I've read the statute referred to by the Senator. I don't believe it applies to the NCAA's crooked actions in this case, but I'm far from an expert on the subject and hope I'm wrong. I'd love nothing more than the FL Attorney General to rattle the NCAA's cage.
Update on Florida Senator Joseph Abruzzo's quest for Attorney General to initiate investigation of NCAA
I just spoke with Florida Senator Joseph Abruzzo, who asked Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to launch an investigation "into the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) actions during its probe of the University of Miami's athletic program, per a letter dated Feb. 20. Abruzzo ...
@Chris: Hey, don't get your panties in a bunch Dorothy. I know you're upset but take a deep breath and relax. Oh, really original with the scum thing. Clever, er, or something.
New OC Coley flips '14 star RB Yearby from FSU to UM
Joseph Yearby, a 5-9, 190-pound All-State running back from state champion Miami Central, switched his non-binding oral commitment from Florida State to the University of Miami Miami on Tuesday, adding his name to what is becoming a stellar 2014 recruiting class for the Hurricanes. Yearby, a Sem...
Does anyone remember the VT game? Remember when UM rarely had a guy keyed in on Logan Thomas? UM was utterly befuddled by the idea that Logan Thomas, a running QB, might actually run the ball from time to time. Either our DC is completely incompetent or our players are really, really bad. Look, if D'Onofrio doesn't show some significant improvement then he's got to go.
D'Onofrio responds to critics, tries to fix defense; Fins, Heat, Marlins chatter
SUNDAY BUZZ COLUMN When UM defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio was asked at a Canes recruiting party what he plans to do differently next season, he had four words. “Get after the quarterback!” Applause naturally followed. There will be even more applause if, well, it actually happens. UM spri...
Okay, hosting UF should be awesome. I already have my Muschamp voodoo doll ready to go. Hosting GT will be interesting, especially with GT losing so much on O. VT will be much better this year. Here's the kicker, UVA. UVA has beat UM 3 years in a row. They're a divisional rival. They have been the bane of UM's existence for years (OB disaster). You would think fans would pack the house in November to see some payback. We'll see.
ACC releases 2013 football schedule for Miami Hurricanes and all league teams
Finally. The Atlantic Coast Conference schedule is out. The Hurricanes will face FSU in Tallahassee on Saturday, Nov. 2. The Canes open and close the season on a Friday! They open at Sun Life against FAU. They close at new ACC Coastal member Pittsburgh the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 29. The Pi...
What the fudge is going on? UM host FAU and 1AA Savannah St.? Yippee! I get hosting one but both? Does the admin expect fans to show up for BOTH of these when they won't even show up for K.St., NCSt. and UVA? Whoever agreed to this schedule should be fired. The Big Ten is seriously considering only playing 1A teams. They have the right idea. Scheduling both FAU and Savannah St. is a ripoff for the fan and does nothing but make UM football BORING when UM is trying to break out and get back into the national spotlight.

Is it possible that UF lost at home to Duke, GA Southern, and got swept by Fl.Gulf Coast in baseball? Really? I told you Gators that from '09-'12 you were having your moment in the sun so you'd better win that title. For UF baseball, that moment in the sun is obviously way, way over with no title to show for it. As these things come in cycles, there's always the 2020's.
Gators CB Purifoy facing marijuana charge; Florida F Yeguete out for rest of hoops season
Another Gators football player is in trouble with the law, as Florida cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy was cited early Sunday morning on a charge of possession of marijuana, according to Alachua County Court records. Purifoy is the 13th player arrested since Will Muschamp took over the Florida progr...
If Shapiro said the same thing twice the NCAA considered such statement to be corroborated.
Memo to Emmert: A self-corroborating statement is a contradiction in terms. A declarant cannot corroborate his own statement. His statement is corroborated by an external statement, documentation, etc. To use a "self-corroborating" statement is either a sign of complete incompetence or outright malice.
If you haven't seen yet: NCAA releases statement supporting president Mark Emmert
For those who didn't see this in the paper today, here it is. The NCAA has put its full support behind president Mark Emmert: Below is a statement by Lou Anna K. Simon, executive committee chair and Michigan State University president on the NCAA regulatory pathway and Mark Emmert’s leadership: ...
@Calvin: with "friends" like you UM doesn't need enemies.
Shalala releases statement on NOA
STATEMENT FROM UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI PRESIDENT DONNA E. SHALALA ON NCAA NOTICE OF ALLEGATIONS “The University of Miami deeply regrets and takes full responsibility for those NCAA violations that are based on fact and are corroborated by multiple individuals and/or documentation. We have already ...
Dang, Donna's come out swinging. You've got to wonder what the administration and their attorneys will do about this.
Shalala releases statement on NCAA, wants quick resolution
University of Miami President Donna E. Shalala made this statement concerning the external Enforcement Review Report the NCAA issued earlier today regarding the improper handling of its investigation of the University of Miami. "The University takes full responsibility for the conduct of its emp...
@playthefreshman: What have QB's Dewey and Crow done? Nothing. They're freshman so they rode the bench behind Morris, the junior. What did Williams do? Nothing. Morris beat him out. What's your problem? Do you think true freshmen would beat out a junior? You must be new to college football. Why don't you go back to your sewing circle and leave football to us men folk.
Canes land commitment from hungry, versatile, athletic 2014 Hialeah QB Alin Edouard
Just when you thought the recruiting news had reached an end point down in Coral Gables, here is some more for you: Al Golden and his coaching staff have landed a commitment from another quarterback of the future -- 2014 Hialeah High standout Alin Edouard. The 6-2 3/4-inch, 185-pound signal call...
This kid is really something. He reminds me of Tyrod Taylor. So, I'm guessing Olsen will be redshirted and will battle in 2014 and Alin will redshirt and battle in 2015. If this is the case then our pipeline of QB's has gotten unbelievably solid.

@jls14234: Don't get your panties in a bunch Dorothy. You've become quite the grump over the past 12 months. I'm just saying I'm tired about reading of all the arrests at UF. They should stop publishing the stories and move on. Let's just take it as a given that a UF player will get arrested about once every 1.5 months and just write about something else, like the good recruiting class of 2013. I'm on your side man!

Golden discusses 2013 signing class Canes "really had to fight for"
UM coach Al Golden discussed the 2013 signing class and other topics Wednesday evening. Among the first questions asked was if the Canes were done. Golden's response: "I can't really comment on a specific story percolating. But we may have room for one more but that's about it." Asked about repo...
More NCAA self investigation. Remember when the outside law firm investigating the NCAA would give a report within 2 weeks? Well, the end of this week is 2 weeks. Why do I have a feeling this internal investigation will take a month or 2, not weeks. Anyway, check out the latest below:

Brooks hasn't made announcement; coach says it's going to be Miami or Baylor
By all accounts, Terrell Brooks has eaten lunch by now. It's his college decision he hasn't been able to digest yet. ESPN reported Monday night the 6-4, 300-pound defensive tackle from Navarro JC in Corsicana, Tex. would make an announcement on his college choice around lunchtime Tuesday. But lu...
UM baseball is in such disrepair that this season might be painful. I'll watch as much as I can but with one eye closed. Sorry but if Morris doesn't have a strong season then he needs to be replaced.
News and notes from the start of Canes spring baseball practice
Al Golden didn't get a chance to see David Thompson rifle passes to receivers this fall, but Jim Morris will get to see him use his bat this spring. The talented freshman, who set a state record for career home runs and wiped Alex Rodriguez's name from the top of the record books at Miami Westmi...
I wish the Seminoles would win the NC and be done with it. Why do they keep toying with the college football world?
Sources: FSU's Coley weighing whether or not to take Canes' vacant offensive coordinator job
Florida State offensive coordinator James Coley could be on the verge of turning in the garnet and gold for green and orange. Multiple sources close to Coley told The Miami Herald Wednesday afternoon the 39-year old Miami High and FSU graduate has been in discussions with University of Miami c...
Bowl bans? Credit time served. Penalties coming down should be a fine, mandatory implementation of compliance mechanisms (already done), and scholly losses. The scholly losses should be manageable and AG has been preparing for this for 2 years now with the distribution of scholarships given last year and this year. We all know that the thing killing this program for 2 years is the UNCERTAINTY. Remove this variable and UM should bounce back strong.
NCAA Bylaw Blog writer John Infante talks positives, negatives for UM with latest developments
With reports surfacing that former basketball coach Frank Haith and football recruiting coordinators Clint Hurtt and Aubrey Hill are expected to be charged with unethical conduct in the NCAA's investigation into wrongdoing done at the University of Miami, I sought the expertise of NCAA Bylaw Blo...
Does he have so little game day pull that he would leave FSU? Interesting discussion but I just see it happening.
Is FSU offensive coordinator James Coley a candidate for Jedd Fisch's old job at UM?
The rumors are spreading: Florida State offensive coordinator James Coley could be Miami's next offensive coordinator. Settle down Canes fans. This Coley story is just rumor-driven for now. Nothing we've heard out of UM today or even FSU suggests Coley is in the running. We're not even sure he'...
Some of you people are pieces of work. Morris is the starter next year. Olsen will not start and may even be redshirted. He'll have time to learn and get better. This isn't that hard to figure out.
Kevin Olsen's father says the four-star quarterback is "absolutely'' not wavering on his commitment to Miami Hurricanes
I just spoke to the father of Miami Hurricanes four-star quarterback recruit Kevin Olsen, who is in Coral Gables this weekend with his parents for his official recruiting trip. Chris Olsen, who just retired as the Wayne Hills (N.J.) High School football coach after a storied 26-season career, sa...
When the NFL comes knocking with big opportunities and big $$$ then I can't blame Jedd or any coach. The Jags saw that Jedd produced enough at UM and has confidence in him which means AG made a decent hire. The trick is to thoughtfully and properly replace him. There will be plenty of solid candidates out there, don't worry.
Al Golden and Jedd Fisch statements regarding Jedd leaving the Miami Hurricanes
Jedd Fisch statement: “I want to thank President [Donna] Shalala, Athletic Director Blake James, Coach [Al] Golden, the coaching staff and all of the incredible student-athletes that I have come in contact with since joining the program [in] January 2011. There are 32 NFL Offensive Coordinator ...
Does anyone know anything about Danny Dillard? I know he's going to be in the backfield but just wondering what type of back he'll be and what are his strengths and weaknesses.
Alex Collins wants to see if he can envision himself as a Hurricane on his official visit
Alex Collins has been down to the University of Miami at least a handful of times since the Hurricanes became the first major FBS program to offer him a scholarship last year when he was a junior. But those unofficial visits down to Coral Gables, Collins explained Wednesday, were usually just tr...
Collins and Duke would be a devastating one-two punch. Come on to UM Alex!
