Dinner They are stunning (and incredible... Continue reading

Antiquum Farm Wine Dinner An Extraordinary Oregon Property: A Family Making Exceptional Wines Friday, November 3 (A Ridiculous Bargain $99!) The Hagan family at Antiquum do things a little differently...well, a LOT differently. I posted the pictures above to give you a small glimpse into just how they run their farm (and their lives). Here we have compelling wines, completely in line with the compelling story of the family that makes them.... Continue reading

Hello My Friends, It was just one of those lucky things. I happened to be in Madrid, and I was invited to tag along to dinner at the estate of The Marqués de Griñón, Carlos Falco. It was a heady day that started with churros in the Plaza del Sol, and went on to include one of the best rejoneo bullfights I've ever seen, dinner with the Marqués, Cuban cigars and very old Spanish brandy. The highlight of the day was when Don Carlos introduced Jacqui Naylor, whom he had engaged to sing for us after dinner. She broke my... Continue reading

Macallan Tasting & Virtual Tour Thursday, September 28 Can't get to Scotland in person? We've got the next best thing. We will provide everything you need to turn your phone into VR Goggles. It was 1986 and I had been tending bar at The Frog and The Peach for about a week, when my manager TJ Foderaro taught a few of us about this newly popular thing called 'Single-Malt Scotch.' It was a hands-on training. The bottle did not survive. Bottle empty! We're still good friends: TJ and me AND The Macallan. At that time there were only THREE single... Continue reading

A Dew and Brew ...and A Brew ...with Your Bro Sunday, August 6 Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey is a classic and we made some great fancy cocktails with it. But Irish whiskey is also basic. Maybe 'fundamental' is a better word. A shot and a beer is nothing to look down one's nose at, especially if the shot is a great quality and so is the beer. The fine folks at Tullamore are pointing that out, with their Dew and A Brew campaign. We love the idea, and we're taking it a step further...because that's what we do. Dew and... Continue reading

Big Night: Dinner and a Movie Thursday, August 24 - 6:30 Our favorite food film of all time, Big Night, came out in 1996. A cult classic, it's a hysterical account of the sometimes heated relationship of two brothers who open a very authentic Italian restaurant in not-so-worldly New Jersey of the 1950's. Tony Shaloub, Stanley Tucci, Minnie Driver, Isabella Rossellini, Liev Schriber, Marc Anthony, Allison Janney The music, the dialogue, the cinematography, are just perfect. At the center of it all, is the food: A huge feast and all the love and care and drama that goes into it.... Continue reading
